This is my response to the issue of League thinking that Rugby are trying to deter League players from playing League after they leave Hugh School 1st XV
They don't do Trials like they use too. But it is the key to seeing talent that isn't recognized through mainstream schools. Combined teams for end of season or preseason to get names out there.
I went to the Wellington trials you talk of over 20 years ago and can assure you that those teams were 90% picked before any game. It’s was actually the specific school coaches influence and club connections.
