Actually there is a movie... Somewhat based in the album and themes on it...called "Imaginaerum"... Tuomas was co-writer for he story and well.... Music also mostly by him...
Great reviews of all the songs. My 3 favorites are The Weave, Something Whispered Followed Me and Strange Islands. Now about these songs being about rhe cycle of life and nature, if you listen to Toumas, he always stated these three albums are a trilogy and you can tell they are all about belong together. ❤
Yes, the Weave is the thread (pun intended) that runs through the album and is regetenced in many of the songs. That last high note from Floor at the end reminds me of Ad Astra from disc 2 of Human Nature. The drumming is ridiculous too. Yes, the three fates or, in the Norse legends, the Norns.
@nikkireviews Inspired by your idea I tried to decide my order of preference of sins on this album. I find that the only thing that happens is what has happened the last 40+ times I have listened to the album: I find something in every track that makes me think it's the best, only to find myself waiting for Lanternlight. So my order is 1. Lanternlight 2. Yesterwynde, An Ocean of Strange Islands, Perfume of the Timeless, Something Whispered Follow Me, Hiraeth, The Weave 3. The Antikythera Mechanism, The Day Of, Sway, The Children of 'Ata, Spider Silk ...and not much between each level. With most of the albums I have clear favourites but the Evolution Trilogy has broken that. I absolutely love these three albums and I can't find a song on any of them that I ever skip. Not that I skip many Nightwish songs, but you know what I mean - if I were forced to listen to all but one track from each album, I could find one to ditch from the first 7 albums but it would be really tough on the last three.
Nikki, love your Nightwish journey--the best band with the BEST vocalist! I think you are one of the most thoughtful and interesting Nightwish reactors! I like your list in general, but for me the two masterpieces are Lanternlight and Strange Islands--can't believe they are so far down. They are far and away the top two, but after that I think your list is very thoughtful. But this just shows the beauty and impact of Nightwish. There are no bad songs, and every one affects people in different but amazing ways.
This is a great song, and one the great things about so many songs of Nightwish is that the music and overall sound sis so great that I do not even know or even care what the lyrics are - the overall sound is just awesome.
Don't know you have access to a Dolby Atmos home theater setup, but in additional to the vinyl, I also purchased the bluray edition with the Dolby Atmos mix, and I must say, it's a gamechanger. It paints every song in a new, immerse light, and you hear things that you don't hear in the original, It is a different mix, and my preferred way of listening to the album now. It just pops all around you in exquisite detail. Especially Perfume of the Timeless.
I hope you also purchased directional solid silver cables, a separate monobloc tube amp for each speaker and lubed it all with snake oil. If not, you cannot appreciate this piece of art in its whole magnificence.

Hey Nikki - great reaction and loved your review. My list is similar in theming to yours but less lyrically based. I also have An Ocean of strange islands up at the top - it seems to appeal to a lot of long term NW fans I think as it gives feelings of a lot of different NW songs through the journey, thereby feeling both new and nostalgic at the same time - Tuomas truly is a genius writer.

After having the album for more than a month now... this is THE song I keep coming back to over and over. It is my favorite and the last twenty seconds are the best twenty seconds the band has ever produced.

Wish this album had at least twelve more songs, this is not enough. :D And if you are planning to react to "End of an Era", you should also watch "From Wishes to Eternity" concert, that came a few years before that. Also it's their first concert DVD ;-)
Do you notice how this song progressed to the middle and then went backwards to the beginning. Yes, life. The unweaving has begun. Thats where you and I are different with the sad songs. My all time fav for 4 or 5 years from TheWarning has been BlackHoles,also love TheEnd,Revenant also 23 is up there near the top too along with When Im alone all sad songs .This has been fun watching you react to Nightwish thanks Nikki !!

After listening to the album for a while and having to decide which songs I would listen to live, my ranking would be as follows: 1: An ocean of strange islands as an opener, of course. 2: Children of ata 3: Spider Silk or Something whispered followed me. I can't really decide. 4: The weave 5: Hiraeth too, actually. Because of Troy :) 6: Lanternlight, of course. But after TGSOE. Or before? TGSOE is a phenomenal closer. Preferably the whole album. But there are so many other good songs. Ghost love score has to be there, of course. THE Nightwish song.
It's hard to pick a top 3. The whole album is amazing! But my top 3 translates to the heavier stuff, especially because I'm a sucker for Kai's drumming. And he really shines on this album. 1- The Weave 2- An Ocean of Strange Islands 3- Antikytera or Spider Silk or Something Whispered. Can't decide.
Impossible to rank these songs... I would end up with 12 number 1's. Like you said, a lot depends on the mood I am in. After listening to the orchestral version I got to appreciate Tuomas (and James) even more, changing my ranking again. First we need to hear these songs live, then I will be able to give my final ranking. Let's hope in '26....

Yes, Tuomas could do movies. I doubt he will, because what makes him so good is is free to make his art as he feels it. No directors and producers to tell him to make it shorter, longer, different, tell him it is not right and must change. He would not be happy or productive if he is not free.
Yeah, that's what people were saying in the Premiere chat. For some reason I just thought it was a concept for the album and not an actual movie. Definitely need to look into that more now.

Could be better w/o Troy, though I like him as a sound effect (the low hum at the end). Which is the proper use for him as a mediocre backing singer. At Nr 2 - 12 is "the rest".
