There is this wonderful moment, albeit during a relatively dark time in the series, where Veronique explains to Franklyn that despite them losing the $73M, they can still keep their portfolio of properties in their community if they decide to sell their stake in the premium downtown property development. For me, more than any other moment in the show, this was the lynchpin which guaranteed Franklyn's downfall. Franklyn flat out refuses to follow Veronique's advice. In fact, he is so disgusted at the idea, he proceeds to put hands on Veronique. For Franklyn the premium downtown property development was the opportunity at apotheosis: a chance at ascension into the moneyed elite and the prestige that came with it. Anything or anyone that attempted to detract from his graduation into the elite would be swiftly dealt with as shown when he chokes his pregnant wife. From Season 1 it is well established that Franklyn has always seen himself as 'above' his surroundings. His mother, misguided at times but sincere in her intensions, fuels this sense of Franklyn being 'too big' for his neighbourhood too. I say sincere because in the dream sequence Franklyn has when he is resurrected Cissy has this phenomenal monologue encouraging Franklyn to keep pursuing his education, keep studying and one day return to his neighbourhood to empower his people through legitimate business and entrepreneurship. Cissy almost sees Franklyn as a Greek figure in the likes of Prometheus - a gifted being capable of bringing fire to the People and taking them out of the darkness. Franklyn however, for all his talk of empowering his people and saving them truthfully never had such intensions. The people Franklyn grew up around are simply a vehicle to achieve his personal aims and he is perfectly comfortable enslaving them to addiction - wrapping them in new 'chains' even more suffocating than the vice grip the whites once had on the blacks through plantation slavery. The right choice in the maelstrom of chaos Franklyn found himself embroiled in would've been to sell his take in the premium downtown properties, pay off the debts on the less attractive local properties he owned, and maintain that portfolio living off of the rental income generated. Franklyn would've had a slightly better than middle class life but he would've truly been 'free': no longer living to the brutal rhythm of the drug business and also liberated from the yolk of the CIA for whom he was doing their bidding. But Franklyn's greed, his pride, and this sick notion he had that he was 'better' than everyone else meant that he couldn't see the forest from the trees and this was ultimately his undoing. Time and time again he was presented with an out but he refused. Avi warned him seasons ago that he should 'never get too greedy, because that's how they get you' and even still, Franklyn didn't listen. He was arrogant and thought he knew better. And so ultimately his punishment was well befitting the avalanche of crimes under his belt. As the old adage goes 'a fool and his money are easily parted'. And for all of his success and all of his posturing as this transcendent intellect in the end Franklyn, by failing this final test and dismissing Veronique's advice, showed us that beneath it all he was a fool.
Im pinning this. It's what my opinion of him has been from the begining, but much more eloquent. He's greedy and prideful, but because people love a come up (because they try to project themselves onto said come up, among other things), most people won't acknowledge that. Acknowledging Franklin's greed and pride, means that you have to acknowledge your own (if you like him). Most people will never be in the position to make $73M, let alone lose it, so they can't fathom losing the money and being content with less.
@@JaneforShort glad you liked my write up :) A big fan of your channel and the contrarian opinions you take which in my opinion are often very correct! Love from London 😃
"Franklin is always unintentionally funny.." To be honest this show was littered with so much unintentional humour that I'm convinced it's on purpose lol 😂
Maybe, but Damson is also unintentionally hilarious all on his own, so it might have just been his acting flair. He's in a film with Anthony Mackie (Outside the Wire I think) and he has some really funny moments in what is mostly a serious Sci Fi thriller lol
@@JaneforShort Yeah, it's an authenticity that he and his colleagues all brought to their respective roles. Like when Carvel was making a whole mess in the trunk and Leon started singing the song on the radio to drown out the noise 😭
I feel like Franklin and Teddy mirror each other as characters, especially towards the end of the show. They bother used the argument "You wouldn't have what you have if it wasn't for me." More so Franklin, saying that to Jerome, Cissy, and Leon. Both destroyed countless lives, both became stone-cold killers, and ended up losing who they were. The only thing I can say Franklin had over Teddy was his self awareness of what he had to do and who he had to become, but he still blamed Teddy, not holding himself accountable. Teddy didn't even try to take accountability for his actions. Bro said I ain't do shit wrong
Our favorite analyst is back!! There were moments in this season that really made me think about how human these characters were. Some endings felt deserved like Gustavo and Leon. And some felt so harrowing Franklin and Louie. It’s awesome seeing someone analysis this show and finding details i couldn’t! Keep up the good work!
that was a powerful ending, because those of us that came up in that time saw people fall off, die, go to prison, or end up disabled some kind of way👍🏽👍🏽
Towards the end of snowfall I was hoping that Franklin got what he deserve. Even though he did, I kind of felt sad for him to see where he came and where he ended up. Also, I hate seeing Louie in that last scene. Almost brought me to tears. It seams that Leon is the only one who made it out okay
I’ve lived a life similar to where Franklin ended up so I definitely feel for him. But he also deserves all the bad things in life for all the evil he’s done.
I want more Snowfall than anyone else, but part of me feels like the show perfectly encapsulated every facet story and the parts deserving of rightful conclusions received them. My fear would be a Snowfall version of The Many Saints of Newark, and unfortunately we all saw how well that went 😞
Your statement is contradictory. If he would’ve lost it anyway why would she have sold it to him? 😂 she knew that would happen one way or the other because he was willing to give anything to get his money back.
@@numsnkx6839 non one in the show is innocent but least of all Franklin and that’s my point. Yes it’s just a show but these things do happen and Franklin saint was based on a real person. If Leon gave him some money at the end all that would do is fuel Franklin down the path he was already on. Franklin is no better with money as an addict is with drugs. No one forced Franklin into this life he understood right from and even after he got in the game he was given several opportunities to change leave etc. And yes he continuously took advantage of his family and their trust him. Thanks for watching!
In the end, I could smell Franklin through the screen😱
They say if drugs did to your body immediately on the outside what they did to you on the inside, no one would do them
breaking Bad and Snowfall have protagonists that are utter monsters but loving them anyway
I see it for Walter White. Breaking Bad in general is more wholesome than Snowfall. Franklin was a monster through and through on every level.
fXX has not green-lit a bad show in a long time
He lost his mama house anyway. She most definitely should've signed it over.

Do analysis on boardwalk. Please
Franklin betrayed EVERYBODY ..... for that money...... he got what he deserved . Cissy was the hero . Period . Leon a real one . The end . Lol
