I, too, really miss the online multiplayer of past games. In world, no one really cares about or hangs with other hunters, nobody is in the lobby, and everyone just does SOS flares. I miss just hopping into a lobby and being like, "well this is my hunter family for the next couple of hours". I made so many friends that way.
With the exception of KT runs I've yet to go on consecutive quests with a team of players, everyone is one-and-done. In the classic games I'd play hours with the same team, each of us rotating quests, chatting and having fun. It's strange that MHW is the most connected game in the franchise yet the least personable.
I really don't like how everyone always disbands. Even when playing with friends they automatically put the disband option and I have to tell them to stay in order to continue. I get that people may want to go back for the farm or maybe to craft something but every single hunt people just disband. Very rarely 1 or 2 randoms will stick around.
@@Walamonga1313 Its actually soooooooooo much quicker when grinding quests to return to the base-camp as the load times are dramatically reduced, yet everyone still rushes back to Astera 😓😓 Oh, I also quick chat "I'm posting a quest" "I'm posting a quest" "I'm posting a quest" and very rarely sometimes one person will receive the hint and stay.
@@tzera_rhuon Exactly! That's my main reasoning for staying lol Less time loading=more time playing! Do you play on PC or console? Because I've seen PC load pretty damn fast compared to consoles.
@@burlyfoil1022 Actually, I find people coming in and attacking redditors and the like are often the ones putting words in people's mouths. This swings both ways. @@TheUltimateBlooper For you perhaps its the best version but its definitely not perfect. Basically no story, stupid requirement that only the person hosting a deviant quest gets the clear takes away points for most people. For me I gave up on MHGU as soon as I got the big deviant crown. Also in regards to armor, the John Cena set and Atlal Ka set is enough to literally get you through every quest, so there isn't much incentive to build other stuff.
Anyone who played the classics or at least MH4U know of the legend ZANTHOR? That dude was always hopping into people's lobbies and was just a bro. If you're out there bro and playing MHW, I'd love to hunt with you again. I remember a time this dude went in with a sword and shield naked to fight Fatalis alone and came back triumphant when I went afk in my lobby. Like what!?!?! He was such a great player.
i had a friend like this named Izaiah. Izaiah if ur out there, Miles wants to say thank you for helping me gets my first full Rajang, Tigrex, Kushala, and Teostra full set! thanks for being a good friend.
Oh man. I really want to remember this guy. I'm not sure if we ever hunted together. I just remember the age of Star Armor. Everyone used it with the IG, and it was just constant mounts. Oh man, 4U was the greatest MH experience I've had to date.
The goofy humor is probably the thing I miss the most from older games: I loved interacting with NPCs, even if they were just passers-by and didn't have any kind of business with me, just because I was wondering what kind of personality they had or what silly joke they were about to hit me with. Except for a few of the most important ones, talking with NPCs in World is always the same T.T
The housekeeper line about the dung in your chest got me good. It's a fair point even in world. Who tf keep potions, pills and a fresh dung in the same storage box?
As a user of almost any blade master weaponI can say that this is 100% accurate when gunners join your lobby. I have have one thing to mention... Gaijin’s Seregios LBG set I tried that thing out, and saw it could rapid fire Slicing S. For me, BOY DID IT CUT OFF THAT TAIL FAST. You’re welcome gunners, you can now cut of tails without a blade master :3
Dude they legitimately were life-changing for me... Gaijin Hunter explaining the intricacies of MH opened up a whole new world for me and made my experience with MH that much more deep and expansive.
The One Matthew Vang same here. Never knew I would get all the good insect glaives, lances, and gunlances. If I didn’t watch him, I would eventually get it but not without spending a million zenny. This dude was my hero back then. Would never be able to hangout with some people across the world (yes they were higher than me when I joined em. They were G2 already when I joined they’re party) if it wasn’t for gaijinhunter. Like seriously. I was able to catch up to em in 1 week time. I sometimes come back to mh4u for one quick hunt before my 3ds just suddenly shuts down. (Was 13 back then and never gave a fu~ about my gadgets, thus the very short lifespan of my 3ds) mhw is so different from the classic. No one gives a fu~ about parties. They’ll just come for a quick hunt and then leave. Was disappointed by this, so I had to solo my way to the end.
The thing I miss the most is the variety in weapon design. I also did not really like that the bone tree is generally the best for low rank, as I like having a reason to use different weapons in different situations.
I habent played World, but if its anything like the other games, the bone tree should (at least early on) have better power, but comparatively poor sharpness
MH World - "Here's a sword!" Player: "Oh sweet nice!" MH World - "Here's the sword but with a feather." Player: "Oh... neat." MH World - "Here's the sword but with a spike AND a feather cos late game." Player: "Are you kidding me?" That's the issue I have with World, weapons and armour look like underwhelming trash til the end game. But even then those weapon/armour designs are on par with high rank/low rank gear in the classic games.
@rusty banana Each weapon and armour piece is made to stand out more even with the pixel count. I get that everything is kinda made to blend in with the realistic aesthetic so mixed sets look less ridiculous but overall I feel it made everything suffer as a result. Cos it blends in so much that nothing looks exciting til the end game.
je suis monte!! i really miss m4u, that feeling when i was alone at hub and couldn't defeat tigrex solo because of shit armor, suddenly came a hunter from higher rank said, "hi, can i help you hunting some monster? What do you need?". SOS flare cannot replace that.
There's something about looking through the lobbies, and seeing one named "turns" with 3/4 people in it. You know you're going to have a good time. I'm actually going back to GU recently (albeit to do a lot of Dreadking farming...) and it reminded me how much I missed those types of lobbies.
@@Vulgarth1 it doesnt. You get 3 other people hoping for a carry with no interaction between each other. They feel like npc summons in dark souls and are gone at the end. I stopped using sos week 2 of pc release because I realized it's just awful. I still hop on mh3u and mh4u from time to time and check out the public lobbies and say hi to new players. There are still a lot of new faces that play those old games, usually hand me downs or people who aren't fortunate enough to have a gaming pc and only have an old ds. It's cute interacting like that, I've never gotten that in world. Everybody is silent and only there for the quick hunt.
appart from weapon design what I miss most is the viability of elements/status of the old games, to me it felt like part of the reason you had a grocery list at all was that you wanted to make a SnS paralyze set, or a SA Poison set, not just a "this is my bog standard phys set I will use for 11/14 weapons"
It also work for the armor With some friend we have farm the kirin with armor stat betewn -12 and -16 to lightning just fine (two of us where new to MH) Or just take any weapon to kill a mob no probleme to take lunastra a with a fire weapon
Non-Elemental Boost is the main culprit, and to a lesser extent crit meta (which is strongest in World because of the amount of armor skills that you can have, crit boost, and the redesigned weakness exploit).
Element is fine, it just works way better for some weapons/monsters than others because of how damage is calculated. It kinda always has been that way too. I'd kinda agree with status, it sucks apart from monsters super weak to it, which are usually the smaller/easier hunts anyways. Especially poison, it's god awful in World and doesn't even have the Kushala niche anymore. It wasn't even worth building a crit status set until AT Zorah released unless you used blast because it's stuck on his set, which wasn't really that great to begin with. Pink rath's set bonus is also pretty weak. With the way things are going (ancient leshen, tempered behemoth) I doubt it'll get any better in general, sadly.
Dave Chrome well actually non element boost doesn’t really cause a problem so much as it avoids one. The only weapons that make use of it are the weapon types that are the worst for elements. An elemental great sword will literally never be stronger than an elemental bow. The mh games have always been this way. The lack of status builds has more to do with community perception than actual viability. Aside from blast and poison para and sleep are incredibly strong but ask you to lose personal dps in exchange for guaranteed party damage. Poison could easily be fixed by letting it build up the next proc while the current one is active to allow for chain procs. It does good damage otherwise averaging about 10 or more ticks of 20 for free regardless of monster movement. Element less will never go away and can’t be fixed because it’s the only think keeping the slow weapons viable now that the fast weapons are more accessible and powerful than ever. Blast should be given its old part break properties back and call it a day. Build diversity in this game has actually been just as great if not greater than ever before. But with increased visibility and popularity comes a desire to be more effective and efficient than the masses that surround you. If classic mh possessed or obtains the same mass appeal the result will be the same. People will run to the highest numbers and ignore all else. If you want a status build then run it. If you want an element build make one. The random bullshit we have always cooked up has never been the best and we all know it. So why does it matter that someone did the math and told us that status builds aren’t as good?
@@Goldfire345 There's no pause in Monster Hunter World at all, even on town areas. The only thing that is close to "pausing" the game is the expedition log where it tells you what rewards you got from that quest.
@@namelessjuan4696 ugh I remember at one point I wanted to try world now not so much not being able to pause when hunts are on a timer when you need to take a break when playing solo which is how i play most of the time deal breaker Honestly I can't remember a game that didn't have pause in this series since mh freedom
While I get what you mean by "don't take this as criticism", it absolutely is criticism. Criticism doesn't have to be bad, and I agree with every point you have here. Critique is only bad if you don't explain the reasons why, or provide answers for what you would change. My biggest criticisms of world are the multiplayer balance, decoration farming, and event structure. There's a few other things, like investigations feeling like a needlesly bloated system, the lobby feeling desolate without the gathering hall like it used to work, and gear designs being really uninspired. I also think arch tempered is a copout. I hope they rework endgame in iceborne, but I like a lot of what you said here. Keep at it man. You make great content!
What i didn't like about World was monster variety and weapon designs. I mostly palyed the games on single player so i don't really mind the online aspects that much.
Yeah the tempered monster crap is really a bad concept to me as well. Especially since in the other games there was at least a reason attacks did more damage, but tempered monsters have just extra damage. There is no new moves, their health bar is still the same, and it's just really bland.
@@mrm0nty550 most of the entries of a new generation had about the same spread of monsters, like Monster Hunter Tri. This one also has a completely new engine on top of that, so I'm not as critical of that
I'm aware. It's just that Monster Hunter Tri and 4 at least had more varied designs when reusing monster skeletons ( idk if that's real, but it's the best way i could express "monsters that move the same"), World's monsters got repetitive for me way faster than Tri, 4 or FU.
My heart will always be with Moga Village. My headcannon is always that my Hunter is the one From Tri Ultimate, always returning to his beloved village
That's awesome! 3U was my first Monster Hunter, but I ended up making the jump to 4U pretty soon after. Personally, I will always thing of myself as the Caravan Hunter off to help the Fifth Fleet. "YOU'RE THE ONE TO GET IT DONE!"
I will never forget my greatest monster hunter moment! It was a while back, in Mh4u. I believe it was the quest to get the hero’s sword, but I know it was against the Akantor. I was severely underprepared to fight this thing, to say the least. After it unleashed several cans of whoop ass on me, I learned that preparation was key. I had to take the time to learn the layout of its arena-thing, make a weapon it was weak to (I think it was a gore Magala hammer) and craft armor out of the azure Rathalos. I went back in, ready for the fight. After a long and hard battle, I was losing on all fronts. My cats were dead, I was running out of time, and I was out of healing items. A few minutes later, I was screwed. I had the tiniest sliver of health left, I was on fire, I had around 6 seconds left (not exaggerating) on the clock, and the damned Akantor was charging at me. I remember actually wondering what would kill me first. In an instant, the clock was down to two seconds (I should mention I opened quest info a lot) the fire had taken just about the last bit of green on my health bar, and the Akantor was right on top of me, raising his claw. As one last **** you, I swung my hammer before he or the fire claimed my life. Quest complete. Needless to say, that was my best monster hunter moment before or since. If I had a highlight reel, that would be at the top
If I remember correctly, the event quest was called _"Fire Fight"._ How do I remember? I also did that quest with two carts, no items left, and 50ish seconds on the clock XD 4U was something else man...
Hey man I had a similar thing with I think it's called the caravanners challenge on mh4u, not sure but it was a Savage jho in arena, last 5 seconds like you, hardly any hp, he came at me, did a jump attack on his head quest complete.. Was amazing lol
Quite similiar thing happened to me in MH2dos, was hunting low rank khezu using HBG. I'm out of all ammo i brought except the infinite lv1 normal and the timer was less than 30s. Not giving up, I fired my pea shooter like mad and the beast finally fell at 3s left. Still amaze myself to this day.
I love the environment focus, I just feel like it's a type of focus that demands more evironment variety. The thing I miss the most in MHW is the bright colors, gear variety and the sillyness. I miss the sillyness a lot.
there were plenty of environmental shenans to deal with already, honestly, just have the monster visit more varied locations if remembering behaviors isn't even such a big deal anymore because of GPS system.
When I started playing World, I had a blast, but the more I played it, the less I liked it. With the older games it was the opposite: At first you didn't know what the heck you're doing, but that made you learn and progress, which was a big part of these games for me.
It you look closely its still there, but particle effects like dust or scales flying off get in the way of the blood. We all want those big juicy slashes back... should be an option to turn on in the settings.
