The only problem I see with most DIY pen holders are that they wil raise the paper surface and will cause issue whenever you write something down. Good thing about this method is that you can remove the penholder if that happens.
I've never tried any other method, but you could give small staples a try. When I was working out the length, I used a safety pin, and that could become a permanent solution.

You are 💯 correct! I always take it off when writing. Some folks prefer a stick-on pen loop, but I always “feel” it. Thanks for catching my video!!
