Its about how each orc is different, has a unique personality, different dialogue variation for different interactions and scenarios, remembers his relationship with the player and acts accordingly. This game doesn’t have the best story, the nemesis system is the only reason why most people played it, including me. The system is truly unique and has never been implemented in a game before.

To be fair, this is a useful ploy to boost morale by the Overlord. By executing a "spy", you can tell your troops that the enemy is desperate, doing underhanded tactics to get an edge on them in battle. It invokes fury. Righteousness. Everybody HATES being fooled. It's universal. By doing so right before the battle, the Overlord possibly gave his troops more motivation to fight harder against an enemy resorting to underhanded stuff.

I know sometimes he can do so to one of his own anyway, but still.Honestly, I wouldn't know whether to laugh in Noruk's face or reward him with being branded for basically doing my my job for me. XD
the best games are the ones that aren't supervised by the devs. That's why I try to make my games as free of rules as I can (starting by designing the exit point, and then add obstacles on the way there, this way, if the player can find another way to get to the end point/objective, they're free to do so without breaking my game). Grand Theft Auto 3 was like that, the missions were more like "this guy is alive, he needs to not be alive" and you could do it your way. Red Dead Redemption 2 is like "You need to stay close to your gang, but if you stray too far, you'll fail because you abandoned your gang to try to find another way, how else are you going to see the nice cutscene we prepared if you don't walk in through the front door?" That's why I love shadow of mordor/war, I'm sure the devs didn't see it coming, nor did they plan this, it just happens, and it makes for a unique experience for each player.

I sent that orc to spy on one of the overlord's warchiefs, but after a couple of missions he showed up randomly and betrayed me. I didn't even bother to battle him so i just ran away after that lol. Funny how he ended up getting killed anyways after betraying me.