We got simple sets like the Tzitzi Ya Ku, Odogaron, and Tobi Kadachi sets, more visually out there sets like Nergigante, Kulve Taroth and Xeno Jiiva sets, goofy stuff like the Kulu and Wiggler helmets, a mix of everything in the returning armour department, there’s something visually for everyone. Say what you will about the weapon designs, but they certainly didn’t skimp out on the armours. Hell, the Odogaron and Kulve Taroth sets have become two of my favourite armour designs in the series, Odogaron’s my second favourite male set, Kulve Taroth my fifth favourite on the male, second favourite on the female.
The weapons are just my biggest gripe honestly. Just want them to look so flashy and cool. It doesn’t have to be “realistic” since it’s just a fantasy game.
what weirds me out the most is that the armors are all good and MH-like. so, they either got lazy, they saved designs for g-rank, or it's actually the "appeal westerners theory" thing, but only for the weapons... (like wut)
Silliness. I miss it so much. Being able to laugh with your friends about a hammer that looks like a drill, teasing your bud about the armor set he’s wearing because it looks silly (I’m talking about female Gammoth), the colors, the weapon design, there’s was a hunting horn that was literally a spoon! I haven’t gotten Iceborne yet and have been avoiding info on it, but I really hope they fix this, especially the weapon designs.
The goofy feeling and the cheerful sense incorporated in the game. So that's what I'm feeling lost in MHW. That feeling when you're in town, it calms you down cause you see NPCs saying " Hi " and the colorful background that eases the strain on your eyes. All of those but when you start to hunt again, everything is normal from the start but with the odd feeling of mixed excitement and horror while all of your teammates are coming over to the monster's area. Some teammates even lightens up the mood by sending funny preset chats and when you get to the area you suddenly feel the " Game On " attitude kicking in. You forget all the light heartedness feeling earlier and you get to focus on the hunt like fighting a boss monster.
For me I still play GU because of Valstrax. He's become my favorite flagship, Elder Dragon and monster in general. I really hope he's the fan favorite they plan to add in May.
@@firetools I'm not sure if they'll add him cause well he's too "anime" as much as he would be dope to have. My bet right now is that it's legi. Monster Hunter tri and 3u were pretty big for the franchise and while there won't be underwater bits I'm sure with moveset changes they can compensate for the lack of underwater.
@@blackfireoffire After the Variants trailer? Yeah, nothing is "too anime" for World now. And actually Lagi can't be in World because Capcom has said in previous interviews that they still couldn't get the Leviathan skeleton to work. Lagi was supposed to be in the base game.
I think it’s the same feeling people tend to get with any older style games. There’s something satisfying about simplicity that most modern games forego for what you correctly point out as “initial awe”. Acclimating to the detail in a game means the more time spent in the setting makes it a backdrop. I see the same kind of stuff with say the difference between Mario 64 versus Mario Odyssey. Both great games, but I still prefer 64 for some reason. That being said, I’m not really sure I understand some of the differences you pointed out. Specifically the armor and item significance. I like you take though.
Problem is realy finding anyone willing to play or any free room really. I gave up on GenU because literally nobody would do anything other than HL stuff kicking you if you were inexperienced so you'd have to solo every deviant dozens of times before going online and people not ignoring you. And god knows I've never seen people actually kicking other people's out THAT MUCH in any other MH game.
@@collesque5045 I tried to, but it's either empty or close-knit-communities where it's hard to get a foot into. Even the MH subreddit's discord is a tough nut to crack I found. I'll just play with randoms over and over again doing random quests I guess.
I think you’re forgetting something, classic Monster Hunter can never be replaced or tossed out. They’ve made too many assets for it already, and you bet whatever they can reuse they will.
I have to agree. Capcom are pretty scummy but they know Monster Hunter handheld titles keep them afloat in Japan. They're going to keep pumping out MH games with the same assets until they can't anymore and I'm just fine with that.
"Items mattered more" I'm feeling that right now with Rise :( Love the game but I can remember needing to go out on gathering missions just to keep my supply of flash bombs or mega potions up. Now I think I've crafted about 3 times in the 80 hours I've played. Ancient/Max potions are pointless now, everything requires less materials anyway.
Don't know how it worked it for you, but imo there are other reasons to go out gathering on the expeditions in rise. There are so many secret areas, with better mining spots and good views, finding the 10 relics per level, you need a lot of points and money, which can be gotten with the items that give you money, especially when they are on bonus. For me the gathering and exploring aspect of mh rise is much better than 4ult, the other game i have played a lot.
Dude legit just replace the 16 player rooms with the gathering hub. Or something. I just want it to be worth using instead of feeling like I'm playing with A.I. or a team of silent protagonists.
I can't relate to the multiplayer feelings at all. I started on PSP and PSP had no online function whatsoever. So unless you ran into the only other 2.5 people in the west who owned a PSP and this obscure japanese game, you had to play solo. Same for the 3DS. Ultimate 3 didn't have online and when Ultimate 4 came out with online, the nintendo netcode was so unbelievably bad and shitty, I just played solo after all the 20-minute-hunts failing because of connection errors. Technical issues aside, I also didn't like the players I encountered very much. When I went online to grab some low-rank materials while wanting to do some jolly coop, everytime so fuck in G-rank armor would join in and kill the thing in one-hit. That wasn't fun, it fucking sucks. I never talked to anyone in any gathering hall ever and Monster Hunter World is the first game I ever played with anyone else over the internet, so I cannot even comprehend what you people are talking about. I never felt any "hunter family" or "clan hunt honors" because it flat out never existed for me. Can't miss what I never had. SOS was a blessing, because at least someone plays with me now.
This is all I want honestly. I don't really care about the nostalgic qualities of old MH games. World went in a good direction, and I honestly wouldn't want the franchise to backpedal. However, lobbies are SO much better than online sessions. The mere fact that you can't even select an option to play offline or in "single-player mode" infuriates me lick crazy.
Ron Rushford Of course you can play offline, but there’s no actual option to turn on an “offline mode” from what I’ve gathered. Closest thing is making a private online session.
Also more monsters crossing maps and areas. My biggest complaint regarding that is Coral Highlands - you have 4 local monsters (Tzitzi, Paolumu, Legiana, Kirin; all of them exclusively in the Highlands) and 2 extras (Odo, Pink Rath) and you fight all of them in basically 2 to 4 out of 15 areas and it's the same 2 to 4 areas for all of the 6 monsters. I don't even recognize any of the other areas because I never see them even though there are some damn beautiful places. I would love to fight in this large cave with the many mining spots or the deeper coral-jungle like area that you sometimes spawn in in high rank next to a dung spot and some angler fish endemic life.
@@lagideath This. MHW even introduces the concept in High Rank, then seems to abandon it. It's only a couple monsters in each zone that sometimes move. I think I've seen Anjanath in Wildspire 3 times in 150 hours. Bazelgeuse is the only free monster, and he's in missions so much that people start to hate him.
Agreed. I'm new to the series and love World, and honestly can't really work my way into enjoying the older games quite as much (the vibrancy of World's area design helps it a lot in my eyes), but the monster variety is *highly* lacking in World. I really do appreciate when I find monsters behaving and interacting in new ways, but these interactions are too few and often too simple to carry the game despite its low monster count. That and the rather generic weapon models are what I'd want to see changed.
I would love to have an MH4U remastered or MH3U remastered. But i would prefere MH4U remastered because we´ve got an MH3U "HD" version but MH4U is just on the 3ds. A MH4U remastered version would be so cool. All those epic cutscenes and monsters like Dalamadur or Gogmazios in HD :D.
MH4U and MH3U on the Switch would be boss, the controls would feel more fluid plus they could take the opportunity to add even more monsters to MH3U like Tigrex and Brute Tigrex or even Kirin or Lunastra.
I miss having the pause button during solo hunts, especially when I have to attend to something else urgently e.g. phonecall while a monster is preparing to chew me alive.
I feel like the solo-friendly aspect really works for me at least. I mostly like to play solo and I would not have put as many hours in as I have if they had a lazer focus on playing with others. Those are just my two cents though
Solo is also a fantastic way of teaching players how the fight can go and a great way to experiment with that works rather than just dying and ruining the hunt for other players
@@fedovang885 A lot of people didn't like it and it's understandable why, my personal opinion is I enjoyed a lot of it with Gunner classes and few Blademaster classes, the underwater sections were not designed well for close range melee combat which is why they got a bad reputation, as much as I love them it's totally understandable why they haven't come back and possibly won't come back; It's just not possible to perfect near 6 degree melee combat in a lot of hunting scenarios, maybe *now* they can try to experiment with it now that World has broken a lot of the stereotypes Monster Hunter has become known for but who knows
I heard too that gaijinhunter is one of the "i hate modern MH" type of guys. But seeing that video and also having casually played the older parts (always needed help so I didn't play alone..) I quite get what you mean. There was a sensation in those people who helped me play and enter the world of Monster Hunter, which I adored for those persons. MHW brought us on some sort of even ground and now since I understood more of the concept of MH and those Quality of Life changes helped me access the game more, I too wish that the "old MH" comes back in form of the new one..
For me monster Hunter was both a parts grind and a hunt for fun depended on the monster, with the old games you could choose between the two, the new one seems to be more RNG and less teamwork part farming dependent
Its odd how games can look as realistic as the ones today yet we play them a couple of hours and forget them, back then graphics may be blocky or pixelated but we played those games for months, years even. Just goes to show gameplay over graphics.
That has nothing to do one thing with another, world overall design was changed and hurts it longevity. If you get the same game but give the opportunity to pick classic ps2 graphics or world graphics i will pick world in heart beat.
@@fleeplayTV Keep in mind that the graphics now compared to then take much longer to develop. _Monster Hunter World_ with PS2 graphics would end up with far more content. In fact, this is basically _the_ reason _Generations_ and such were able to have so much content, more unique weapons and armor, etc. It's not that a game with longevity can't be made, but that it's far more difficult to do if you're pumping resources into graphics.
Guys, I believe that what the original author of the comment was trying to state is the fact that they believe a game which other qualities are balanced out but which gameplay is more enjoyable can outperform a game which other qualities are balanced out while visual presentation is more prominent.
Randy Harry I mean, there are things you can do that can aim to please everybody. Things like refining the multiplayer system more, having new endgame stuff, etc. Not every complaint is unsolvable. But overall, it's indeed true that you can't make a perfect game for everybody.
This guy is a long time fan of the franchise and those are the ones who they should be trying to please if any. It would be different if I jumped into monster hunter world and gave some critique like this because I have never played a monster hunter game in my life. Then yeah you can say you can't please everybody. However, when someone who is a long time fan of the franchise chimes in and has a few nit picks. Those are probably fair points and things that can in fact be improved in a later release or update.
@@steveng4383 That depends. I know many long-time fans of the franchise that are against making the game more accessible due to an elitist, and frankly stupid, mentality. Capcom should not aim to please those people.
I missed how in older mh items and skills are more vital. There are some monster that would be really difficult to hunt without proper preparation. For example, when you want to hunt cephadrome or plesi you need sonic bomb, against blos you need earplug to avoid deadly combos, against kushala wind resist skill will make life a lot easier, etc. In mhw, i just need one armor set with attack and crit. There is no monster that would punished you hardly for lack of preparation.
Nofan Felani MHW is just too easy. The hunter feels insanely powerful while the monsters feel underpowered. Even in MHGU the hunter felt pretty strong with arts and styles, but in MHW they dialed it up to 11. With a full crit set and a spread HBG (Not even necessarily Taroth Glutton) you can kill ANY MONSTER in less than 4-5 minutes solo. With some High Rank Tempered monsters dying in less than TWO MINUTES. Why can i do that? I am by no means considered a good player either.
I agree with most of your opinions. The ones I don't , I understand your views. I love the arts in generations. And want the difficulty back. Plus it became elder Dragon hunter world.
i just finished maxing every charm in the base game (not iceborn) and yeah: the amount of elder gems you need is insane, and dont forget augments. You need gems for charms that dont make sens. Why the ... do you need a teo gem for a para charm ? Kiri would make more sens but it has no gem.
the one in quite a pickle so to speak The hub sucked back then! People kick you out directly after you join the hub, you have to search for hours until you find a room that fits to you.
2:20 Ah~ Molten Tigrex, the blast cousin of Tigrex. Remember farming him a lot for one of my endgame hunts back in 4U. Getting his ultra rare drop took me weeks to complete the full armor set. Fun times.
It really says a lot about how good the monhun devs are at their jobs, and at reading what the community wants. They seem pretty aware that world was an extremely good step in the right direction, but it left a lot of fans wanting. And hence, Rise!
When I saw u can mid quest restock in rise , I cri, I have awesome memories of running out of potions even after bringing blue mushrooms herbs and honey and defying all odds playing carefully on 1 health last life running out of whetstones and winning with seconds of the quest left .. hah good times

