The current one also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and I've got the ethernet adapter for a wired connection. Am I missing something, or is there indeed no big reason to upgrade?
It makes absolutely no sense. They could've just added more RAM and storage to the existing form factor, and even switched out the remote, if they think this new one is better. Who wants to run cables to an extra piece of hardware sitting out on a surface, collecting dust?
Newer Wi-Fi standards not only support faster speeds but lower latency. That means it's faster to start playing a video stream. It would have helped to load stuff in on the fly faster as well.
They had 4 years and this is it? I'm a bit disappointed as the Apple TV is so smooth, fast, and ad free and constantly updated. A higher price point but still so worth it. They had all that time and could have put a Tensor G4 in this for example. I've never seen a company shoot themselves in the foot the way Google does. White is a strainge choice, hazel is better the darker the colour the less distracting especially if placed under or next to the TV, white will be very distracting. There isna reason all TV connected devices are black, so they disappear next to a Black TV.
Yay, just what we all needed and wanted, yet another device to sit on a flat surface and collect dust for me to clean while I try to hide wires! I prefer the older dongle style but that's me.
I prefer a box with real ports. Wish they would have added another USB C (3.2) port.
If I wanted a Roku streaming box I'd buy one. I like chromecast cus they just work with your phone, no special remote, set and forget.
If it uses the Amlogic S905X5 it runs AndroidTV 14 which wouldn't surprise me. All operator tier devices that use this chip launched on ATV 14 and previous chips don't have drivers for ATV 14 yet.
its mediatek chip
The performance on my Chromecast 4k is so disappointing that I don't think 22% increase will make it "smooth". I really wish these would come with flagship processors for once.
so if you hang your tv on the wall you're out of look then, since the old one could be easily hidden behind
My thoughts exactly ! Wtf is google thinking. Looks like im going with the firestick 4k max then
mount behind tv da zip tie double side tape lol
@@Mike-t5r9q mount behind tv da zip tie double side tape lol
@@russelldye5506 nah, my tv is very thin, cant do that without messing all the setup, it sucks
@russelldye5506 not very ideal I travel alot so I take my chromecast 4k with me everywhere for the hotel rooms i stay at. I love how portable it is and at home i have my tv mounted to the wall. I guess I'll just hang on to the chromecast longer if google is still supporting it with software or I'll get the new Firestick 4K Max. Google is going backwards with this design...... Firestick 4K Max has wifi6 and a even smaller form factor then the chromecast and google still doesn't put wifi 6 with there new settop box lol
I wish there was an ad free option for these streaming devices. That’s the main reason I stick with an Apple TV
Can it compete with the AppleTV 4K 2022 in terms of performance and ad free experience?
An comparision would be nice
No not at all. Google it’s a ad company
The nvidia shield is almost 10 years old but still beats this on basically every level
Has the streamer a built-in microphone for voice commands without using the remote voice commands ?
Can you finally cast your fotos at a higher resolution than 720p? The Google Chromecast 4K only supports casting fotos at a maximum resolution of 720p..
Looks like we've come full circle. Next thing you know, we'll be looking for one provider to have all the content we want to watch in one place and charge us for channels we don't even watch.
Apparently you can pair it with Nest Audio speaker pairs...
Source? This is the only question I have.
why not lol
Will I be able to connect usb stick this time?
I think for that money I'd just rather have anothether Shield TV. The beauty of the Chromecast was what it offered for the price.
Buy it on sale at Black Friday or during the holidays.
When does this release?
Is the EON tv available the market?
no discounts for pre-orders?
I am disappointed. 4 GB Ram is nothing. At least 6 GB would be acceptable. Then only 22% faster after a four year update. Everybody was literally saying to make a device to compete with apple tv and we will pay anything. Then they do shit like this.
I prefer the form factor of the current Chromecast over the desktop of the new one! Hopefully Google will bring that back.
Same here. Looks like im getting the firestick 4k max 16gb then
I don't get it (yet), what are the benefits over the current Chromecast besides being faster, "AI features" and a new remote? The current one also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and I've got the ethernet adapter for a wired connection. Am I missing something, or is there indeed no big reason to upgrade?
thought the exact same whats the point of paying loads for this when the chromecast works perfectly
Still don't get it ! There is no 8k streaming for the next 4 years
Android 14, better remote, hopefully better specs and Ethernet without any adapter
@@rodrigofernety8k is a joke. 4k streaming isn't even optimized yet.
It makes absolutely no sense. They could've just added more RAM and storage to the existing form factor, and even switched out the remote, if they think this new one is better. Who wants to run cables to an extra piece of hardware sitting out on a surface, collecting dust?
why only wifi5? Do they expect everyone to connect with ethernet? The standard is 6E these days.
what's the benefit of Wifi6 on mediocre streaming device?
Newer Wi-Fi standards not only support faster speeds but lower latency. That means it's faster to start playing a video stream. It would have helped to load stuff in on the fly faster as well.
