Why didn't y'all file a lawsuit against those security guards at the cemetery what they did was ILLEGAL
Other than the guards not liking their appearance, Friday and her husband gave no indication that they were up to no good. They were discriminated against, and that shouldn't be tolerated.
Is going through a lawsuit not a bit too much? Yeah what they experienced might have been illegal but filing a lawsuit requires a lot of money, time and mental strain with little to be gained. This is an experience they can just put behind them and maybe even laugh at. Its not worth the fight.
You're absolutely right PLUS managing and pursuing a lawsuit to France from Germany is guaranteed to be a huge headache =\
A legal right is worth exactly zero if you can't enforce it. Of course they could have called the police, but cops and security guys typically sleep under the same blanket. And attorneys are expensive and sometimes don't do their job properly.
Doing what you did is the best thing.. now the whole World knows and we're going to share it with our friends... it was by chance that I stumbled upon this and I don't believe in "coincidence' so I'm happy to share it.......... may the fleas of a thousand camels bite those security guards in the arse and may their arms be too short to scratch!!! :D lol

Correct me if i'm wrong but honestly, i feel like in France there's ZERO culture of learning languages. I've worked in several restaurants and petrol stations with high affluence of foreigners and i have yet to meet a french person who speaks anything other than... french.
It's more common than you think actually :) I'm French too and I feel like there is a secret community of us speaking English haha. Especially among 20-ish people! English classes are terrible so most teens don't really know how to speak it, adults and old people have never learnt or their classes were bad too, but it seems that for my generation, thanks to internet, our generation's culture, and travels, we're a lot more interested in learning it on our own.

Ok, say their reasoning for being such assholes really was just for security. Do they really think that someone that stands out as much as you would even be TRYING to sneak around to do vile things in their precious attractions? I worked as airport security for 10 years and I'm a goth...only fucking idiots who have no business being in that field of work would pick on a goth! You are completely spot on! Ignorant clusterfucks think goths all worship the devil...sadly that's why they think that goths in a cemetery must be up to something. I'm not just saying this because I'm a goth myself, I had to "tone it down" at work, and I hated it! I got away with as much as I could appearance wise. I've had a passenger throw their steel cap boots at me screaming. .."do I look like a fucking terrorist? " which I replied. .."if I knew what a terrorist looked like I'd be out of a job". And it's as simple as that!

"Alternatives" regarding race/place of origin has also been an issue :/ There are night clubs where, for example, they don't let Latin-Americans in. It's sad that security people are like that though, and that had happened before the terrorist attempts
Artechiza Artechiza To be honest I don't think race is as big of an issue in France as we make it out to be in the media. I mean you have of course those crazy racist nationalists who want "France for French people" (that's literally their motto, I'm not kidding), but everyone else despise them, even people in the far right. However if you look like you come from the "cité" (French equivalent for the ghetto, but with a predominantly Arabic population), then you will probably get judged quite unfairly, even though sometimes it is deserved if you act rudely/uncivilisedly in the street. (I realise you are probably French too, I just wrote all these explanations in case other people read this comment).

I'm trying so hard not to cry :( I'm so pissed that happened to you both. The art museum and then that...wow. It is experiences like this that I do not even wear makeup outside anymore. Only because I hate confrontation and value peace. I even make sure my pentagram is under my shirt, one reason why is I live around a lot of churches. It's horrifying and shitty what can happen. Yes, that whole stigma of "You're a bad parent if you look that way" needs to go away. The other parents might as well just talk to walls, because all that matters is what you and your kid thinks, and that is a plus if your kid loves how you look. Thank you, I am getting there slowly :D
CaityGorey yeah...I killed a part of me when I entered the work world... it's hard. and now that I can't work anymore I have a struggle inside...got used to the black jeans and t shirt. but I miss the black glam... then, when I feel the need for black glam I struggle with the need of matching with all I learned to like and I feel like a mess! society breaks people up. it's not the fear of rejection no more, I don't have to look formal no more...but they broke the pre- established me into so many mes to cope with the society's expectations that even though I have a goth philosophy, I don't know how to be myself outside. I go with the flow of the day... but feel incomplete. I don't know how to explain it better.

Well I won't be visiting Paris any soon, the fact that they refused your patronage because of how you looked really turns me off of ever visiting there. My family will be travelling to Holland and Germany this spring I'm so excited because you guys really inspired me to visit.