I broke three psps, one not being my fault, playing the old games, but my hand hurt after every quest on the psp MHs cuz of the lack of a second analog stick.
I actually loved it. It makes me feel like fighting monsters like Lagiacrus on their own turf, where I'm at a disadvantage, and adds an additional thrill to the David vs. Goliath-feeling that makes MH so unique. I also consider the Flooded Forest one of my favourite maps for how murky it is.

At least in most areas, since it's spacious and not a lot of things going on. The endemic life usage is used in between hunts as preparation.
Okay, I appreciate that you played on your friend's switch for a day, but I literally have over 100 hours in Rise so far (which isn't even close to my record for an MH game), and I can assure you Rise is pretty much World 2. Your mentioning endemic life having more impact actually supports my stance better than yours, as the games didn't have endemic life until World. You can also still visit your item box at any time, completely negating any consequence of resource management or loadouts.
@@krizzle4rizz I played both games extensively and I can say that Rise is World gameplay (the movement, and maps, QoL changes with gathering and consumables, damage numbers) with Generations mechanics (4 man lobbies, arena style fights, separate hub and village, customizable movesets, melding etc.) Which is honestly the best combination for me. To each their own and there’s no need to argue over it imo.
@@mikaeldp Nobody's really arguing and nobody's saying "you are wrong for prefering X over Y". It's just a bit delusional to describe Rise as resembling anything before World to nearly every degree.
@@fabiboiii no real end game? you mean like every mon hunter without g-rank? but better and smoother in every aspect of game design? pretty sure monhunter world+iceborne embarrasses previous mon hunter games. well c i guess.
@@flamingmanure im not downvoting the game, don't get me wrong Iceborne looks so promising in terms of player feedback, they surely implement something to keep grinders engaged
Every single thing you said is exactly why I still haven't touched World/Iceborne yet (besides the fact that I don't have a PS4 and that I prefer to play games handheld). When World first released, I kept hearing complaints from old timers saying "This game is too easy!", and that was a BAD sign, because you are supposed to SUFFER in a Monster Hunter game! No flexing pose? Geez, come on! One of my Twitter friends started playing World recently (her first ever Monster Hunter experience), so at first I was rubbing my hands thinking "Ohhh, let's see you struggle. The beautiful, beautiful struggling. Harr harr harr", but then a few days later she's breezing through it. WTF?????? When Iceborne was announced, I was very excited about it because now the game is gonna get a lot harder, but once released, I hear people complaining again: "The fucking clutch claaaaawwww arrrggghhh!", so I Googled what the heck this clutch claw thingumajig was, and daaaayyuuuuummm, that's an asspull. I just HATE it when games force you to do stuff. I'm a super-casual player. Even if I suck, I just do things MY WAY to have fun. Isn't that the whole point of a game? But no, the clutch claw system strips you of your freedom to choose how to play - the freedom to have fun YOUR WAY. And that genuinely pissed me off. And also my second biggest gripe with World/Iceborne: I. PREFER. MY. MONSTER. HUNTER. GAMES. SILLY. AND. STUPID. Why the heck am I not allowed to go into battle wielding a shark or a slice of pizza?????? WHRE. THE. HECK. IS. THE. FLEX????????? UGH. Collecting ridiculous-looking weapons and aromour is so much fun! It was a major MAJOR dissappointment when people playing World were complaining about boring looking weapons. Like nooooooo. Now that Rise has been announced, I doubt that I'll play World/Iceborne. From the previews it seems to be an excellent mix of both the old world style and World style. I am SO excited about it. (:
gotta say i've played unite for ages but not any other MH games except tri cause i didnt have a switch pc or 3ds and i was so hyped for world but im 400hrs in and i just dont play at all i totally agree with gajin
I agree with everything you said. I prefer the classic monster hunter style of gameplay over the 5th gen style. I've played GU, 3u, 4u, rise sunbreak, stories 1&2, tri and generations. I loved my time in all these. I didn't like the grind of investigations to get to lv 300 because it was a chore and I maxed out all the sets I made(22?) by lv 260. Risen elder dragons were the only real options to gain significant amounts of points at that level. I'll probably play world iceborne before wilds comes out but all the negatives I've heard about it since its debut have held me back. It sits on my shelf for now.
I agree with the satisfaction point, I still remember my first attempts at Tigrex and Khezu in MhFu, where both (especially Khezu) took multiple days to do, but I felt like it was still possible throughout the entire experience. And when I finally beat them, I felt an elation unparalleled in anything else I've done in a while. Meanwhile in World, I never really felt anything like that, even through my literally 500+ hours in that game. Plus, there was also this weird tribal aesthetic (that sounds rude, but I don't have the vocabulary to say it differently) that it felt like World completely eradicated. (Not really, but you just didn't see it as much as in say 4u).
I agree in a lot of ways, but I personally prefer world. I of course agree with the weapon designs, the items in camps and somewhat with the multiplayer. I do agree that world is lacking the more personal feeling, I do not want to spend an eternity looking for a lobby or waiting for people to join mine ever again. I do also think that classic monster hunter has a certain charm and feeling to a hunt that world can't completely replicate. but, I do prefer the maps of world. I feel like they have more purpose in gameplay and are less boring to walk through. I also feel like I can make strategies based on where I am in world more often. if I'm in a zone with healing things, I can use those in an emergency, or if there's somewhere with a kickoff point, I can use that. I also feel like this happens a lot more with monsters too. although monsters in older games had the occasional zone specific attack, or zone specific behavior, this was never used much. it's much more touched upon in world with. there are also a few more hazards to look out for that were slightly more uncommon in previous games. I also prefer the armor in monster hunter world. you may feel more motivation to make new sets in classic monster hunter, I feel more motivation to make new sets in world. here's why. making your own mixed sets is much more fun and much easier in world than the old games. in general, you can just experiment much more with armor. these things is why I return to world more than generations ultimate. I love making multiple sets in world, some of my own, some from other people, some based on other sets but with my own personal touch. I've got a set for many weapons in world, even ones that I don't use, because it's just fun to come up with something that would mix with my playstyle. doing this is very difficult in classic monster hunter, wich is why I usually make a general set that works for all of my weapons. I don't want to make new sets because coming up with your own isn't fun, and when I'm done making it, I don't see a reason to make another, unlike world. but luckily, it does seem that the portable team is going to continue making games too, so I think it's likely that we're going to see the main team working on more world style games while the portable team will probably make more classic style games, so there will probably be something for everyone.
I agree with you. I feel as if nostalgia is coloring gaijin's opinion a bit more than he might like to admit. There a lot of objectively terrible things about 'classic monster hunter' like the lobby system; having to wait for a room to help fight the monster you want wasn't a lot of fun and was just plain impractical for many western player. People rag on tempered as lazy artificial difficulty (and they are correct) but apex was even worse. A lot of the weapon mechanics were even less interesting in older games. Ironically, world takes several implements from the styles in Generations and mixes them into the weapons such as the air spinning hammer. They should continue on that front and re-introduce oils for sword and shield (balance it obviously) and take the ability to encore on the move for Hunting Horn from Monster Hunter Online. Generations also goes way overboard with the 'grinding' aspect of MH. The deviant system is absolutely horrid and nonsensical. The lvl. 140 stuff was just pointless to me. Having multiple monsters in an arena is stupid as they never interact. So the game was one-dimensional in regards to their behavior. I don't see why going back to hunting monsters as just arena bosses would be a good thing. I personally hated how most monsters were so one-dimensional and despite being in the same area would completely ignore each other and any damage that happened to be to one another was accidental and minor. Somehow we have even monsters that are predator and prey of another only having tunnel vision for me, the player. It was something that always bothered me and I'm glad World made monster interactions a thing. I also agree I prefer weapon skills in World. Negative skills was always incredibly stupid in older games and despite what gaijin says, effective armor selection was ultimately decreased despite there being far more monsters. World's armors are less interesting to look at, true but there are more viable parts to mix and match here. Many of my current sets barely use any parts from Drachen if you can believe it (will share if anyone is interested). I do prefer the brighter and more colorful design of older games. World environments are mechanically sound but not visually appealing. So I do agree with Gaijin we need a return to that. Or take notes from Monster Hunter Online, which has more serious tone in line with world but nonetheless more interesting. Same with armor and weapons. I like how they are handled in game but they are so disappointing to look at. And for fuck's sake less us make our own layered armor. No more of this having to get tickets as a hidden way of trickling out content to players as an method of artificial longevity. The same applies to event quests. The devs seem to recognize the endgame for world is rather weak and so they did this as way of making the game seem more active than it is. Nowadays I admit I only hop on world to the limited bounty each week and that is it.
