So buddy. I'm planning to buy a TD but would mostly be used while playing in bedroom however I'm a bit confused between TD & past fx but I'm fascinated with the sound of the TD.. what's your take?
@@anup_pinkfloydian not this but next sunday I'll share a video about 5 different gilmour type overdrives where I play 10 different song for each pedal. You'd love that
Remember, volume plays a _Huge_ part in any live Guitar sound produced by Guitarists such as Gilmour, Young, SRV, Moore, May, Blackmore, Scholz et al. They also record their studio albums with their Amps pushed to produce natural overdrive/distortion --- they are then able to add pedals to taste. Whereas home/bedroom guitarists have their Amps turned down and are over doing the amount of effect/pedal they are adding to the sound.
spot on !!! ... few players know the saturation sweet spot on their tube amps ... use a bleed to lower the volume but not the juice !!! you can play quite low and still get amazing tone
Duuuude yes it’s crazy how much of a difference adding amplitude to the sound wave does for the texture you can tell when it’s closed or open on the volume
PastFX are overlooked and underrated, they do AWESOME stuff. I own a Fox Phase, and had it shipped all the way from australia - and it’s so great, warmm sweet and authentic - their recreations are next level stuff.

It’s no big deal, just tick the paid promotion box in your settings. I don’t think anyone will think any less of the quality of the pedal (it’s clearly amazing like all their pedals) or you simply because it says “paid promotion” at the top of the screen for a few seconds.
@@guitardave I don’t agree with you one bit, but I understand your point. Though, I didn’t say buy this pedal, I didn’t say this pedal is better than any other pedal, I didn’t compare anything. I’m not “promoting” anything here, just giving out free information and I’m doing it on TH-cam for free, this video is demonetized too :) so nothing is financed here, I even paid the tax for this pedal when it shipped to Istanbul
Hello from Scotland. Great sounding pedal. Seems to come alive with the EMG's. I bought the TD-Y at the end of last year. Killer sounding too. Past FX were also a pleasure to deal with, not many companies are like that these days. How about making a video with both the TD-Y and the Revolution with the EMG strat.
I'm really enjoying these videos, you do an awesome job covering Davids tones. I'm wanting to buy one of these Past FX pedals, if you could choose only one would you get the Revolution or the Patriarch? I favour the Gadansk and Pompeii tones and don't have a dedicated muff pedal. I do have an overdrive (BD2). Thank you again for all your hard work!!
that is a tough one, I'd buy patriarch because it can cover from 1977 to present, but still, they both different types of pedals. revolution can cover different types of tones that I love, patriarch can cover big muff tones. ps. on second thought, I think I'd get patriarch first and get a loan and buy revolution second the next day
People saying in the comments that something is missing. That’s because when Pete Cornish altered the G2s muff circuit the outcome was a sound that lacked depth and was much milder than his earlier p1/p2 counterparts. That’s why gilmour always blended the G2 with the bk butler. ( G2 after BK) Not as a volume boost but as a way of eq ing the G2 for a more pleasing tone. And to be honest although he had the G2 on his board for a while there’s not much recorded evidence that he used one as often as many people seem to think.
I believe that the delay used on the live versions of "Echoes" during the "funky section" or as I call it "3rd Movement" (Because I'm a pretentious sod) was a T-Rex Replica. I know he debuted the pedal at Royal Albert Hall mid-2000s when it came out. My favourite simple digital delay. It just works perfectly, never gets in your way. The PastFX pedal + my Replica would be a dream! Then all I need are 6 HiWatt DR103s..
Great stuff. Love the Daphne Blue Strat, BTW. I have a Vick Audio V2. I always thought the G2 sounded like a mash up of a Muff, a TD (particularly it’s Marshall-y character), and a RAT. The V2 sounds like a bit of the the TD and Muff, less like the RAT, and has some differences in the circuit (no germanium, and it’s only buffered when engaged). It does a great job of capturing much of the G2 character, though the Past FX may be slightly better.
I use a V2 as well. It's like a low-gain Muff with some RAT in there as well. It uses silicon and is probably based on an old, inaccurate schematic that did the rounds on DIY pedal forums back in the day. It certainly doesn't sound bad! It's actually my favorite distortion pedal for the Laney Cub12R. Fave overdrive Jetter Traindrive & the V2 work so well together. Australian builder Devtech make a G2 type called "Custom Muff" which I own, but this PastFX sounds *much* closer to Gilmour's G2 tones. Custom Muff is a great modified Muff.
