    Gotta love the bare minimalist artist they show you that you don't need the newest 3000 dollar equipment in your house to achieve your dream as an artist keep it up

    As someone who couldn't afford a laptop and a drawing tablet, this gave me hope that i could still make comics in the digital age 😫

    • @ateliersento
      @ateliersento  4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Of course, you can create comics with any tool you like! There are still plenty of artists who draw on paper and that’s a good thing because it brings more diversity to the art styles.

      +Nono Nana Around 5 months to do a 100p volume (while working on other projects at the same time). The video is a little bit old. We still use basically the same technique but we are now faster. We should do a new video, one of these days...

    I like this kind of art in comics. There is something about inks, paints and water on paper that digital colouring just cannot replicate. One can gaze at this art for hours, taking in all the details and work that was put in.

    • @ateliersento
      @ateliersento  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind words! We like the look of watercolour as well because there’s something unexpected about it: we can’t predict how it will look and we’re often surprised by the result!

    • @creativecolours2022

      I totally agree with you. Digital illustrations and comics have all the same ... digital! look. Hand made illustrations have so much more character.

    Damn this is amazing. The patience, focus, flow needed to see out a single page from the comic is really admirable.
    This is what I'd imagine a zen mindset would be like.

    Thank you for your video. I'm pretty much self-taught, which means every now and then I see a new technique that saves me a lot of time and frustration. Seeing how meticulous and patient you are makes me feel so much better. I'm always worried that I'm being wasteful with my time, the only thing you can't get back. Watching someone else do what you do is always reaffirming.

      +Tyler Blake I try to switch between both and it's still good to see artists who do it on paper but for me, i'm more comfortable with doing it on a computer (i do still draw an equal amount of paper) but i guess it's rather preference of people and it's not a bad thing that people choose to do items on a computer - Art is a large and versatile field, whatever you do - there is no right and wrong, just the different ways that people choose to do things

    • @pacificfirebrush
      @pacificfirebrush 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +InMyDreams I agree with you, digital has it's place but I've heard/read people saying they only use photoshop and can't draw on paper. I think you're doing it right, if you're going to do digital learn both. I dabbled with digital in school but I'm old fashioned and like the feel of paper etc. Plus, there's no such thing as an original with digital- I mean for collectors, museums, etc. Imagine going to an art museum that only had prints or digital screens that the artist had never touched- For me, paper and canvas are also about future generations :)

    • @rb2k196
      @rb2k196 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Blake I totally agree with you - For me, the best part around going around art museums (I absolutely adore the Tate modern in London) is seeing artwork that is there in the flesh and blood (Well not literally hahaha) - you know that there's only one of it/a limited copy of it - you know that the artist's hands made that, touched the material, put pen/paint/pencil to paper to make it - it's not something of the digital age.
      I share your view that we still need to take paper and canvas with us into the future as much as we do digital art so as to preserve methods for future generations and that we don't lose everything to technology and the digital age. To me each of them has their pro's and draw backs - with digital, you can obviously do things and effects that you may not be able to do or it would take a lot longer by hand on paper/canvas but with Paper and canvas, anyone can really do it - you don't have to get the hang of it or buy a fancy drawing tablet.

    Fantastic illustration. I really like your diy lightbox as it is similar to mine. I have turned to a lightbox a small round bamboo coffee table with a glass top and I do the exact same thing. I place a desk light under it.
    Why did you mask the edges with masking fluid instead of masking tape? Masking fluid is more expensive than tape and a bit more troublesome to apply it in such large areas.
    I would suggest to use a brush wash container that is somewhat lower and with wider rim. This bottle like container that you've used to wash your brushes look to me like an upcoming disaster. It is very easy to flip it over and splatter everything on your desk. The best type of containers to wash brushes are the pet bowls that are made in such a way that can not capsize no matter what.

    • @ateliersento
      @ateliersento  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your advice. You’re right about the masking fluid. We have stopped using it for such large areas. It wasn’t working that well… And our brush wash container too is better now. We have learned a lot during the past years… That’s the best part of making art!

    That was smart to use a lamp as a "lightbox" when tracing. Nice artwork as well! :)

      My dream is to make a comic, I tried but I have difficulty concentrating, I have struggled against this, because I love drawing since I was a child, now I'm already a little old but I love drawing and arts and this is forever.

      We used to work slowly, drawing on big pages. But we noticed it's better to make comics on small pages: now we draw on A5 pages: it's really fast and we like the result. Our advice would be to create short stories and draw them on small pages. Maybe it will be easier this way?

    Aha- masking off the whites and the gutters, that gave them a nice sharp line there.

    Vraiment un magnifique travail. Je suis d'abord tombée sur la vidéo de linogravure et TH-cam m'a nsuite suggéré celle-ci et je ne suis pas déçue! Je n'ai pas non plus de "lightbox" et du coup je me debrouille avec mon ipad, mais votre technique pourrait s'avérer utile dans certains cas! En tout cas, ça me donne envie de reprendre mes pinceaux....Tellement de techniques artistiques différente mais si peu de temps.....Je reviendrai voir plus de vidéos !

      Merci pour ton commentaire !
      Pour la table lumineuse, il y a plein d'alternatives, en effet. On avait aussi utilisé l'écran de l'ordinateur pendant un temps, comme toi avec ton ipad : ça dépanne. Depuis, on a acheté une vraie. C'est pas si cher et c'est quand même pratique.