@@Ergeniz I personally don't mind the de-saturated colour palet that much, but if it bothers many players, it should be changed. I personally think the endgame of world is good in what you do, but there aren't enough endgame monsters. I personally disliked the endgame of generations because nothing kept you coming back, but world having decorations and augmentations kept me coming back for a while until I got the ones I wanted. tempered monsters in general aren't as bad as some people would say in my opinion. it's basically frenzied or hyper monsters, but less interesting. it's a way to fight weaker monsters at a higher level.
@@Pascll Tempered monsters don't bother me. While their difficulty is artificial in the sense its just bloated attack power (or in the case of arch tempered, bloated HP, attack and few new moves), its something I don't mind because tempered investigations have an point to them in that you get streamstones, decos as opposed to being focused on parts. I found frenzied and hyper monsters to just be aggravating for no good reason. An more realistic colored pallete is fine but World seems drab in its execution most of the time. The only area that opened my eyes a bit was the lava caverns in elder's recess. As I mentioned before, Monster Hunter Online does the idea better. Here are some of the areas; contrast them with Monster Hunter World: monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Dawnwind_Valley monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Hermit_Forest monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Thunderous_Sands monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Esther_Lake monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Ghost_Rune_Volcanoes monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Arena_(MHO) When I say the endgame is weak in MHW, I mean not from lack of a defined goal. Even now, I could use several streamstones and I want to have all my various sets completely augmented for maximum defense...but there is no NEED to do so now that I have taken down everything in the current game. And what this means is that MHW lacks one thing the older games have and could easily deliver: more monsters. I am tired of farming the same elder dragons over and over for streamstones. Several of them like Lunastra are not even enjoyable. This is not inherently world's 'fault', as like every vanilla release it lacks monsters and the bells/whistles the expansions tend to bring. So I'm not a detractor, but at the same time I wish they would have waited a bit longer until they did things like fixed the skeleton for amphibians and had mammal monsters. There are waaaay too many wyverns and reptilian monsters in world. Way too many. It leaves you with the impression of 'sameness', and it was something that took away when I first started the game.
Starting from 4th Gen, the series undeniably have mistakes for each game; 4U: Guild Quests, Apex Monsters, Divine Armor Spheres Gen/GenU: Poor difficulty balance, no Subspecies, Hyper Monsters, Deviants Quest system World: Poor difficulty balance, poor weapons design, Arch-Tempered Elder Dragons, a nerf or outright ruin certain returning monsters, poorly designed gimmicky collaboration monsters, multiplayer makes everything harder, not easier, timed Event Quests, Stuns, Temors, Roars, and Windpress made broken. Then again, some of these mistakes could be fixed by a few re-adjustments.
@@Ergeniz I don't need proof that world has a less colourful colour palet, I know it, but it doesn't bother me. but like I said, if it bothers so many other people, it should be changed. and to be honest, I feel more reason to return to world's endgame than generation ultimate's endgame because there is a reason to do so, being streamstones and decorations. the issue is the lack of different monsters, so you're fighting the same few elder dragons all the time. in generations ultimate, you don't have a reason to return after you've killed everything, there's nothing more to do other then hunting stuff for fun or making armor sets, but I personally need a reason to do things in games, even if that reason is just to do it for the first time. and I do obviously agree with the lack of different kinds of monsters, although I personally didn't mind a huge amount. I'm personally able to enjoy two flying wyverns separately, but more verity is always good, and since it bothers so many people, it should be improved upon.
I really enjoyed MHW and as a MH fan I was sad when I didn’t have the urge to continue playing. It’s def missing something that the older games had. Hopefully MH will continue to improve. Thanks for the video!
Yea, really miss the old equipment system :( where armor meant more and we're actually grinding for specific monsters equipment at the end game. Not just grinding for jewels with that really low RNG rates, which in my opinion is too grindy. The weapon designs too, and of course, the lobby system. nowadays, other than for doing Kulve siege, ppl won't be using lobby very much.
I agree with this so much. I love everything that MHW is for what it is, but there are so many things the older MH games did better than World. Weapon and armor variety is my number 1 gripe with World. Everything looks samey. Ideally, I would like the next game to incorporate: - The quality of life changes that World gave us - The graphical fidelity that World gave us - MANY more monsters to hunt - MANY more weapons and armors to grind for
What defines quality of life? I definitely don't want infinite item restocking back, and I want them to nerf the moving while healing mechanic. You can essentially dodge every single attack because you can move while healing and also cancel them.
@@Aesieda Not really. Trying to force dodge while using potion will halt full potion recovery. Its not too OP but definitely better than silly flexing pose each time you consume an item. The flex pose is still there but for hunting horn buff stats.
As someone who started with Tri, I kind of like timed events because it guarantees that loads of different people are going to be looking for those events. As long as they're in a predictable pattern so you can schedule around them, it doesn't seem that big a deal to me. It was always radical to see the sandstorm moving in to Loc Lac and knowing Jhen Mohran was around, for example. It added that sense of a living world without completely removing the quality of having proper team duels with a boss.
I agree with pretty much all these except for the "hunt vs boss" part, from the very beginning when I was playing mhfu, I had always wished there was more emphasis on the hunting aspect, as well as seamless, living, breathing environments and after playing and finishing mhgu, I found that even though it was great reliving old style mh, I realised that the map loading screens and open arena type areas made the experience less exciting and immersive.
The thing is that then "hunting" you're thinking of doesn't really fit the monster hunter world. We're basically living weapons of mass destruction fighting against apex predators - the extent of our hunting is tracking and using items specifically to counter a monster. You can have the seamless living breathing world you want in traditional MH games, they're not mutually exclusive, but the problem is that Capcom catered to casuals when switching to it because they felt bad for people who camped at the edge of the maps and changed maps whenever the monster got near which fundamentally makes the game easier because they did nothing to counter-balance it. I just want traditional monster hunter with world's graphics and no-loading times. Fuck unskippable cutscenes and voice acting - waste of fucking time for the MH series that only serves to make the low amount of content look nicer. I feel like the only thing world has over traditional MH is the graphics and no-loading times. Everything else is just worse.
Seamless environments are the best move MH could have made, imo. I tried playing Generations Ultimate, and the wide empty "rooms" with loading screens every 30ft or so were a massive turn-off for me. Monster interactions are also great and make the world feel alive. If it weren't for the changes in MHW, I probably never would have gotten into the series.
@@Mirie-Maribael I agree, though scoutflies were kind of necessary since the old paintball system would not work particularly well with the environment design of _World._ Some of the areas are more straight forward in layout, but there's a significant increase in map complexity. Perhaps a merging of the two ideas, with scoutflies only tracking targets that had been marked.
I couldn't agree more in the point of "sillyness and goofyness". That must be no doubt the one thing that makes me love these series. You have these awesome monsters that have so many concepts beautifully mixed into one, and describing them to other people that don't know MH is super fun (Hey, this monster is called Bazelgeuse and it's a pinecone that throws bombs and its roar sounds like sirens, and sometimes we call him B-52). It's SILLY and I LOVE it, because whenever you go one on one with them, you still have a challenge and have fun because you're fighting the silly concept. Classic MH had armors that were hilarious. Were all of them beneficial? Not at all. But wearing them is what makes you have fun and challenge yourself to have a fork and a knife against the T-Rex that looks like a pickle and could eat its own tail... I agree on you with that, and, if I really, REALLY would like something from this is a game that combines into perfect harmony classic and modern MH on the SWITCH. I feel like Generations Ultimate is still a 3DS experience, just upscaled a bit. But if a new Switch game were made, having the vast majority of QoL improvements there would be a dream game for me. Like, I want a Generations Ultimate where the Weapons have the World movesets, ABOVE ALL THINGS, maybe the Styles could be back, gathering made like in world, no camps... You know, a Generations Ultimate that also feels like World. THAT is an instant buy, because it is a portable/console experience while modern can remain the console-only experience, and we have the best of both worlds.
For me personally World's just lacks content, and I rarely hunted with other players in comparison to previous games. I put 300 hrs plus in as well and I haven't touched it since June. Tri didn't have a ton of content but I played so much with friends/random and put in 1000 hrs into it.
What's funny is I've seen people with no roots in the series call World the most complete AAA package since The Witcher 3. If our fanbase considers THAT level of content lacking, then this franchise truly does spoil us. I'll also mention two points: 1. I don't think it's fair to compare a base MH game's volume of content to games that've already received their G-rank expansions. I expect after Iceborne releases, the game will be somewhere between 3U and 4U in size. 2. It's one of only 3 MH games to be built up from scratch, the other two being MH1 and Tri, World having 2-3 times the content of both.
