THPS 1 - There's isn't that much challenges to do and there is a lot of empty areas in the levels. But I think that this game played really well and that the videos and soundtrack were phenomenal. I started out with this one 17 years ago, and it does still hold place in my heart for sparking my interest in skateboarding. 8/10 THPS 2 - I really enjoyed every level in this game and I can't find any faults with how they are designed. There is a lot more to do since there are 10 goals for each levels, and they never feel too unfair or too easy. Create-a-Skater and Manuals debuted in this game, and they have been strong points for the series ever since. THPS 2 is definitely one of the strongest in the series, and it added more fuel to my interest of skateboarding. 10/10 THPS 3 - I never used to a fan of this one, but now after giving it another play through these views changed. I feel the same with this than I do with 2. Reverts added an interesting new way of playing, and it helped make scoring satisfyingly high combos easier. The series was at its highest point around this time, and it's a shame how it started to go downhill from there. 10/10 THPS 4 - I used to love this one, but after giving it another try after a 10 year gap of not playing it I feel that this one annoyed me a lot. Some of the missions were tedious, and some others could just be plain stupid. I did like the introduction of doing flatland tricks and skating around for goals to do rather than just doing all of them straight away. I felt a lot more freedom with this game, but it's a shame how that was clouded by the frustrating missions. 8/10 THUG 1 - I love this game to death. The story, the giant levels, the exploring, the secrets, the soundtrack, the videos, and the difficulty options are a joy to behold. My only negative view on the game is that the cars control badly and the missions in the cars were always such a bore, but apart from that I couldn't complain. 10/10 THUG 2 - Don't get me wrong I do like this game, but the story with the Jackass gang wasn't needed. I wanted to go through another interesting storyline focused on skating, and not spend my time riding a mechanical bull around Barcelona. I do like the soundtrack and the story can be fun even though it's pretty short, but I don't find myself coming back to this one that much. 6.5/10 THAW - I haven't played through this whole game in a while, so I don't really have that much to go by. From what I remember I enjoyed the Punk-style storyline, and I thought that each level connected together really well. Riding on a BMX was okay, and the soundtrack was memorable. As a kid I was introduced to Pro Skater 1 that's when I could barely speak English. Then I went rom pro skater 1 to Underground 1 which is my all time favorite Tony Hawk games. I spent hour upon hours playing that game. I build a lot of skateparks, completed all the challenges and just played a lot throughout my high school years.
I once found a cartridge of THPS2 for the Gameboy that someone curiously left in a hotel room when I was a kid, didn't have any knowledge about the series much back then (I was a car racing game nut and still am). I do remember just purposely dunking the skater into the water of the New York level.
that could be it. i dont have an antivirus programm anymore for years now so i dont know for sure. also a long time ago since i installed the game so unfortunately i dont know anymore what fix exactly i used or how i installed it.
Rad Rat Video The GBC version is just a shitty side-scroller, missing half of the levels (to be expected because its on a fucking GBC), the graphics are ass, the trick selection is bare-bones, it's a shitshow.
Man I love this game! I have the Dreamcast version which I feel to be the best one as it had higher detailed characters with clothes rippling when going at speed and the skateboards had proper detailed trucks and wheels unlike the pringle tubes the Ps1/Pc version had. Also remember taking the time to unlock all the gaps and unlock Trixie the big boobed pink haired girl. Even found ways of improving some of the special tricks like 900's, backflips etc which cant be rotated, but if you pull a nosemanual just before performing those tricks it'll allow you to rotate them. So cool getting a 900*900* or 720* backflip :D
The Dreamcast version is awesome! I played that a bit for my full review. I never knew about the rotation thing! I've had it happen before, but I never knew how to do it on purpose. That's really cool.
I had it for the PSX when I was younger, but I absolutely hated it. To my stupid 10 year old mind it would manual seemingly randomly to stop me dead in my tracks and I didn't know how to balance the bar. I know, I was a really dumb kid. Sue me. But when I bought my Dreamcast a few years back I picked it up and had a newfound respect for the game. It controlled great and felt buttery smooth to play for a game from 2000.
I have a legit retail copy for PC but on Windows 8.1 it crashes after I win the Bullring contest. Other than that it works fine, but it's easier to just "borrow" these older games I've found.
My opinion is that the Tony Hawk games were at their peak at around THPS2-THUG1 and THUG2 was where they started declining. THAW was when the series started declining drastically in quality though. I played through THAW recently and it has not aged well. Awful acting, an awful story, boring goals, lots of glitches and slightly weird physics compared to the THPS2-THUG2 engines.
Underground 1 and 2 are so much better mechanically than the thps series, seriously try playing underground 2 or 1 even and then play pro skater 3 or even 4 and notice how much smoother and faster and mechanically sound underground 2 is.
Too bad THPS X2 was never released in PAL terrotories! And you can't import it as the original Xbox is region locked, and I don't bother with getting mine modded just for one game. I'm a huge THPS fanatic but that one left a void in my collection! :P
Oh really? That's a shame! I have a modded Xbox - there's a lot of cool stuff you can do to it, like adding a huge HDD and installing a bunch of games.
I bought me a Ntsc Xbox360 for 50 Euros just for Thps 2X. The 360 is Backwards compatible and it has a Hdmi Connector, so it´s easier to connect to newer Tvs than the original Xbox. The Game was on ebay for around 5 Dollar sealed :) It was worth every Cent ;)
such a good game, most of the way through my 100% playthrough I think I've only got a couple characters to go. Also you said you did a playthrough without buying anything, how would you do that in Philadelphia since you need to buy a trick for a goal, was it not a 100% run or did you just skip it (if you remember)?
I would love to run this game on my windows 10 pc, but i can't figure out how to do it. I tried to run it in compatibility mode and tried to run it as administrator but it keeps telling me that it can't start. Do you have any idea how i can fix this?
The Xbox one is the weird one. They could have made a PS2 version but they probably didn't want to remake the engine until they were ready to go all in on THPS3
THPS2 is the best Skateboarding game ever in my opinion; i LOVE SKATE 2, but i’ve seen so much mongo BS skate 2/3 vids on youtube in 2010/2011 that turned me off the series

With mods this game runs in full HD on PC, even in borderless windowed mode - the modders have done an awesome job with the cumulative patch!

The GBA version was really good! I loved that game.
The animations are soo good! Like a 900 not only looks realistic, it also 'feels' like a very hard trick. They nailed it!

I play this game in Linux with Wine. It runs in widescreen at my monitor's native resolution with distance fog completely disabled. It looks amazing.

+The Aussassin I didn't do 100%. I don't think most characters can get the fountain drained with bad stats
