I would like to know, also. I saw someone say in a video that they think it's supposed to help release the built-up moisture in the instrument, but I'm not so sure how to use it for that purpose.

no they are made of plastic
The reeds are brass. I've taken my Airboard apart to wipe out excess moisture.
