I wish there was a way to make Icy Manipulator playable. Tapping your opponent’s lands down (especially if you could duplicate it somehow) would be a cool prison strategy.
@@RaptorsReport If you can believe it, I've tried out Icy Manipulator in Timeless as part of a "only Alpha cards" deck. But despite many attempts, I haven't found a way to win with it lol. I agree that Icy would be fun, but it'd need to cost like 1 mana to get there. Or at least not cost any mana to activate. Maybe if we got Tangle Wire then a something like that might work?
one time harrymtg played "all stax no wincon" which involved slinging every orb and hateful artifact known to legacy and won solely on concession. a personal devious favorite.
Back in the day, Magic decks had fun and creative names like Cephalid Breakfast, The Rock, Pickles, and Tron. It got me wondering if this deck should be named "Cool Hand Luke" because of Eggs + Prison. Definitely not as descriptive lol, but would be fun to join that tradition.
@Priority Holder, I've been playing Vexing Bauble in my deck for the Show and Tell/Scam match up and it feels great. You can just sit behind it until you're ready to go off, and then crack it to draw.
Vexing Bauble is such a strong hate piece. It'd wreck this style of eggs deck since we cost reduce down to zero mana, I've also had Bauble wreck my Cascade decks lol. I've tried it a bit in a Colorless Superfriends deck of mine, but it's not at it's best there since it sometimes gets got by Chalice. Still trying to find a good deck to play it in. Where's it working for you?
@priorityholder i play it in my eggs build and it causes no issue for me at all. The absolutely worst case for it is that i play it for free and pay 1 mana to crack it. Sometimes if I have a Mystic Forge setup, I don't even care about my spells getting countered, either--I just storm off with my Reservoir and win regardless.
@@jamesloder8652 That's interesting, I didn't think about the fact that you can just cast into it to still build up Storm count, or just crack it when it's safe. I can see Bauble sometimes interfering when you go-off, like if extra Mystic Forges or draw gets countered, but maybe there's a net gain from the win percentage you pick up against Show and Tell... I'm gonna have to try that! As an Eggs player, what do you think about using Altar of the Brood as a wincon? It's just something I've been thinking about. Also, do you run any backup plan for Reservoir? Like for when the opponent sticks a Leyline of Sanctity.
@priorityholder Vexing Bauble has never really gotten in the way of going off for me. I actually can't tell you how many times I've had an opponent just cast something into a Vexing Bauble and have it countered because they didn't bother to read the card. If you're in a state where you want to free cast a lot of stuff, that usually means you're going to try and win, so it's safe enough to crack your bauble. Plus odds are pretty good that you can crack a Bauble, storm off, and then deploy another bauble before you pass the turn. Most free cast decks are only free casting on their turn. It also absolutely DESTROYS the mirror match, for what is worth, since you control when the Bauble leaves the field. I think Altar of the Brood is an interesting idea, and i like that you can drop it for free most of the time whereas Reservoir can take a big commitment to get on the board, but I'm not sure that Altar will consistently be able to mill an opponent fast enough. Your eggs will usually be drawing you through your deck just as fast as they're milling your opponent. That being said, as a 1-of against combo decks I think it could be great. Or maybe you could run a few copies and slot in Urza's Saga to make sure you get them out? I'm currently experimenting with a completely colorless version of the deck that runs Mind Stones instead of Dark Ritual, and runs Blast Zone to destroy cards like Leyline when they show up. It's also really good into Energy when they spam 1 drops.
Love seeing an Eggs deck. Would love to see a mill deck in timeless if there is one. Looking forward to seeing the Altar of the Brood version of this deck as well.
There's definitely viable mill decks in Timeless, I've got one deck I've worked on but needs updating and refinement. I've also done Eggs with a mill wincon before (Metalwork Colossus + Altar of Dementia), but really do think the Altar of the Brood route could be strong (it's 1 mana and doesn't target). My main experience playing Mill comes from Golos+Field of the Dead-era Standard. I played a Mill Control deck running 4x each of Didn't Say Please and Thought Collapse as well as Ashiok Dream Render. It actually was decent because it matched up well against the Golos decks. I would love to replicate that playstyle in Timeless, but I'm not certain it can compete.
Really like your concepts. I am constructing a Karn deck in Modern using his sideboard access like an Egg, it’s a little slow. Gonna study this deck more to see if I can speed it up. Would love your see you do a Modern deck.
