I’m SO GLAD to see this. This happened to me when my 4 year old found Angry Birds on his grandmothers iPad. I looked at it and felt it was harmless while he was there. What I learned FAR TOO LATE is that Angry Birds connected him to TH-cam to see Angry Bird vids. And then from there it made suggestions of related content... and that continues until the vids are completely unsafe for children. I was SHOCKED that even though I looked into the game, I was undermined as a vigilant parent. I’ve done my best to learn from this. You hear about screen time limits and the harm of too much screen time but you RARELY hear this topic come up and it is oh so critical.
... and this is why I'm not a fan of young children on mobiles and tablets. Don't get me wrong, education in that field is important, but gaming around with apps like that is no education. It is parking your child to have it quiet. It doesn't learn from it. At least not the "right" things, but I think you get what I mean. I'm 33 years old and grew up with a pc-nerd as a father. It was great, and I had my first pc quit early, I was 12 ... but he made a great efford to teach me how to use it, and when the internet came, he again took his time to educate me. What are the risks? What are the benefits? What can you trust, and where being sceptical would be maybe a better choice? I noticed that teens today mostly don't have a clue about rules, lawes, do's and don'ts when using the Internet, and this is dangerous.
AMAZING PRESENTATION! I LOVED EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT AND YOU LEFT ME WANTING MORE...WANTING MORE MOTHERS TO STEP UP LIKE YOU! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR SWEET BABY GIRL I KNOW SHE IS IN GOOD HANDS WITH AN AMAZING MOTHER❤ GOD BLESS YOU BOTH💯🙏🏽
Thank you so much of talking about the impact of technology on parenting. I always remember and the teaching of my mother, father and grandmother. I love the lullabies of my Mom. Lovely watching and listening to you on the top of the mountain of Italy.
Very powerful message there. Just realised that the algorithm got me to watch this Ted talk😊, just to prove your point. Love it!! Thank you for the insights.
You get to choose the extent to which your child is exposed to algorithms and it's your choice of how manage your anxiety. Sounds like you're well trained by algorithms yourself
In edinburgh prison i been tortured badly many ways even they ask me do you want to get shug ones my scott lawyer see me and she said this would call accident
Facebook is a social media site unlike google and siri for example....and im not talking about Google's website searches but im referring to the voice interactive program " hey google " like siri and alexa
Because for example ...siri and google are programmed by developers who fill the programs with actual knowledge facts so yes a machine can actually teach factual knowledge to a person like the knowledge of right and wrong. So i dont understand why the speaker would say that as if her opinion is a true fact....?
I agree that ads totally could be used as manipulation and that children applications should avoid political ads. However, none of the advertisements presented are political. It seems like this comes from the arguments that video games cause violence, which has been disproven a number of times. Additionally, how do you expect these companies to make money? Nothing is free in life.
I too got the vibe that she was trying to draw that link between video game violence and real world violence, but seeing as she didn't continue on about video game violence=real world violence, she didn't bring up a specific phrase or statistic/further info, it leads me to believe that she just personally doesn't want her child exposed to violence at her age, which is her choice as a parent.
Im by no means trying to compete with this speaker's life knowledge or diss her but i dont think she understands.... Enough. And i know we as ppl arent perfect but a teacher has to make it known to their audience as such whether their speech is based on their opinion or mere factualism.
Your emotion is correct but ur perceptions are already influenced by society and that includes AI powered platforms as apps in daily life. So how are you so sure you are genuine?
Teaching your children to be critical thinkers at the earliest possible age is almost the number 1 priority of parenthood.

Interesting, thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing!!
Everyone needs to see this. Hopefully the algorithm picks it up. FREE YOUR MIND!!!

Hugely underrated talk
A woman that is very wise beyond her years. Thank you so much for sharing.
One of the most powerful TED Talks I've watched so far! She put forth the whole idea so brilliantly.
Before this gets deleted... I love you

Ads have always been around. Now they're embedded everywhere.
Technology is important but not to that extent where it kills human thinking. Next gen will surely have adverse effects of this change.
That a powerful speech.Thank you for that. SELF DETERMINATION the goal

Plus all those ads are usually fake gameplay, knowing that little kids will click anyway
Aldous Huxley would be shuddering at the thought of this right now lol
As a single father, I am almost always on autopilot.
Great ...
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Loving that first 0:10 to 0:30 seconds
Great lesson.
Wow, great talk
Thank you so mass.. Love You
Awesome 👏!
It's not accidental. It's depopulation. Destroy the family structure, destroy relationships, destroy fertility, destroy incomes etc...
Catching really

This is why I’d never have kids man. It takes an extraordinary amount of time and attention to be a parent especially in the digital age
Wow excelente 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
You wanted it, you have it
I don't agree with everything she's saying but it's definitely an idea worth sharing.
In edinburgh prison i been tortured badly many ways even they ask me do you want to get shug ones my scott lawyer see me and she said this would call accident
why would anyone just assume it's accidental?
Very true.
Brave New World... 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️

The more we sway from nature, all these ill choices envelop us........

SHE IS A FUNNY ONE, NETFLIX IS ART ! LOL
Considering how well most parents do, leaving it to an AI is probably best.
Did she come out of a dojo?
👍👍👍👍

"Wargames Babysitter, only $4.99 in the AppStore." :|
Perhaps an audio (only) presentation of this video would be more appealing. The audio would have better conveyed the intended message.
Why?
Why? 🙃

"""""Accidental"""""
wow Did she say anything ?
👌👌👌💃💃💃
That’s why you let the child guide you
Yes and get run over and suffer from all artificial causes of harm that a child has no instinctual ability to avoid or remedy.
The way she talks slowly is annoying..
You can set playback speed to 2x it becomes normal
Everyone read Bible
o.k.