@@mattgilbert7347 the V2 is a great pedal, but it’s way more Muff than Rat. I think the buffers and germanium parts are the difference (and on the official website, it says they were deliberate). I like mine, though I think it’s best alone rather than stacked (in my personal experience). You can get Gilmour tones out of it, even G2 tones, but I have a feeling the Top Tone DG2 or the Past FX (Buffalo FX) clones are probably closer to the real deal from what I’ve read. Unfortunately, both are hard to get where I am. I’m also pretty sure Vick Audio isn’t making the V2 anymore, which makes me happy I grabbed one when I did. He also makes/used to make a ColorSound PowerBoost clone that was pretty spot on with the original. Of all the Gilmour pedals, the one I’ve found that you can’t fully substitute is the PowerBoost. The BD2 is great, so is the EHX Hot Tubes/Hot Wax… but there’s something about that one I haven’t found a substitute for, outside legit clones. Especially for the rhythms on “DSOTM”, and basically all of “WYWH”.
Sounds great! Although for echoes he used a triangle muff and T-rex delay replica during that tour. You can see them on top of his Pete Cornish pedalboard
He actually included triangle later in the tour, I’m not sure if he even used the pedal, I haven’t seen any data. Though, on royal Albert hall, his echoes funky tone sounds brighter, I’ll look into it when I do royal Albert hall definitive guide
@@mustyguitar recent pics of his studio def show the triangle floating around and in his (gigantic) pedalboard along with the rams head, tube drivers, a powerboost and various other things. Seems like the kind of guy that just likes to have whatever on hand for when the mood strikes lol
It would be interesting to see if the tone in Careful with that axe Eugene - Live at Brighton Dome can be produced near the Gdansk tone. This is amazing. And also you seem to be the first one I've seen play the Gdansk funky part. Cheers
Hey! I watched and loved all your pastfx demos :) I was wondering - have you got to try the m-1-a? From the small amount of demos I saw it sounds really killer, between revolution and partirch. Thanks!!
The Money solo was done on a 24 fret Bill Lewis guitar with hum buckers. That may be the last link to getting Money perfect. But.... Bill Lewis guitars were custom made and finding one for sale is difficult. You may see favorable results with a Music Man JP-6. Thank you for your generously encouraging others and helping people learn.
PastFx pedals are really great 👍🏼 worth any penny!! You must try the Electric Mattress with a ram’s! By the way, the G-2 is based on a Big Muff circuit but with some modifications
@@geoffreymerrifield5666 The Wall is very known for this Big Muff Ram’s head tone, that cut the mix perfectly. The patriarch is based on Civil War Big Muff and not the tone you ear on the Wall. The Revolution is based on Cornish G-2, that is much closer to me but not really the good one. Check P-19 from Skreddy or Vick Audio RH73 or EHX Ram’s Head reissue. What amp do you use?
Really like your channel! Also, try Vick Audio V-2. It's a cross between G-2 and RAT. The V2 ...I believe is out of production but you can find them used, very affordable (no hype yet.)
Mike of Vick Audio retired at the end of 2023. The V-2 retired prior to that before he closed business. Very sad. I have several of his Gilmour inspired pedals, V2, various big muffs, Overdriver, and The Tree of Life is awesome, too....cross between Zen Drive and OCD.
that is just a perfect question Derek. it's right after fuzz pedals and right before overdrive pedals. I like to have dirtier pedals up front and cleaner ones after. But honestly, if you're not pairing pedals, you can put gain pedals as desired (of course, follow the logical signal chain, I'm talking between gain pedals.)
I understand that's the idea, but I get more than a few gifts from different brands. I don't do demos on most of them because I don't believe they are the right tool. I only accept gifts if I have the say about what the video will be like and there is NO WAY they can complain about the comments I make. PastFx or any other brand knows that it's up to me to do whatever I do with the pedals or the products. Most of them expect videos, some of them get that I PERSONALLY want to with my own comments. You're right though, I should've been clearer.
It's too compressed to rival the tdy lower gain and eq controls but as a overall gain pedal it can provide pretty much all the benefits of muffs and cleans up like an OD pretty well in the standard mode. The modern mode was a bit too intense for me but I sure loved the range of this pedal. It's like a zen drive that got excommunicated from the dojo
Hi Mustafa... nice video... have you ever tried the Vox valvenergy silk drive for Gilmour tones? I got it recently and it works nicely for money solo...
you know, I saw the pedal at a pawn shop type store the other day, it made me think it looks so cool. but even the word "vox" just creeps me out, no disrespect to Vox brand or anything but the sound from vox pedals or amps are not my type. I don't even like Queen or The Beatles. shame on me.
