Probably but sometimes niche stuff all of a sudden becomes desirable to people who are tired of mainstream collecting. Those Rambo toys specifically look like something that rarely stayed in the box or survived after a kid was done with them. I vaguely remember that Wheel Warrior show so he might be better off just giving it to his kid to play with.
🤷🏼♂️He did pay too much but “but”the best thing he could do is sit down and spend some quality time building and telling stories about it with his son .just some plain ol quality time with the lil fella you never know he might jump rite in to it like my kids ……🫡🫡🫡🫡✌🏼
I’ve overpaid for items in my collection more than once. It’s the thrill and adrenaline of seeing something you once owned and wanting it back, along with the fear of missing out if you don’t buy right then and there, that takes precedence. I do say the toy market is weird right now. I blame world affairs both abroad and distant for the lack of interest in vintage toys right now. Inflation being a big part of the problem. People aren’t splurging for nostalgia right now.
@@marquisdesade3025 for sure, but sketchy for anyone who’s collecting for investment down the road. I myself collect for the hobby and nostalgia but as well as investment and most importantly to hand my collection of toys and comics down to my kids. But when times are like they are now, it makes me worry that prices won’t come back up. Sell or not to sell? Always the question.
I think any collector, myself included, has overpaid for items. It's part of the game. Prices drop, go up and sometimes you pay to much. But if u love it, it's still awesome 👌
I see many people in the comments of these videos complaining about how 50% of value is a rip off. I think it’s fair given that you’re selling your items to someone on the spot. It’s well worth it if you have a bulk of items that you would have to list and sell individually through time. For example, you sell 10 items valued at 100 each equalling a value of 1000. After eBay fees and shipping you’re looking at about 800 roughly give or take. Giving up 300 bucks for the convenience of getting the cash or credit on the spot vs waiting for your items to individually sell, run to the post office 10 times? That’s a fair deal to me. I love the videos! Keep it up guys!
There is no money to be made selling vintage toys to a toy store. If you want the money you have to sell it individually to collectors. Its pretty simple
I pay more for some stuff if is something i rarely see but always wanted. I also dont live in the US so anything i buy from the US incurs tax and crazzzzy shipping cost lol so basically i am always overpaying 😅
Don't worry, we've all been stung at one time or another. I remember in the 1980's buying lots of red box Matchbox Models Of Yesteryear for up to $14.95 each. All unopened so packed them away hoping one day I'd hit the jackpot. I'm in Australia. Flat out getting $5-$6 each now and that's if they can sell. Sold the lot off real cheap just to get rid of them. Could have held on to them hoping the market would turn around, but realised I'd be 6 feet under by then.
I love you Show is like Wake up on early saturday morning Watching classic cartoons, remember those days. I wish you guys can post more videos doing a week.😊
Was great to see the Wheeled Warriors base. My Father designed it and I believe did the box art as well back when he worked for Mattel. As a Kid he had brought home a prototype version and I played with that thing for years. Ever time I have seen it in the case it has reminded me of those days. Was cool to see a boxed one come in. I mainly watch to see if my Dads work comes in (he did a lot of MotU as well). I have told him he should consider selling you some of his original designer gouache box art and technical drawings. Though I might want to keep some to remember his contributions to the toy industry.
We have all overpaid, dude knew it was personal for him though. Did he end up selling them to you? I genuinely am not a collector however but I am fascinated by this subculture and can not get enough of your videos, you guys are killing it. These videos of deals are great, you going through large collections people bring in are great, you going to conventions are great. Keep up the good work guys, you have a great team there! This guy’s knowledge is off the charts. Most people would blow this hobby stuff off. I’m guessing he has close to a million $ sitting on the shelf’s there. Maybe more
I just paid a little too much for a Darth Vader carrying case, but it had the insert, and was from a childhood friend of mine, so there is a 100% chance it was around when we were kids.
Sometimes its a gamble with how the market changes, but anytime you buy something NOS/Sealed, it's value will drop once that seal is broken. It's just how the collectors and market look at things. Lesson learned for that guy.
It's possible to pass it on but I've also been to lots of garage sales where the kids don't care, don't want, and don't know what to do with their parents stuff and sell it for pennies on the dollar
My son is the one who actually got me into collecting Gi Joe, it's something we do together and enjoy. So I can say my kid was interested in the old toys and I said why not 😂.
Man you already opened the box of that playlet....The best way to get your money worth is to put it together and spend your Saturday mornings rolling around the floor with your son playing with it. Life won't get any better than that!

i had those water guns and the toys from that cartoon. also had the wheeled warriors. looking back, we were kinda poor and i still had every major toy line.
I like the transparency of determining value then offering a percentage 50% seems a bit low but clearly the shop has big overheads and too much stock sitting..60% of comps is common for video game and sneakers resellers

Yeah, as a collector, I never bought toys to try to make money off them, but because I enjoy them. I haven't sold or gotten rid of much, either. Also not sure why this guy was thinking of selling this stuff that he said had personal value.