They had 4 years and this is it? I'm a bit disappointed as the Apple TV is so smooth, fast, and ad free and constantly updated. A higher price point but still so worth it. They had all that time and could have put a Tensor G4 in this for example.
I've never seen a company shoot themselves in the foot the way Google does. Known for killing off Google Pay for example, a direct name comparison to Apple Pay, all in favor of Google Wallet with less features. I don't get it!
I need to stock up on Chromecasts…. My TV doesn’t need to be this smart and the way my one year old destroys remotes, I need access to the cheap replacements. 😂
I cant wait for this!!!
Meanwhile, walmarts onn is still leaps better at half the price, a backlit remote, usb port instead of requiring a hub, and acts as a nest being it is a speaker that supports "hey google". So much missed opportunity here.
If They really want to make it a steamer, Google should have made this a device an hdmi pass through for cable TV like Xbox. Everything in one place boom.
Does the remote light up when moved?
Is any of this coming to the UK? We didn't get the latest wired doorbell or thermostat last time 🙄
No official word yet but i'm pretty sure that this new thermostat is USA and Canada only. The Google TV streamer is coming to all countries, so from september also in e.g. the UK.
@@technoguidebe shame about the thermostat, it looks really nice. Thank you for letting me know
Can anyone remember the Nexus Player? Hope Google keeps supporting this.
Uhg. New remote but still no pause button. (anyone using YT and YTTV knows why this is a big deal). 802.11ac = Wi-Fi 5! No 6GHz. Sucks for apartment dwellers. 6GHz sufferers less interference because it cannot penetrate walls as easy, and while it does not need the additional bandwidth, going faster means it is out of the way of other streams.
Lossless bitstream/passthrough from HDMI? Apple TV doesn’t happen to do that without switching to PCM.
And as usual you wont even get all the basic UK TV catchup services in the UK. Absolutely insane to me google trying to compete with apple tv and amazon and for some reason can't seem to get a deal with one of the main uk tv service channels (channel 4)
They need to do a deal with Freely to have a native app. It would be so good to not have to leave Chromecast to watch live TV.
@@siviter yeah, freely was a complete failure. Only shipping it with TVs is absolutely ridiculous and a terrible idea. Channel 4 app is also already available with Sony Android TV's, and not available on any Google or Android TV box. So stupid it's unreal
@@corsinivideos wonder who's at fault here, Google or C4?
@@siviter I've heard C4 may have signed an exclusive android deal with amazon to only support firestick devices unless the app is built in to a TV. Still seems very dubious to me and the fact that Now TV and Apple had no problem securing a deal but somehow google who actually make android can't? Bare in mind also loads of standalone Android TV and Google TV boxes don't even support all the main UK TV catch up services like BBC Iplayer, ITV hubX or Channel 4, just a ridiculous and inconsistent platform. No wonder people don't buy google TV and android TV boxes in the UK when amazon and apple will offer you all catchup services without any ridiculous excuses.
I wonder if the wifi subsystem on this thermostat will last more than a year.
+1
Really disappointing that Google did not include a USB port for my hard drive. I would love to just watch my movies directly on the VLC app. Also no AI upscaling?? For $50 more you can get the shield. This better ship with Android TV 14!!
So first they discontinue the Chromecast Audio so we have to buy an adapter/audio extractor to use a Chromecast on old speakers and now theyre getting rid of the Chromecast entirely. What next
a new Nexus Player, 10 years later. how long till they discontinue this one?
Still waiting for an ON EAR solution from GOOGLE like the air pods max to finally watch movies with headtracking in dolby atmos through the new google tv streamer (24. sep.) !!
Are there any leaks about that for now??
because i dont believe that headtracking on air pods max will work properly with the google tv streamer - would be a surprise if they would...
I prefer the chromecast form factor as you can hide it behind your tv. This new device is going backwards
Does this offer Dolby TrueHD support from Plex? If not, still skipping.
buy good sound bar with many codec support
So does he actually have one or just commenting on what google says it will do? If not then a hands on video would be much better so he can tell us what its really like
Lmaoooo at this price point still not provide wifi 6 even amazon firestick did that already and with more reasonable price.
I was waiting for this, but seems like I'm gonna buy a Nvidia shield 😮💨
Still no support for Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA with all that hardware upgrades 😒
is this confirmed?? should be compatible fire tv max supports truehd
@@lucasolgiati8308 the product page doesn't list it.
Think I'll keep the appletv
Fingers crossed you'll be able to put 3rd party apps on it 😊
You should have no issue sideloading APKs on it.
They need to stop making alternative colors so inaccessible.
I'm heavily invested in the google ecosystem, and google is slowly pushing me towards apple. Years of subpar SoC performance in the their pixel phones, expensive watch with minimal features, and now a mediocre spec update to the chromecast of which I have 2 dongles already and would be looking to replace both. I think this is the year I finally skip on the Pixel 9 pro, and get the new iphone. If everything goes well, i might just end up switching ecosystems.