@@mustyguitar neither I like the vox ac30 sound, but this four pedals they pulled out are amps in a box for dumble (silk drive) box ac30 (the mystic drive) Marshall (the copper head) and mesa boogie (the cutting edge), I got the silk drive and sounds great…
@@aerialpictures_drone_videos I should make myself clear, I think vox is a great brand, I'm pretty sure there are really good Gilmour type tones on vox amps and pedals. so I'm not even a professional musician to criticize a 50+ year working company :) If you're happy with the sound, that's great! now I am intrigued to try the pedal man...
Tell us about the Green Strat you are using? This pedal really reminds me of a boss boss blues driver which Snowy White used as his only overdrive pedal when touring with Roger Waters.
That may be true, because G-2 on its own is not as powerful. But maybe he used tube driver after, I’ll get into that when I do definitive live 8 tone guide
I have two things to ask. What is your opinion on the triangle big muff. Secondly could you do the live gilmour version of astronomy domine (not gdansk) but all things being said that pedal is definitely gonna find a way into my pedal board
I've tried triangle big muff reissue and was just about to buy just for live at pompeii type earlier tones, but store said they were out of stock and the one I'm using was already sold, then I forgot about it. second, I don't listen anything before atom heart mother, I may make a PULSE cover of the song eventually though.
Hi Mustafa, I respect you so much for the work you do but in this case we need to make a clarification, the pedal is a clone of the Buffalo Fx Evolution which is a remake of the Cornish G2. As well, the TD-Y is a clone of the Buffalo Fx TD-X which is inspired by the Bk Butler Tube Drive. I have both, the 'originals' 😅of course.
Just check the intonation of your sonic blue strat. Down low is fine but up high even on bends it's not hitting the note because it's flat . It wasn't your bend so much but more the string on that part high up the neck song was fat old sun solo.
Come to Australia and you can have every type of Tim-Tam. Some Australians bight the ends off Tim Tams, dip one end into Coffee or tea and suck the drink into their mouths do that the Tim Tams filter it and make it taste different.
Hahaha :) you know, Verlie from PASTFX sent me a box of timtams but because of some stupid laws, I couldn’t get it from the customs and had to return it :/
@@guyzeevi2005 mini doesn't. it's got 3 channels and all have great sounds in them. it can't take pedals and honestly, I would not use pedals with boss katana as well as it's not a tube amp. pedals are great to drive tubes in amps in my opinion. boss katana already has great modeling sounds in it.
I just want to say that this pedal is overhyped. It is noisy, it's very hard to get a decent tone out of it, and after purchasing it, I can't even give it away. I listed it on an auction site and have got the price down to almost half what I paid. Not only has nobody purchased it, last week another listing appeared, someone who also bought this pedal because of the hype, regretted it, and is having a hard time getting rid of it. All I can say is question what you hear, especially when the viral buzz is as strong as with this one. It's nothing like a big muff.
I always use this pedal and I love the tones, it’s noisy I admit, but it has enormous gain and fat, faaat neck sound even on low gain. It’s overdrive if you want, it’s a distortion if you want, it’s not a big muff, it never was, but it does a very good job for big muff tones. I have never taken it off my board and to this day I used it on several of my covers! I watched this video one more time after i saw this comment. What a great pedal! Lovely tones. Sorry it doesn’t suit your taste but hey, I don’t like tube screamers, I don’t think they are bad, I think I just don’t like that sound. I think that’s the case for you about this pedal. I also want to say I’m not affiliated with the brand.
@@mustyguitar You can have your opinion, you say it's a great pedal. Not everyone agrees and no it doesn't cover every Gilmore sound particularly well. I know you're not affiliated with the brand, they only send you free pedals. Just like you don't like Tube Screamers I didn't like the sound of this pedal, and if there hadn't been so much delay, backing track and hype in this video I probably would have known.
@mentetranquilla What amp and pickups are you using? I have the Revolution, and I love it. I use emg pickups the gilmour ones, and I don't even have an amp I use a Boss I.R 200 amp sim and sounds good. You have to mess with the knobs to suit your amp and pickups.
Great playing as usual but... this peddle for me lacks something... It sounds a bit flat, a bit lifeless. Maybe it doesn't have enough bite. I don't know exactly what it is so maybe it's just because of TH-cam or my speakers etc. because you seem to love it. Peace
Great vlog review and the sounds are one of this world considering it’s a bedroom setup. 👏🏻 Can you please request a discount code for followers? I see not problem what so ever with you endorsing gear and doing afflicted marketing. Your channel is my favorite when it comes to all things Gilmour. I am visiting Turkey 🇹🇷 from US soon. Please let me know if you need anything from here brother Mustafa.