Prob pretty good, whatever they had it stock skyrocketed at that time, as long as they bought things at the right price and made at least +50% on stuff im sure they are fine. The challenge for these business models are is curating your stock. Most stores you have suppliers and you just order new stuff and it shows up and they keep adding products. For these guys getting these collections and scouring ebay for deals could be the real tough part of keeping the gravy train rolling. Sometimes a hot market can be good for these owners as more people will want to liquidate around those times, if their collection isn't worth much they'll keep it. If they are profiting on their entry cost they'll be more inclined to sell or get credit.
I was wondering, where do you look up all the variety of toys that come in? can't just be eBay...... I would like to learn how to evaluate toy's better.
it really is just ebay. Been doing this kind of thing for years and everyone just uses ebay. you can't really use multiple outlets because prices can very wildly between website. like amazon is about 20 to 30% more expensive for retro toys and game VS Ebay. And Ebay is just all around more popular for this kind of stuff so often times its the only place to find listening of some items.
Dude doesn't know how to even complete a sense, he'll stop mid sentence and go to something else , and he talks about these toys like he's working on a nuke or poison gas or something all seriousness
Also thinking you guys should do an April Fools video when we get closer to spring. Have Ryan or Travis step on someone's G1 Optimus Prime or something. Or maybe the seller should try to pass off a custom Mr T doll off as a prototype. LOL. Just some ideas.
This is a general comment: You really need to sell your stuff yourself, otherwise you are really never going to get a fair price from dealers. Many have an attitude that they are doing you a favor by taking it off your hands. This one guy I came across, would give you only 30% of the value when the collectible /toy was released, not the appreciated value or sold to value found on E-bay. I think everyone understands that resellers/ shops need meat left on the bone, but there is a point of being ridiculous. They are hoping that you are in a situation, where you need the money and are desperate. It is better to take the time and sell the items yourself in the end you will at least did not give away your collectibles for pennies on the dollar.
How many alternate accounts are you going to make to comment the same thing on every one of these videos? Anyone with half a brain can come to the conclusion of "selling online". People done sell their toys at this shop just to sell..... If that were the case they would just sell on Ebay. There is a whole experience
No shame in overpaying, it’s bound to happen in the hobby. If you start getting worried about prices, you no longer in it for the toys but more into bargain shopping. But it’s always worthwhile to do you due diligence and search fair market value before making a big purchase.
17:08 That's the one you're referring to, right? Could be the 2009 Target exclusive Legacy Collection one, a Saga Collection version...or even one of the newer Vintage Collection ones. There's been so many releases of the true 1/18 scale movie accurate X-Wings.
Does he keep him pristine top stuff thats worth money? He should. Sell everything else. Tables would be good. Make people feel comfortable and more people come
Just my opinion, but when you ask a honest customer like that guy "what did you think these were worth?" And they tell you "I just wanted to know what they are worth" you should immediately tell them "well, what they are worth isn't necessarily what I can pay you for this"
Haha what are you even talking about? It's like all of you people don't have any common sense... Bro, you are selling to a B U S I N E S S. You are going to a store, a vendor, a business and you expect them to pay you exactly what a figure is 'worth'? Uhm... how exactly is he going to make any money/profit? If a figure is 'worth' 100$ he is not going to pay you anything close to that. lmao You maybe get like 50-60% of what its 'worth'. Maybe if you walk in to the store with some kind of 'Holy Grail' like the 'Wonder Bread He-Man' or some super-duper rare Figure/Collectible you will get some decent amount of money - like 80-90% of what its worth. Otherwise you can't expect to get top dollar for your stuff, when your stuff is sold all over ebay for differente prices. Just sell your stuff on eBay if you want to get some money for it. I do the same and i always get close to what its worth. Can't expect a figure worth 100$, with 50 of them on eBay, to sell it for 100$. Make offers available and accept decent offers.
I never sell and rarely by from these type of shops… I just don’t get good vibes from these places…. Always seems like someone is trying to get over on someone else….
man I dont know if you live under a rock or what. but trading in toys and stuff for quick cash has been a thing for a long time. your local retro toy shop works the same way. how do you think they get product for the store. Its not a rip off. These people can say no and then sale it on ebay them selves. but no they make their own choices. and Toy federation has a business to run. retro toy shops wouldn't exist if they gave full market for products. but yes this is just like a pawn shop. its part of the collecting hunt man. often these people use these trade in moments to trade up. hardly ever do people take only cash. They come in with a mission to get a grail item or a harder to find item for alot of common toys that they bring in.
Did he pay too much?!??
If they had sentimental value, no. But it seems like since he was ready to sell them they weren’t sentimental so yeah he overpaid

M-14 came before the M-16, now we use M-4 (5.56mm). M-60 "The Pig" came before the M-249 (7.62mm).
Hang around this shop long enough you will get beef stued
Zoom in more on the toys please or show it to the camera
Just my opinion, but when you ask a honest customer like that guy "what did you think these were worth?" And they tell you "I just wanted to know what they are worth" you should immediately tell them "well, what they are worth isn't necessarily what I can pay you for this"
Ok
He does... He tells them he looks up the value then gives them 50 percent of that. Classic case of pay attention before you speak
If a figure is 'worth' 100$ he is not going to pay you anything close to that. lmao
You maybe get like 50-60% of what its 'worth'.
Geek geek nerd geek !
I never sell and rarely by from these type of shops… I just don’t get good vibes from these places….
Always seems like someone is trying to get over on someone else….
Except ours. Thanks for watching!
Like a toy pawn shop. Like a payday loan joint. RIP off
RIP? Who died?
man I dont know if you live under a rock or what. but trading in toys and stuff for quick cash has been a thing for a long time. your local retro toy shop works the same way. how do you think they get product for the store.
Your aware that they have to turn around and make a profit off the stuff that’s brought in right? Economics isn’t your strong suit
I feel like guy doesn't have huch of a life outside of selling and buying toys...
Weird thing to say for someone who is watching a guy buy and sell toys 😅🤦🏻♂️
I bet he enjoys doing it.
I feel like you must not have much of a life coming here and making such an asinine comment.
We can't all be Juggalos.
@@catcherintheskyIt all makes sense now.