@@tylermacgregor1320 they must be new. Most of us outside of Japan are use to getting the second version to a MH entry. To address one of your points, I mainly kept the discussion related to Tri. I'd say at the most Tri for me had a better online, and weapons/armor selection. A few things I'd like from Ice Bourne are new and old maps, Tigrex, Rajang, Agnaktor, Zinogre, Gammoth, Glavenus, Seregios. As far as elders go: Gogmazios, Fatalis Bros, Alatreon, Amatsu, Jhen Mohran. Of course I don't expect all of this to happen with just one update. Honestly Capcom doesn't have to make a new MH for yrs. Just updated and add on to Worlds.
interesting perspective, gonna be honest though I love the living breathing environments filled with details and life. I personally can't go back from that, I like that the monster feels like it has a reason to be there.
The thing is... they don't have to be mutually exclusive. Areas and maps can still be designed with utility in mind. I mean... arguably, it's what Tri had. That first encounter with Lagiacrus? That felt believable. The flooded forest? That felt real. Ceadeus' map? Again. Believable. But all of these maps? They were still... "gamey". They still felt like they were designed for you to fight something in them. In world? Coral highlands has to be my favorite map aesthetically, but if it's not in the "elder dragon" areas that Namielle spawns in, it's freaking terrible. Hallways, random cliffs, areas literally the size of a monster... You can have good aesthetics... but still have good gameplay. I hate almost every map in world. Ancient forest? Hate it. Coral highlands? Hate most of it. Wildspire? It's "ok", but have you ever tried to do a quest with both normal and black diablos before? One'll be trying to sleep, then the other just wakes it up immediately, because they're practically in the same spot. And good lord have I never hated fighting Rathian as much as I hate fighting it there. Elder's recess: Half of it's good, half of it's terrible. This would probably be the closest thing to tri's design elements in the base game. But... the terrible's still there. For no real reason. The lava areas. I can't count the number of times I've been carted by a monster because I accidentally jumped in the middle of a laser beam or explosion or fireball instead of running out of it/diving/healing myself. And there's absolutely no reason for those areas to be designed that badly. Hoarfrost. This... is much, much, much closer to Tri's design. And it works. If Tri had been a PS4 game instead of a Wii game, Hoarfrost is probably what most of it's maps would actually look like. Every area is actually fun to play in. They're open, they're large, they're mostly flat, and the few that aren't are still designed well, as they're dens or specific to flying monsters. (legiana) Imagine how much less annoying Kushala would've been in the base game if Ancient forest had been more like Hoarfrost. The issue with world's maps honestly isn't the fact there's so much detail... it's the fact that the detail came before gameplay. Very minor adjustments to half the areas would've fixed almost all design issues. Saturation/contrast adjustments would've fixed the issues of things like mining points not standing out. There's no reason we can't have maps that "make sense", but also still have them actually designed really well for gameplay. Again: Tri did that. Tri was just much more primitive, because it was a Wii game. But almost every monster in Tri... felt like it truly belonged there. Without sacrificing gameplay to do it.
@@AtomicArtumasfinding this 3 years late, but you just summed up my opinion that I didn't know I had, so elegantly and clearly. Thank you for writing this all out 3 years ago lmao Here's hoping Wilds can keep the detail that World brought, while also bringing the combat with the monster more to the forefront of map design. I feel Rise did this better than world, but everyone says those maps are not detailed enough. But take all the Rise maps, and slap all of the gameplay elements of World and people would be all over them.
I dont khow how to react when this video first uploaded because I havent try MH World yet. Now that I have try it, I agree with everything you said in this video. I felt that MH World missing something from the previous game, and you told about it in this video. Yes, MH World is fun, but i think I enjoy previous title more
I've been with Monster Hunter since MH3U and it's been my favourite video game series since. The reason why I haven't picked up World yet is because my PC is too old and I don't have a PS4. However, I don't feel World is a game for which I need to upgrade my hardware. I have Generations Ultimate on Switch and I get my gameplay fix that way. I'd like to try World, but my urge to do so is actually surprisingly diminished.
World is a buffet in which you test all the things, for the price of FREE, but in the end you ultimately only focus on several items, once you've had your full you are ultimately still unsatisfied and disappointed in how no one thing stood out or challenged your pallet. The pacing is just too "good" for any minor monster to have any meaningful spotlight... and the weapons tree/designs absolutely don't warrant going back for seconds. It felt like borderland guns where you find one amazing thing but then dump it for another.
Upgrade your PC man. I bought decent spec PC with onboard graphic(aka no graphic card) but still can play MHW. The cost is similar to new PS4 unit but PC have more advantages than PS4. I don't want to buy PS4 to only play MHW game. At least with PC I can do 1000 things with it than limited functionality PS4.
The timed events and focused multiplayer are the key things why I barely play MHW over MHGU as well. "Gaming live service" is what it's called afaik and I... don't like it. I got into games because opposed to TV, it let me enjoy something I like at my OWN leisure, whereas TV had set time frames for when that certain series was airing. I see the current event system the same way. It's stressful to have to make time for a weekend to play exactly MHW, when I'd rather play something else. That's exactly opposed to why I play. Multiplayer in MHW feels like a crowded city to me. Yes, there's tons of players in every lobby, but nothing's connecting them. Sure, there's still lobbies meant to take down a certain monster, but it's not the same. Because for all you know, the original hunters left already and now it's people randomly loaded in on bootup and you're on your own again. Doesn't feel good and it's inefficient too. MH World's combat feels great, but these two aspects above just don't jive with me at all.
Having all event quests available permanently means some (or most) will be left in the dark. And if no one ever plays them, why even have them? Event Quests are timed so that they are all played at some point.
@@CaelumN0ctis Then they just need to advertise the purposes of the quests, like if they offer special tickets, or gold crowns, or whatever. Then people will play them. The timed events are indefensible. If the game punishes you for not attending an event, you either play when you don't feel like doing so and will get burned out harder and faster, or you don't feel like playing at a regular time because it feels like a waste compared to playing during an event. This system killed the game.
@@CaelumN0ctis Doesn't matter if it's timed or not, if your event quest sucks ass then no one will play it. I'd argue that it'd be played even less as a timed exclusive seeing as it's not there all the time.
I come back to this video constantly because, as happy as I am that we have new hunters and the series being as popular as it's ever been we lost that special spark that a lot of my new hunting friends don't understand and whenever I voice my opinion about how I feel (being an OG hunter, starting from MH4) I'm just called a boomer and a hater for the new stuff. So when I show them this at least they start to get it a bit.
I agree with most of what you are saying. But I will never miss the old armor system and how long it took to build good set, the skills on armor pieces made it more fun to find a good set for me. Yeah people can bash me all they want and call me casual as much as they like but that's still the way I feel about the old armor system.
I'm just like you, actualy the old way restricted way more your build and armor variants. To me they are just nostalgic, most of hi's point is purely personal, nothing tecnical, just "I miss the old times"; Not a single value from a gameplay desing.
Same. I collect armor just for the looks. In the older games I just accepted, that the armor I had was worse than a combination. Now, I still have skills with a cool looking armor. Like evade window? Here craft this charm and wear a cool looking armor.
@@TheSidorak12 One of the only valid reasons back then was endgame content, but now it's no longer a valid complaint due to Icebourne having one of the, if not the best endgames in the series.
@@TheSidorak12 Many people (myself included) don't mind a "git gud and grind more" mentality in games, which the old Monster HUnter games have. I'd much more prefer a more challenging system that requires more time investment, than something that gives me instant gratification. I am juggling 3 different old MH games , with P3rd on the side when i travel, and it's so much fun, to just advance a little bit at a time at each one of them, seeing how they differ from each other. I think we should just agree to disagree.
I agree man, but for different reasons After playing World for a while I really missed the old arcade feel from Generations, especially as a LBG main Something about the new playstyle just felt different, since the addition of land mines and moving while shooting meant that shots did less damage overall, which detracted from the main reason I played it in the first place I loved the feeling of making every rapid fire shot and every dodge count and the bullets just felt heavier and more impactful, and World just didn’t give me that same satisfaction for some reason
I know this video came out years ago, but yeah, I recent \ly just came back from Rise after playing World a few years back and I do miss some parts of the older generation. I like quality of life changes, but some take out the fun or immersion of actually hunting a monster. Like monster locations being shown in the map, paintballs not existing anymore, your loadouts allowed being changed in tents, I like that about old generation and yea, I enjoy world now and rise but it doesnt feel the same with the older games.
@@tzera_rhuon Absolutely. Strange and sad. It used to be so tight knit.
@@Walamonga1313 Its actually soooooooooo much quicker when grinding quests to return to the base-camp as the load times are dramatically reduced, yet everyone still rushes back to Astera 😓😓