Thank you, maybe in the future projects, I can ask, but for now, PastFx already dealt with a lot of sh-t from Turkey customs. I'm a little embarrassed :)

Is your backing track for fat old sun the full track or just a centre channel extraction for the solo ?
I found it online but I edited it for Gdansk version, just the solo part
Hi Mustafa! Great video. Wich is the delay time in funky guitar part of echoes?
Gilmour had around 300ms but I just turn the knob where I think sounds the best for me.
I think I'll bite the bullet and get the Tube Driver. I wonder how these pedals would stack.
Very, veeery noisy :)
Which amp did you use on this video? Good video
I always use my laney cub12r for this channel because I record everything at my home.
@@mustyguitar do you use at 1 watt?
@@jayo2527 everything in this channel is recorded on 1 watt input
I think gilmour put a tube driver before the G-2 for live 8
My Revolution pedal has the lead gain switch
What was the song at 4.22 please
On an island
So what you think is better as a first purchase from past fx??tube driver td-y or revolution???
Thanks 😉
depends on the tones you want, what is the tone you want?
Hi Mustafa, I respect you so much for the work you do but in this case we need to make a clarification, the pedal is a clone of the Buffalo Fx Evolution which is a remake of the Cornish G2. As well, the TD-Y is a clone of the Buffalo Fx TD-X which is inspired by the Bk Butler Tube Drive. I have both, the 'originals' 😅of course.
I knew that, I read in their website. Well, a clone of a clone of a pedal, is still a clone of the pedal in my book :) thank you for your words!
@@mustyguitar in math it is called Transitive Property 😂 I know!
What pick up you use in the first guitar, thanks.
Texas Specials
What model strat?
Hocam elinizdeki sarı bantın bir işlevi var mı?
Just check the intonation of your sonic blue strat. Down low is fine but up high even on bends it's not hitting the note because it's flat . It wasn't your bend so much but more the string on that part high up the neck song was fat old sun solo.
Come to Australia and you can have every type of Tim-Tam. Some Australians bight the ends off Tim Tams, dip one end into Coffee or tea and suck the drink into their mouths do that the Tim Tams filter it and make it taste different.
Hahaha :) you know, Verlie from PASTFX sent me a box of timtams but because of some stupid laws, I couldn’t get it from the customs and had to return it :/
It’s hard seeing the pedal settings. Without knowing the settings what is the point of this video?
I have the chance to get a laney cub 12, how important is the reverb of the amp? Does it matter? Thank you
I never use the reverb on the amp. I use reverb on Logic if I want.
@@mustyguitar so the 12 is the same as the 12r just without reverb?
@@-delta-4449 hmm, that I don't know, but I doubt there is any difference. I'm not the guy to know that unfortunately.
@@mustyguitar alright, thank you!
Can you try boss katana 100
I would if I had one. I own a boss katana mini just to carry with me, it sounds delightful
@@mustyguitar does it receive the pedals well?
@@guyzeevi2005 mini doesn't. it's got 3 channels and all have great sounds in them. it can't take pedals and honestly, I would not use pedals with boss katana as well as it's not a tube amp. pedals are great to drive tubes in amps in my opinion. boss katana already has great modeling sounds in it.
Bella strato
Peace
It’s got an internal boost switch, I just use stock in this video, maybe that’s it for you but honestly I’m loving the sounds
Great vlog review and the sounds are one of this world considering it’s a bedroom setup. 👏🏻
Can you please request a discount code for followers? I see not problem what so ever with you endorsing gear and doing afflicted marketing. Your channel is my favorite when it comes to all things Gilmour. I am visiting Turkey 🇹🇷 from US soon. Please let me know if you need anything from here brother Mustafa.
Thank you, maybe in the future projects, I can ask, but for now, PastFx already dealt with a lot of sh-t from Turkey customs. I'm a little embarrassed :)
Are you Turkish?
Clickbait naming… Why? Because “every Gilmour tone” means and early days of Mr.G and PF. 😅
Nevertheless… mesmerising playing as usual 🎉 thanks for this video!
I mean, I can't cover every sound here as you can imagine :) But I'll be using this pedal a lot from now on, I really enjoy the sound.
Dg literally can't play a bad solo
Close but not it. Something is still missing.
Its David Gilmour thats missing, not the Tools. If David played this rig you wouldnt notice anything missing.
@@gypsysteve3576 Nope.
Mustafa, you should try toptone dg2! Greetings from Italy!!
