I lived in Lancaster and worked in New holland for 4 years between june 2012 to march 2016. The roads you have showed I travelled every working day. You have presented the deepest knowledge of Amish county I ever saw in any video or verbal communication. Thank you for great work..
A little bit about Lancaster city and county. It is not all Amish. In fact, they represent only a portion of the area. Lancaster ls considered the oldest inland city in the US. There were a lot of early German settlers here, but there were also a number of English, Irish, Scotch, Welsh, Dutch, Swedes, some Jews and other ethnic groups, including native Indians. The local community was instrumental in making armaments for Washington's Revolutionary army. He personally came to Lancaster on several occasions, the last following his retirement, to thank the community for their assistance in the war effort. After the British invaded Philadelphia during the Revolution, many of that city's aristocracy moved to Lancaster, turning it into a sophisticated town. Hessian mercinary soldiers were imprisoned in the town because so many of the local citizens spoke German. Many of the Hessians became friendly with the local citizens and stayed following the war. After the British invaded Philadelphia, the Continental Congress moved west, spending a day in Lancaster and several months farther west in York to protect themselves from the British. Many of the Continental Congress preferred Lancaster, then a more sophisticated area than York. The city was visited not just by Washington, but Lincoln and, later, John F. Kennedy, among others. Lancaster city has the historic Fulton Theater, one of the oldest theaters in the United States. Performers included the Booths, the Barrymores and even Spencer Tracy in his early years. I have merely touched upon this fascinating and historic city. It is worth visiting.
The farm on the left with the trees down the main driveway - Beechdale Farms was part of the underground railroad- there is also Beech trees on that property that have initials carved in them form 100 years ago ( I worked on that farm when there were driving show horses )
Wow so cool! I live in Canada in a city of all immigrants and I am the minority being a white Canadian and in their countries they have things tens of thousands of years old, they laugh when I say something is very old when it’s 100 years old lol. Such history in that farm though that’s awesome.
Thank you for a wonderful informative tour about the Amish. All of the time that I live in New York, visited PA., been in Lancaster, I never took the time out learn about the Amish people. There is a Amish community living in Kentucky.
I love learning about the Amish. I'm familiar with Berlin Ohio a great place to visit so peaceful there beautiful scenery lots of shops. Never been to Pennsylvania Thank you so much for this video!!

Just an FYI and over 8 years since this video was produce, & Bull Moose & Bull Elk and Buck Deer have Antlers (NOT HORNS) Antlers have no blood supply therefore they are shed yearly. However, cows and goats for instance have HORNS which DO have a blood supply and do NOT shed. If a cow or goat loses a horn it most likely was a bloody mess where they may have gotten into a fight or got caught up in a fence or something. Your lesson for November 16th, 2020. hehe !!
Oh my gosh. This driver is putting out some outlandish info and evidently doesn't think it's necessary to know any better. Alpacas are part of the Camelidae family as are Llamas. Both Alpacas and Llamas are more like a camel than a sheep and both Llamas and Alpacas have fabulous FIBER you can clean, card and spin your own yarn for knitting and or crocheting or felting.
I don't know where you got your information about Amish. At least 50% is incorrect. I'm a nurse and work intimately inside of Amish homes caring for chronically ill Amish children. All day 5 days a week for 10 yrs. I've been to funerals & viewings , weddings, church, etc. Many things you said are incorrect.
That is common in that part of PA. Generally not frowned upon if it's done carefully. Otherwise you can be stuck behind a slow vehicle for a long time.

Did you know that the Amish people don't pay Social Security tax and that the young Amish men are not subject to being drafted and that Amish children are not required to attend school beyond the 8th grade, all because of their religion? Do we have a state religion? Yes we do. Just look at the Amish.
Sylvia, what protects the Amish is what protects you, it's called the Constitution, it's not a religion. The state can not make laws greater than GOD has commanded nor can the state enforce a people to do things that are forbidden by God. Jesus commands that we not murder and it is a sin against God do so, so the Amish refuse to go to war and to support the state-endorsed murder of people... unfortunately, they most definitely are subject to the draft and many of them were jailed during vietnam for refusing to enlist. Social Security is NOT a "tax" it is an insurance premium and based on Jesus' commands in Matt 6:24-34, Luke 12:22-26, and the Old Testaments commands against usury, insurance is wicked. Based on a 1951 Supreme Court ruling Amish are precluded from participating _and collecting_ social security insurance. As far as education goes, in the 1971 Supreme Court ruling in favor of Jacob Yoder in _Wisonsin v Yoder_ Justice Berger and the entire Supreme court ruled : "States cannot force individuals to attend school when it infringes on their First Amendment rights. In this case, the state of Wisconsin interfered with the practice of a legitimate religious belief." It would do you well to learn the protections of your Constitution for it alone is what protects you from spouting the lies you advocate in your most erroneous comment, impugning good people and trying to instill animosity against people who can not respond to your non-sense. Your ignorance about the protections of the Constitution have an air of purpose to them... as if you are a trolling communist.
They don't pay social security tax because they don't collect social security. Unlike a "religious" group near here where EVERY person gets welfare, food stamps, medicaid and not one of them pay taxes. And I don't know where you have been for the past 40 years but we don't have a draft!
The Amish do pay social security when they work for any company or business other than Amish owned. They don’t collect it upon retirement due to their beliefs
I have great respect for the Amish its a crazzy world out there , I think their way of life is beautiful, I would love to go on a trip in the Amish country .

I know that religion is completely incorrect, however I am so stressed out in my life the thought of leaving it all behind and just having a family and husband and children, not having to stress on a career and all the complications that come along with modern life in the 21st century sounds so nice.