@@tzera_rhuon Exactly! That's my main reasoning for staying lol
Less time loading=more time playing! Do you play on PC or console? Because I've seen PC load pretty damn fast compared to consoles.

Gaijin’s Seregios LBG set
I tried that thing out, and saw it could rapid fire Slicing S.

I habent played World, but if its anything like the other games, the bone tree should (at least early on) have better power, but comparatively poor sharpness
i think it comes down to graphics on that front imagine how long it would take to make some of the awsome weapons from ultimate
MH World - "Here's a sword!"
Player: "Oh sweet nice!"
MH World - "Here's the sword but with a feather."
Player: "Oh... neat."
MH World - "Here's the sword but with a spike AND a feather cos late game."
Player: "Are you kidding me?"
That's the issue I have with World, weapons and armour look like underwhelming trash til the end game. But even then those weapon/armour designs are on par with high rank/low rank gear in the classic games.
@@PrimeValkyrie diffrence is though thats there is like 20 pixels for each sword on mh ultimate i think your forgetting that
@rusty banana Each weapon and armour piece is made to stand out more even with the pixel count. i really miss m4u, that feeling when i was alone at hub and couldn't defeat tigrex solo because of shit armor, suddenly came a hunter from higher rank said, "hi, can i help you hunting some monster? What do you need?". SOS flare cannot replace that.