Thanks! I love Karn and have thought a lot about using him in Eggs. The main issue for the cost reducer build I'm using is that Karn would usually be full retail (since he's not an Artifact), but it still might be worth it. Do you have any sweet Karn tech? I'm not sure if the Chalice version or the one-drop version would be stronger in Modern. Also, not having The One Ring anymore is tough, but I bet there's a way to make it work! I'd love to try Modern sometime, easiest thing for me would be them bringing it to Arena, but unfortunately at the pace they're going, I'm not super optimistic lol.
@ I imported your deck into arena. Took the Ring out. Put Karn and a couple other things in. Win 2 out of 3 games. There is hope. I brought a Metal Work Colossus out for free from the side board and he scooped. Would love to share my Modern build with you and see if we can speed it up. I am putting Mox Opal into it today to see if that helps.
@@Djinn-xf2kd Sounds great! Nice work! I'd kill for Mox Opal on Arena lol. Metalwork Colossus is such sweet tech. Yeah drop a link for your deck and I'll take a look.
There's also 11 filter lands and 3 Golden Eggs to cast Dark Ritual, but you are correct that Dark Ritual is not as potent in this deck as it could be. I'm fine with Dark Ritual essentially being a Rite of Flame some of the time in this deck. The reason being that the Scry/Surveil lands are just that important. It could be I've over indexed on the filter lands, but I've been satisfied in how it plays out.
Thanks, I appreciate it! I also love colorless decks! It's not out of the question that I'd play bo3, but unlikely. I can squeeze games in easier with bo1 and am enjoying it. However, I do like competitive events which are often bo3, so I'll play any of those I can. Unfortunately, the recent bo3 Timeless Metagame challenge occurred during a particularly busy time for me and I missed it. But I was starting to think about what I'd play and how to make a Sideboard. What do you like to play in bo3?
@@priorityholder Honestly I don't play Timeless, only historic, which is slightly slower (in my biased opinion). Currently I'm mostly playing a few Eldrazi decks and affinity. If you do find the time for making a sideboard, for me the games are more enjoyable, for having a second chance at unwinnable matchups. Of course, that works both ways ;-)
@@donttoywithfloris Eldrazi and Affinity are sweet! Yeah I'll probably get some bo3 games on here eventually. I don't have much practice Sideboarding though, since I primarily play ranked bo1 in Constructed and Premier Draft in Limited. Might be painful watching me mess up lol
Another banger! Is there anyways chalice plus blood moon and harbinger of seas gets there? Thinking imerious loot monger and neonate, with flare and the 2 drop blue dudes might be cool!
Thanks! I love the idea of starting with Chalice, BM, and Harbinger and I think you could make something work. Are you referring to Insolent Neonate? Just wondering, cause it gets got by Chalice. Lootmonger could be strong, it would suffer a bit if your Heist hits opponent's one-drops when you have Chalice in play, but maybe choosing one of three cards avoids that well enough? Fury would be crucial to the plan. And I'm curious about the two drop blue creatures you're referring to? I have yet to make a deck featuring the MH3 Flares, but it sounds fun!
Why not keep the one ring with more counters?? It doesn't matter if you lose more life, one all out attack from your opponent kills you no matter how much you have
Yeah you are right, I think I was just on autopilot from how I play the turns where you're going off and want to just keep chaining cards. In situations where you're not going off, it's better to just keep the Ring with a ton of counters. Good catch!
Sry to say that, but this is a pretty bad Version. Instead of Chalice play Chromatic Star and Sphere and Beseech the Mirror. Also a Channel is pretty nice.
I don't agree that it's a bad version, but it is certainly different lol. Also, sometimes I'm just trying to see what's possible and putting Chalice in an Eggs deck was such a crazy idea that I had to try it out. I think Chalice shifts some matchups (like giving more punch against Energy), but maybe it's not doing quite enough overall, I'm not sure yet. I was shocked that the speed of the deck didn't seem to suffer that much despite losing the one-drops. Beseech is a great shoutout, I haven't tried it in Eggs before, though the manabase I'm running would have to drastically be changed. And I probably should be running Channel. Good ideas!
Thanks! Yeah unfortunately that is how Arena is displayed on my screen and I'm not sure why. Sometimes Arena will update and I'll get the full battlefield, but with a black bar on top and bottom (which also doesn't look incredible, some of my vids have that view). Maybe I have an unorthodox screen size that Arena can't decide what to do with? Either way it's annoying, but I appreciate you letting me know!
Have any favorite artifact decks? I'm partial to Eggs, but I might try an Affinity deck sometime
