Sandy MacDougall, the owner, runs the hotel like a hostel with unpaid staff staying in the rooms instead of paying guests.

For those wondering what happened - It was a great success and still is. However according to a facebook post from June 4th 2022 he is selling the lodge, because he got a heart attack. Promises the new owner would keep it dog friendly and all that. Sandy's gonna be breeding English Setters and run a doggie day care at his new place of living.
That's good, heart attacks can get progressively more frequent and deadly over time. Im glad the guy has decided to take it down a notch after a successful inkeeping career.

@@margarethmichelina5146 You are terribly wrong. What is the most annoying are the masters. I have a Chihuahua and she is the most well behaved dog in the neigbourhood. Dog is a dog and needs to be trained, no matter of it´s size. I do not even use leash or harness, anything, because my dog listens to sounds I make or gestures of my hands. We cross the street just by saying- Ruby, stay, wait. than I slap my leg and she knows it´s time to go. When we cross I pett her and tell her she´s a good girl. And she only barks when I tell her to, or at the snowmann, don´t ask me why.
You should always take care of your pets, training them is part of it. So they do not bother anyone. I do not like barking dogs also and I have one.

Sandy seems like a really nice guy who was just blind to his mistakes, thankfully his business is booming and he is doing great as an owner.

This hotel is still open till this day and Layla has a lot of kids. Sadly, Layla passed away last year due to her old age. Same with Gordon's dog, Rumpole who also passed away around 2 years ago.
So sad, when your beloved pets leave you. I have lost my cat after 18 years being with her, it was terrible.

@@margarethmichelina5146 She, Zirael was a really strange cat, only tolerated me and would beat up anyone else. My daughter was scared of her even after she died. But it was my cat after all and I loved her, but she was very ill at the end and I could not let her go on like that. Lucky me I still have my little Chihuahua Ruby. So sad for your dogs, it´s like part of you goes with them isn´t it? people who doesn´t have any pets would never understand. I´d be one sad old fart without my little Ruby, she even eats better than me. Best dog food you can find and only dry meat treats I even go out just because of her, would not do it if I am hungry, but if she needs to go, she needs to go.

I just love how Gordon and the show invest more in hotels & restaurants with genuine good people. I was amazed people were working there without being paid, really glad he took the initiative to fix that. Seems like they are doing well! I would totally go stay here. Having a kennel is actually really smart too for a ski area, makes things so much simpler (and probably cheaper) for dog owners

This is one hell of an episode of "House".
I went to a dog friendly inn/hotel once.
The dogs were allowed in the lobby and the sound proofed hotel rooms, they were allowed nowhere near the kitchen areas or dining areas, nor were they allowed to run around without a leash. You were also not allowed to leave your dog alone in the hotel room.
Some dogs (Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, GSD, Dobermans) were required to have a muzzle on. When I asked why, they said it's so that they wouldn't have to deal with bullshit from small dog owners bitching about "large, dangerous dogs" being allowed. I happily obliged keeping a muzzle on my rottweiler boi, who worked with Autistic children and was better trained and behaved than any of the little yappers, for the sake of not subjecting the employees to Karens...
You can have it dog friendly without allowing the dogs to disrupt the entire business.
I feel your pain we have a pitbull and im telling you our lady little Nala is a angel but we have to treat this sweet affectionate dog like a serial killer because some bimbo witch with a yorkie saw a "informative" video on facebook 😂😂😉

The Chef crying over serving juice concentrate speaks volumes about his love for the profession. And the way the owner couldn't close his mouth so emotional about the changes, shows he at least truly cares.

I have never ever ever been as big of a supporter for a hotel owner as I am with Sandy. I was in tears seeing the other chef cry, watching Sandy himself break down....he really deserves it

Sandy must be an incredibly good guy. Like, all the staff were working there without being payed. All the staff was really crying over the makeover. They knew Sandy have a lot of flaws and can't do his job as inn keeper but they were on his side. Telling him how It is, was not for them to let go their frustration, It's was for Sandy to get a grip. Sandy was just lost and needed someone to show him a path.
When Gordon said about bedding Sandy's mind was probably thinking how good his guest will feel in these beds now instead of how much money Gordon just gave them.
For a one second I didn't doubt that If Sandy will get ANY money from the inn, he will immidiately pay his staff and buy some treats for Layla.
It's a bunch of people with passion and full of love.

The lodge is doing so well right now, this episode is quite emotional to me at least after reading their latest reviews.
Well, if the owner is promising to pay next week, or next day people can believe and wait especially if they don't have any other option of employment. Its not so easy to find new job right away, plus there is no guarantee that the new place would be better.
Plus, if you leave then all of the money you suppouse to get may be gone so its might be that people believe that if they wait just a little bit longer they would be paid for everything.

The same can happen in Europe but employees hace rights and if a place doesn't do right by you by PAYING, what is the point in continuing? Get yourself out. Nobody is going to look after you
@@SabrinaLWilliams you sound like you're privileged. There are situations where there is no more options, nothing to move on, so you take whats available. Then you start to work in a place for multiple hours, so you don't have much time to look for something different. Its horrible but it happens.
I dont know about laws in states, im from Europe. We do have laws to protect workers, but it does not always work. To go to court you need money for lawyer. And it takes time.
Just at the beggining of pandemia we had a situation when all the workers in a factory were left with nothing, because the owner escaped abroad 🤷♀️ they also couldn't just mobe on to different job, because they couldn't get their employment documentation, since the boss took off.
Things like this happen and the workers aren't the ones who are responsible for their bosses breaking the law.

My gosh i felt so sorry for Chef Steve. He wanted to impress Chef Ramsay but just didn't have the tools to do so. He knew it was gonna be bad. But made the best of a shit situation cooking for a world class Chef poor guy.

This was my favourite episode so far. I've seen it before but I like it so much I just watched it again. This man was way in over his head. But what I love is he didn't give up, Chef Ramsay gave him the tools to succeed, helped him reprioritize and the utter joy on his face was so amazing. Then to see all these poochies, so happy and the new name Layla's man this gave me so much joy. What I also love, is they don't redo the entire Inn, they give them 2 or 3 rooms, revamp the necessities and give them tools so they can do the rest with confidence and earn some money in the meantime. I know there isn't a lot about these shows that isn't scripted, but those emotions were genuine. Loved this epsidoe.