@@Vulgarth1 It definitely streamlines the process but sometimes it just feels better having someone reach out to you themselves.
glad i'm not the only one who does this
There's something about looking through the lobbies, and seeing one named "turns" with 3/4 people in it.
It also work for the armor
With some friend we have farm the kirin with armor stat betewn -12 and -16 to lightning just fine (two of us where new to MH)
Or just take any weapon to kill a mob no probleme to take lunastra a with a fire weapon
Metahemoth didn't help

Guess that makes me the Kokoto guy, i still remember those feeling where i get the Hero Sword after clearing the firts MH on PS2.....
I also did that quest with two carts, no items left, and 50ish seconds on the clock XD

The weapons and Armor in World are really lacking in the wow factor. The classik had better design.
Only the weapons, common all the armors look great
We got simple sets like the Tzitzi Ya Ku, Odogaron, and Tobi Kadachi sets, more visually out there sets like Nergigante, Kulve Taroth and Xeno Jiiva sets, goofy stuff like the Kulu and Wiggler helmets, a mix of everything in the returning armour department, there’s something visually for everyone. I think CPACOM did that (changing the art style from cartoonish to more realistic) to please the western customers.
The weapons are just my biggest gripe honestly. Just want them to look so flashy and cool. It doesn’t have to be “realistic” since it’s just a fantasy game.

