Exploring a Historic, sort of Abandoned Church

- Hello everyone, and welcome to my latest adventure! In this video, I explore a mostly abandoned, but still relatively maintained Baptist Church. I have been here several times, and I enjoy this hidden bit of history every time I see it...while it's definitely showing its age; the walls are rotting, and the floors are unstable, it's fascinating to see a structure that has stood for over 130 years!
Antioch Baptist dates back to the late 1800s; having a congregation founded by freed slaves from southern Taiaferro and northern Hancock Counties. In 1899 four acres of land was acquired from a local landowner for the church and cemetery, and the structure was erected by a local craftsman. Twin Gothic revival style towers rise above the old tin roof.
Although decendants of the original congregation are said to reunite once a year, the church does not hold regular services.
While this church seems abandoned, my understanding is that people are allowed to visit, and check out the property. There is a donation basket and guestbook inside, and though I've heard services are occasionally still held at the church, I've never encountered anyone there; though it's obvious the church is still relatively maintained.
I hope you enjoy this, and I thank you for watching! As always, I encourage you to like, comment, and subscribe; and I'll do my best to keep bringing you new videos.
As an urban explorer, I don't give out specific location information publicly, and I do not vandalize, steal, destroy, or force entry into locations, and I do my best to respect the integrity of the site and anything associated with it. Urban exploration can be a dangerous and illegal activity, even when proper precautions are made, and I do not intend to encourage or inspire others to undertake this activity due to a direct result of my choices or experiences.
