I appreciate the attention given to the importance of priming and expectation. As someone who has also played a ton of fighting games, it always baffles me how many people don't understand that you must first know what's coming to actually be able to react. Most people think that it's some third eye activation and you need godlike reaction times for everything, when that is not true.
yeah fakers a good example of someone who is misunderstood. as great as he is - we should be commending his ability to understand whats probably going to come at him as opposed to him dodging it like a beast. both are fantastic abilities but the one thats more important is his perma game sense.
This was hard to understand for me, but made all the difference. If you don't know what's coming, it's way harder to react well with good reflexes than it is to be primed for what could happen.
very concise and easy to understand. i watched at 2x speed because adhd but i don't wanna hurt your retention rate so now i'm gonna rewatch it on .5 speed
This guide format should be the TH-cam Meta when it comes to providing useful insights on how to improve in this game. Understanding what your mental stack was in every small decision gives the viewer an inside-out understanding, not in a dogmatic, shallow, and over-conceptual way, but indeed an exercise in understanding and discipline in the game. It would be great to be able to watch more of these!
Something that OFGSaiph drills into any higher elo player he coaches: Do NOT listen to music while playing if you are serious about winning, and turn off all the voices and random noise in the background, you only need effect sounds enabled. So for example, before Cass ults, you hear the scream, before Malp ults, you hear the roar, etc. If you have voices or music enabled, it's just extra distracting and makes it more difficult to hear. Pretty much exactly as you said, love the past few videos man, really great content
i was actually waiting for the ingenious hunter image to pop up with my finger over k and i paused but there wasnt a ms timer when it finally did show up :( lol
Great video with many helpful tips, thanks you. There's also the concept of linking individual actions to specific reactions in order to lessen the amount of things you need to keep in your mental stack. For example a quick glance at the minimap whenever you last hit a minion, check enemy item purchases when walking to lane etc.
i can't believe this guy would lie to me about the ingenious hunter picture being on the screen for exactly 300ms!1!!!1!! ngl u got me during the nidalee clip bc i was not even expecting ori q w because i was thinking about nidalee q and ingenious hunter LMAOOOO cool video, really condensed and concise. well done
As a newer (and very low elo) player, I legit did not know the animations and sounds offered as much telegraphing as they do. This alone was worth the click, but the other points are solid too; thank you :)
By the way could u maybe do a video on team comps/ how to counter pick comps I feel like you have a good brain for analyzing stuff in front of you and finding the best option to go for a in game at least
You should check OFGSaiph, his coaching sessions cover stuff like this and there is a lot of stuff on his youtube too(though mostly not of this type, but still great content, even the 6+ year old videos). I'm actually surprised I found someone who is as knowledgeable as Saiph(Nidhogg), most high elo players seem to be just fake intellectuals who copy what other high elo players do without really thinking about it, meanwhile in the old League days, Saiph changed what's considered "META" multiple times, he's pretty good at theory-crafting regarding items
Did you edit this yourself? Really nice video, idk what tiktok or youtube shorts limit is but this video could do well if you can upload it full or in 2 or 3 parts
thank you for inspiring me to do better, the wasd bidings really are better i modified it a little to fit my baby hands and they work wonderfully keep the great content and stay safe. love your videos.
I haven’t realize I do all of this all the time and I never needed a video, I simply did it bc I wanted to look cool and spaceglide Cool video, fast and well explained.
as much as i would love to follow ur advice about playing without the music on, i absolutely cant, if i turn it off i get distracted more easily, having something to mentally tune out helps me focus better
Had this laptop for just over a year. I have just been reminded to switch the refresh rate from 60 -> 160... Also salty I had my hand over the spacebar the entire time only to pause on an explanation of why you're not putting the image up :(
11/10 vid, now if people ask me how I'm good at mechanics, I can just link them this video, these concepts are the main reason I have hands lmao also, why do you turn off announcer + ping volume? announcer I can kinda see, but not hearing pings seems interesting, so I'm curious to the thought process
I would assume, having played at the level he has for as long as he has, Erick has access to any information that pings might provide. He is generally acutely aware of the map so he'll notice pings, and in heated moments the only pings that really matter are the ones close to you. For the average player I'd imagine turning off ping sounds might be more of a loss than it would be for him.