I agree with the timed event quest. They should remove the timed part Imo
I believe that was a strategy to keep players playing/coming back. I don't really agree with it though.
They need more monsters. Full stop. This would breathe so much more life into the game for me. Otherwise I love it.
cyanidematt true, Im hoping for a g rank of all current monsters and 30 more in iceborne
FRIDGE it’s gonna be more like 10, tops.
Capcom, hire this person. Immediately.
Just imagine the relic weapons and armor on HD :D
@One Triggered Zeno Boi don't push your luck....
PUT AN APEX SAVAGE JHO IN IT
3u remastered was pretty much the wii u edition.
I miss having the pause button during solo hunts, especially when I have to attend to something else urgently e.g. phonecall while a monster is preparing to chew me alive.
jamiehuang88 oh yeah definitely. Even if it was buried in the menus, it was a necessary part of the game
I feel like the solo-friendly aspect really works for me at least. I mostly like to play solo and I would not have put as many hours in as I have if they had a lazer focus on playing with others. Those are just my two cents though
I'm also glad I could do most of the game solo, cause there's no way in hell I'm paying for psplus
Solo is also a fantastic way of teaching players how the fight can go and a great way to experiment with that works rather than just dying and ruining the hunt for other players
99.9% of my MH series gameplay has been solo so far. Best way to play 👍

@@fleeplayTV
OG Contents & Quality over MH World Graphics anyday buddy 👊

Yes that was the intent of the video, to teach u this lesson

I find myself going back to MH3U because of the underwater combat system, too bad so many hunters were so negative about it ;(
I actually loved it. It makes me feel like fighting monsters like Lagiacrus on their own turf, where I'm at a disadvantage, and adds an additional thrill to the David vs. Goliath-feeling that makes MH so unique. I also consider the Flooded Forest one of my favourite maps for how murky it is.

@@krizzle4rizz after playing on my best friend's switch lite for a day the map over all is designed to look and feel like world-ish but once you fight the monster in an area the ran into it feels more like the classic imo. Okay, I appreciate that you played on your friend's switch for a day, but I literally have over 100 hours in Rise so far (which isn't even close to my record for an MH game), and I can assure you Rise is pretty much World 2.
Rise doesn't have flex either.

Here are some of the areas; contrast them with Monster Hunter World:

When I say the endgame is weak in MHW, I mean not from lack of a defined goal.
Starting from 4th Gen, the series undeniably have mistakes for each game;
4U: Guild Quests, Apex Monsters, Divine Armor Spheres
Gen/GenU: Poor difficulty balance, no Subspecies, Hyper Monsters, Deviants Quest system
World: Poor difficulty balance, poor weapons design, Arch-Tempered Elder Dragons, a nerf or outright ruin certain returning monsters, poorly designed gimmicky collaboration monsters, multiplayer makes everything harder, not easier, timed Event Quests, Stuns, Temors, Roars, and Windpress made broken.
I have to agree, I like MHGU better for how it played and how you prepared for hunts. MHW is not a bad game but I just enjoy the older ones better.
I miss local play. Soendint Sunday afternoons in a mall food court with random friends play MH was great.
I really enjoyed MHW and as a MH fan I was sad when I didn’t have the urge to continue playing. It’s def missing something that the older games had. Hopefully MH will continue to improve. Thanks for the video!
The mechanics of world are cool but thats about it old mh was way more rewarding most of his points hit the nail on the head
Ideally, I would like the next game to incorporate:
- The quality of life changes that World gave us
- The graphical fidelity that World gave us
- MANY more monsters to hunt
- MANY more weapons and armors to grind for
What defines quality of life? I definitely don't want infinite item restocking back, and I want them to nerf the moving while healing mechanic. You can essentially dodge every single attack because you can move while healing and also cancel them.
@@Aesieda I mean if you couldn't dodge while healing it would be RIP you
@@Aesieda Hmm yes I do enjoy flexing every single time I fucking heal, only to die seconds later
The variety of weapons in World is so bad. Like the Rathalos Great Sword is looking same to each other except in the different colors.
@@Aesieda Not really. Trying to force dodge while using potion will halt full potion recovery. Its not too OP but definitely better than silly flexing pose each time you consume an item. The flex pose is still there but for hunting horn buff stats.
you're 100% correct. This game is awesome but misses that fantasy style that the old monster hunters had. I want that back
I'd love them to add SKIP CUTSCENE (jesus, I hate not being able to skip them)
Monster movie world
You've nailed pretty much most of what I had issues with since release.
I agree with you COMPLETELY! None of my friends understand the reason why I prefer old MH vs world. Thank You!
Same here love mh as a whole but 4u and gen felt much better to play and my friends keep saying it's just nostalgia all the time.
Yes thank you I tell my friends "guys us full armour sets" and then ask me "why its worse" then I send them this vid thank you our fellow hunter
Same with me. I got 2 copies of generations, one for me and one for my friend, but he just cant get into it. Looks like I have to play on my own now.
It added that sense of a living world without completely removing the quality of having proper team duels with a boss.
mh4u is the best series
Mark Hearty it has by far the best story out of all monster hunter games.
Someone that speaks the truth
I was never really a story buff, so I mostly prefer MHGU.
3U is best actually felt like you were a hunter since you hunted land and water. (still respect your opinion tho)
It was my first MH game where I picked it up day one. So much content and the lvl 140 monsters really separated the men from the boys.
I agree with pretty much all these except for the "hunt vs boss" part, from the very beginning when I was playing mhfu, I had always wished there was more emphasis on the hunting aspect, as well as seamless, living, breathing environments and after playing and finishing mhgu, I found that even though it was great reliving old style mh, I realised that the map loading screens and open arena type areas made the experience less exciting and immersive.
there isnt really an hunting in world tho because of scout flies
@@Mirie-Maribael whats scout flies any different than paint balls and food skills to track monsters
MHW lacks end game VARIETY.
So you want hunt AT as investigate with 0.5% chance get ticket to craft gamma armor or endgame event?
@@maryceleste_aghost i don't know, mhw even lacks many things compared to past mh games, even the non ultimate version
MH endgame is farming so what you do do in World is what you do in every MH games
I gotta say you hit the nail on the head with this one.
I love MHW, but there were parts which didn't feel the same as the older ones, which I missed.
For me personally World's just lacks content, and I rarely hunted with other players in comparison to previous games. I put 300 hrs plus in as well and I haven't touched it since June. Tri didn't have a ton of content but I played so much with friends/random and put in 1000 hrs into it.
Contents as in a number of large monster?
@@DnVFMVs more monsters, subspecies, elder dragons, unique quest and weapons.
What's funny is I've seen people with no roots in the series call World the most complete AAA package since The Witcher 3. If our fanbase considers THAT level of content lacking, then this franchise truly does spoil us. I'll also mention two points:
@@tylermacgregor1320 The game have major step forwards but there're also major step backwards as well.
(legiana)
Imagine how much less annoying Kushala would've been in the base game if Ancient forest had been more like Hoarfrost.
@@AtomicArtumas good points
@@AtomicArtumasfinding this 3 years late, but you just summed up my opinion that I didn't know I had, so elegantly and clearly. Thank you for writing this all out 3 years ago lmao
Here's hoping Wilds can keep the detail that World brought, while also bringing the combat with the monster more to the forefront of map design.
Yes, MH World is fun, but i think I enjoy previous title more
MH4u is for my opinion THE best Monster Hunter game
That's not an opinion that's just a fact
@@CaelumN0ctis they will be played by completionists. As of right now you can't "complete" the game because most event quests aren't available.
@@JibanExE couldnt agree more, the only reason you can prefer the old games is for nostalgia, there are no technical reasons for liking them
@@TheSidorak12 One of the only valid reasons back then was endgame content, but now it's no longer a valid complaint due to Icebourne having one of the, if not the best endgames in the series.
I feel the same Gaijin, don't worry. I went back to MHGU like 2 weeks ago and can't go back to MHW now.
Same, once I got the Switch Version back when it came out, I deleted world and haven't reinstalled it again.
Im good with MHGU.
moofahs > poogies
I agree man, but for different reasons
After playing World for a while I really missed the old arcade feel from Generations, especially as a LBG main
Something about the new playstyle just felt different, since the addition of land mines and moving while shooting meant that shots did less damage overall, which detracted from the main reason I played it in the first place
I loved the feeling of making every rapid fire shot and every dodge count and the bullets just felt heavier and more impactful, and World just didn’t give me that same satisfaction for some reason
I remember I loved playing normal S3 and spread LBG, in world IDK why I dont like it :/
I know this video came out years ago, but yeah, I recent \ly just came back from Rise after playing World a few years back and I do miss some parts of the older generation.
