The Yamaha AN1x was a brilliant instrument engine only let down by an interface that Yamaha seemed to have designed as an afterthought - I know I used to own one. I really hope that Yamaha have finally taken this vintage classic seriously this time around and built it the interface the AN1x always fully deserved.
@@petrikyto that would make a lot of sense seeing the AN1x officially was the world’s first ever virtual analogue modeller (or afaik). The original could sound incredibly deep and musical, and many comparisons rightly often made between the AN1x and the CS80 in terms of sound and dynamics. It’s just those horrible controls on the panel, so steppy and plastic feeling. Not proper high resolution encoders as would appear on other virtual synths later like the Access Virus. Andy trying to get patches to be the same volume was a lesson in pure endurance and pain. I’d love a Montage M. What a fantastic piece of kit.
I sampled mine before I sold it, I only made middle C samples though not multi samples. I still use them. Now they have software to do multisamples of your synths In those days there wasn't any.
Waiting for the day Yamaha will make separate (independent products) AN-X and FM-X synths in both hardware and software form. And i would NOT mind a VL or a FDSP either!
Can't say I'm a fan of alot of these ANX sounds, poster child 22:07 like WTF is that. There are some gems in there but they seem few and far between. I kinda wish they could focus more on AWM maybe by developing like an AWM3 because AWM is their best sounding engine by far.
It probably doesn’t bring a lot to the table if you’ve got stuff already. I wish this one had been available when I got my Montage 6 years ago though. Nice to have a good sounding VA packed in with all the other stuff
But this is $3500 so maybe compare in that range. Montage was already a killer synth. This just made it better. I don’t think there’s anything else out there for $3500 that tops it
I’m disappointed. I own the Montage M original. 16 voices for the ANX is dumb. I have a Moog One true analog with 16 voices. Come on Yamaha! I own a CS80 - the real deal. Yamaha, you need to put in 32 or 48 or 64 voices of AN1X. I can do better with the U-He VST!!!! Until I see a *real* advantage, no sale here.
@@BidobaGonduba No, it really doesn't matter who plays this thing. I'm not going to like it because it sounds bland and sterile. I'm sure your local cover band or church band will get a lot of use out of it.
So still missing the 9th fader/drawbar. Major letdown. And this sounds NOTHING like the great AN1x. I played the AN1x for years. The sounds in this video are objectively terrible.

what I heard from Yamaha is that the engine isn’t actually based on the AN1x engine, it’s a new one

The new Montage interface seems a whole lot smarter. There's a loopop video.

@@tomfenn7149I've always wanted to try an AN1X. The VL1/VP1 were early 90s though BTW, just different flavors of VA

Loved the reface Cs I would honestly take that in a bigger ui
😌🙏
@@kiko1935 the CK61 was supposed to be all reface engines in one
Too bad that Yamaha didn't include the AN-X engine on MODX units or made a new dedicated VA synth as Roland and Korg made did it.
At one point that sounded like a Korg Sigma. But for £5000 you expect it to do everything.
At that price I’d expect a reach around 😂

quite the variety of sounds. Looking at the sliders, they change color thoughout the video- blue, turquoise, green, yellow. How's that done?!

Where is a demo of the new Yamaha 61 keyboard that you can actually carry around and gig with??? My wallet is over flowing and I want a new keyboard.
Did that one last NAMM. The CK? Nice keyboard. Look for it i under 2023 NAMM

same old sounds...
Don’t be lazy. Program your own.
So sterile and bland. It's been a long time since Yamaha did anything interesting. They're strictly for church bands and local cover bands these days.
Far from bland. It seems you don’t have the proper skills and then blame the tool…a bad carpenter blames his tools.

Tbf Yamaha isn't known for there insane factory presets - seems like this synth engine is begging for the user to explore on their own.
