      Too bad there will be so much sharing with the Dodge Hornet in the US. The Tonale will get lost in the Hornet promotions.

      @@rlsedition Dodge Hornet is essentially rebadged Alfa Romeo Tonale with different bumpers. It’s not Dodge and I personally find it a bit disgusting. They have ruined the Tonale which I really like. I would have much preferred if they had used the Jeep Compass for Hornet. Hornet will confuse Dodge people with Italian engineering. It doesn’t even deserve the attention. Alfa Romeo is the star.

    • @rlsedition
      @rlsedition ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikojarvinen6273 I'm with you on this issue. Alfa did all the work on the Tonale only to give it all to Dodge virtually unchanged. Hornet may confuse Dodge buyers, but it will further hurt the Alfa Romeo brand in the US market when it's the same car at a lower price point. Maybe Dodge needed a new small car entry, but the way Stellantis chose to create the Hornet was a death nell to Alfa in the US. Why kill Alfa to benefit Dodge?

    this has to be up there as one of your best videos, so glad to see you having fun hooning it around a track, though the driver in front didnt drive quick enough by the looks of things!!
    the car looks great and love the ide of 50 miles of EV range, that should be the mininum a PHEV should offering, 30-35 max is just not really enough, at least with a 50 mile max you should get at a guess 30-35 even in colder weather.
    the fact you can charge the battery whilst driving on ICE mode is great as could use the PHEV battery at your destination.
    i drive approx 120 miles to work, but then only do just 5-6 miles a day commuting, so i could easily use the EV part could do the whole of my 4 or 5 days on shift, which is a maximum of 30 miles.
    Not to mention 370 miles roughly wouldnt quite get me to scotland from devon, but i usually stop in stoke and carlisle anyway, where i could stop to fill up and maybe partially charge the battery whilst having a break.
    what sort of charging time is the battery say even to 80%?

The claimed 600km range together with fully charged battery is quite short, but I assume it has a smaller fuel tank as well. Plus no AWD in EV mode. Anyone hoping to make use of the AWD may be very disappointed. Still a great motor with some quirks..just ordered the Ti 160hp hybrid.

    • @guyb7271
      @guyb7271 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed on longer trips when the battery runs out it's still mighty fast though it does rev a little more eagerly. It always keeps for about 3 to 4 km of charge in the battery to guarantee availability of AWD (so it seems to have a hybrid mode that is independent of the ICE+EV hybrid mode with battery charge). The moment you go off the accelerator it does fairly strong regen 'braking' and looking at the Energy Flow tab in the e-Hybrid screen (of the Infotainment system) it seems to send some power to the battery in D mode even when applying accelerator(*).
      So, unless you keep accelerating for a very long time (or would maintain constant energy if it were possible---so also slowing down going uphill f.i.---) there is always some juice left in the battery for eAWD acceleration. Obviously that energy has to come from somewhere, and if it's not from gravity (like rolling downhill), it has to come from higher fuel consumption. (Recuperating kinetic energy for battery charge through regen braking instead of coasting obviously means you need to go sooner on the accelerator to maintain speed and so this also impacts fuel consumption.)
      Yet below 100 km/h fuel economy is reasonable, even with spirited driving (compared to my previous car at less than half the power with pure petrol ICE; if you want numbers I need to start noting them down once it gains a bit of age).
      (*) There is apparently a 20 kW or so generator attached to the ICE. Some documentation suggests it's a starter motor (but why? compactness?), other documentation suggests it's a generator to maintain minimum battery charge. However, on the charge gauge it is a ghost charge because if the battery is flat it says 0 km on the instrument cluster and 0 km in the My Alfa Connect app.
      The above observations mostly apply to D mode when not indicated.

    Stylish but is it reliable???
    Alpha have not been known for reliability here in Aus.
    PHEV seems the way to go unless you are only having a city car and don't plan to take that car on long distance trips to rural and regional areas in the outback.

    Alfa seem to be believing their own hype as Tonale's are stupid money now... mid-range you're looking at the sharp end of 60,000€ - you can get in an ex demo Stelvio or a new Mazda CX5 for the same money - or like-for-like, a Mazda CX-30 (arguably a tad prettier, as good a drive and way better specced) for 40K

      @@PetrolPed True O King - but it's not like it's another "benefit" of electricfication, it's a choice some manufacturers make.
      If you want an AWD Tonale (a pretty reasonable request given it's supposed to be a "sport(ing) utility vehicle") you are forced to buy a 1.3 Mulitiar plug-in hybrid with all the attendant extra costs and (frankly) bullshot of charging the bloody thing.
      Compare and contrast CX-30, which might give some away in raw performance (although not much in real life unless you really intend caning your 50-plus-grand Tonale everywhere) but is 12 grand less for a way superior interior spec, arguably better safety (gizmos and NCAP) and still rates A on the efficiency scale...

    Alfa still has electrical issues with their batteries, would not be comfortable with one of these,too many things to go wrong and time of the road. I think it looks amazing but not worth the risk when buying with your head and not heart.