they fuck with audio cues and a lot of them are worthless. given that your team is good at pinging effectively it's ok to leave it on. i just turn it off cuz 99% of people spam ping/ping improperly. the ones that ping properly i can watch anyway and they're not on-demand ones that require the extra 50ms~ advantage that hearing gives
@@KingNidhogg gotcha makes sense, maybe I'd have to spend less time muting people being obnoxious with ping sounds haha. I'll give those two audio changes a try (I already have everything except announcer, pings, and sounds muted)
ok update I tried muting pings and announcer and it felt like my focus went up so much, my macro decisions were my own, if I wanted information from my teammates I had to be using fkeys/panning map/looking at minimap to SEE the pings. crazy difference both in winning games and improving at the game
I've been playing on 60 fps although I have 144 monitor thanks for reminding me LOL. Had to switch it to 60 to play star wars knights of the old republic months ago. Such a big difference.
nice taric e dodge at 9:18 ! is it usually best to sidestep taric e like that? ik it depends on the scenario (ms difference, team positioning, the stun's angle, etc) but it seems scary to walk into his hitbox at the last second
idk if this is just a me thing, but i do pay attention to voice lines when anticipating a dodge or other concepts too cause usually when I am focused on something else like csing or something else or in general not anticipating a dodge, that if i hear the sound of the ability but also the voiceline attached to it, i can narrow down the exact ability much faster. For example, draven e and q are pretty distinct sounds but when theres a teamfight i cant see the difference or even hear the ability sound due to the sound blending into each other in a teamfight and hearing the voice line lets me know draven q or draven e which primes me into focusing on that. Would u say dialogue volume would then be important in letting you know the situation of a different player? basically teamfight, cant see or hear draven q and e difference, dialogue lets me know which, makes me anticipate it faster than having to look more carefully at what every person on enemy team is doing, dialogue good?
Basically just use settings that maximize your focus. I personally have everything on because I like to play video games as they were intended and I'm not going pro (I'm Master). So whatever makes you enjoy the experience the best, do it. If listening to voice lines helps you; use it. These videos are guides, not rules. Take the information and interpret it as best you can. Good luck on the rift!
Also I tend to watch the minimap for ganks instead of looking at my screen, is that a bad habit that I should fix? Should I try to balance my attention on both or should I train myself to only look at the minimap on moments when I predict something should happen, and otherwise keep something like a 80-20 attention ratio on my screen and minimap
Honestly I don't like turning off voice lines (I put them to low like 12%) because there so many new flashy sound changing skins that I just can't distinguish whose ability it is.
Well my reaction time is 0.3 seconds ish, and im young and have been gaming a lot. I need to play mostly off of predictions which is very tiering so i actually win a lot more if i play 1-3 games a day, and climb faster too. 5+ games of constantly dodging by predicting the enemy is extremely difficult, dunno how these challengers are doing it.
i have a question that i cant seem to find the answer anywhere so i play on a mac book( ik its not for games but its what i have) and the macbook is 14 inch 120hz and i have a monitor that is 24 inches and 60hz, both are at 4k resolution so my question is what would be better to use the small monitor with high refresh rate or the big one with low refresh rate
@@KingNidhogg its not about the mac its about the size of the monitor its amazing quality colors ect ect but its only 14 inches ime currently trying to play with it and im dodging alot of sh*t so ig its better to be on small monitor and high refresh rate than on a big one with low refresh rate
Whatever works for you personally. Generally a bigger refresh rate is better, but I'd rather drag my balls through a mile of sandpaper rather than play on a 14 inch screen.
