In this video, we explore the car, the features, the things to look out for and consider, and most importantly the way the car drives.

    Gearboxes: The 7-speed automatic transmission was by far the most popular choice for this generation and the chances are that unless you are looking for a manual, your next A-Class will have two pedals in the footwell. The manual shifter is pleasant to hold with a short throw between the ratios; the gears are positioned quite close to each other but you will get used to it. Reverse is selected by lifting the shifter and moving next to second. The biting point is about halfway along the clutch pedal's travel.
    The 1.5 litre diesel engine: Yes, the OM607 engine shares the block and internals of the Renault K9K engine but features Mercedes-Benz specific ancillaries like the start/stop system, alternator, ECU, dual-mass flywheel and engine mounts for use in the Mercedes-Benz passenger car and van range. The engine itself is virtually bomb-proof but just make sure to get the timing belt changed every 10 years or 124,000 miles. Early A 180 CDI models are free to tax in the UK and inexpensive after 2017. Yes, it's not the most powerful engine and yes it is a shared engine but engine sharing is commonplace in this industry and it can make for one seriously economical choice.

    Great video. Came across it after getting a 2016 model and looking to find more info. This video also highlighted something important on out 113k mile car - timing belt needs doing at 124k miles.
    Funny thing is, I noticed the L&L on your jacket, and then saw name of your channel - I was planning to bring my car to MB Hertford for advise about servicing, as I live nearby. I'll see you soon.

    OK so I watched this to see if there are any issues I could expect with my late 2019 A180 which I've had for about 2 years. Your video was informative enough to give prospective buyers an idea of what to expect and the choice of models available, but nowhere did you mention anything about reliability or potential known problems with the exception of a misting up rear light cluster (if I remember correctly). Having said that, maybe it's so reliable that there are no problems with the A class, or perhaps it's not been around long enough for specific issues to become apparent. I love my merc and will likely keep it longer than most cars I've had in the past.

      The 1.5 litre diesel is the only engine with a timing belt which needs to be changed every 10 years or 124,000 miles. The hardware and components can take a lot of punishment but after asking the technicians what tends to go wrong on this generation A-Class the general consensus was "not a lot." If anything, the things to look out for are the USB ports which can loosen after a while if in constant use for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Genuinely, it's a rather reliable machine.

    Can you do a review of the new generation merc A series ? I am worrying the duel screen over the dash will have sun glare problem. And looks to digital IMO

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've spent a lot of time behind the wheel of the new generation models and glare isn't something I've found to be an issue. The displays don't wash out on bright days either - if anything, some of the trim seems to be more reflective than the displays. We've done a few videos on the new A-Class and the compact family, have a watch here: th-cam.com/video/QaDtdYwolE4/w-d-xo.html

    Do MB sell a petrol automatic (torque converter) WITHOUT A turbo ?

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not any more - the last road-going naturally aspirated models would have been the SLS AMG and the SLK 350/55 AMG of the R172 generation which bowed out in 2016.
      Technically, you can still get a naturally aspirated model if you get the AMG GT3 racing car, which still uses the 6.2 litre V8 from the SLS, but that uses a 6-speed sequential gearbox rather than a torque converter...oh how I'd love to see one of them being made road legal.

    Nice POV. Does this generation have full leather seat or any option give that?

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It was available as an option called the Exclusive Package which added a full leather interior. It was relatively common on the AMG A 45s but I've never seen it on an AMG Line model! It could be an option that is well worth hunting for.

      I've just got a 2016 A180d AMG line for my son, and it came with full leather. In fact that was one of the main things that made him want this so bad.

      @@joynul thanks for the reply. The merc has actually off from my shortlist. Just realised it doesn’t have stick shifter in the middle. Because we have another Japanese car, this willbe very inconvenient to us.

    Some are disguised overpriced Renaults. And all of them are so badly put together it's insane mercedes has the audacity to charge that much. Overall, shoddy products where the owner most of the time ends up being somewhat of a beta tester. Unless you're that type of person than only cares about looks, how others perceive you and everything else is secondary to the symbol, stay away from these. The newer model is even worse. Total cashgrab.

    I beg to differ the 1.5 diesel is a Renault, Nissan engine and the timing belt is 60, 000 or 5 years be warned, nothing has been changed to make it 10 years for sure again be warned

    This was never going to be an unbiased review from
    a Mercedes dealer. Just listen to guy try to be a Matt Watson. He pretends to convey faults in a covert manner but always defaults to a final positive comment. If the car was woefully poor, this guy would still convey its brilliant.

    Useless review, nothing about what to watch for wear and tear, weak points, rust issues, brakes, shocks, engine etc.
