- A very enjoyable morning spent at Ashford International on the Southeastern Mainline and High Speed 1 where we see plenty of services from Southeastern, Southern and Eurostar.
Ashford International is really a junction station. This I because it has links to the South Eastern Mainline, Marshlink Line and High Speed 1.
The station has gone through several different refurbishments with The first station being built in 1842 by the South Eastern Railway, the station was formally opened on December 1st.
It remained the property of the South Eastern Railway until Southern took control in 1923, once this happened they then renamed the station Ashford Kent.
Once British Rail was introduced in 1948 a lot of the former services were getting changed and newer ones introduced to meet with the growing demand of passengers.
Eventually Network Southeast took over operations when BR privatised its network.
The station went through a major redevelopment when the Kent Electrification Scheme went through its second phase, this resulted in two former bay platforms being converted into through lines and the former station buildings on the left and right of the railway were demolished and replaced with an over bridge that contains a booking hall, newsagents and catering facilities.
The station eventually became known as Ashford International in the 1990's when the plans for the European Services were introduced by Eurostar. This in turn then brought 2 new platforms into the equation to split the regional and international services.
Currently Eurostar don't stop at Ashford. And I haven't got the faintest idea when they are ever gonna restart the service.
My next station is Pluckley.

Your videos are absolutely fantastic
Epic spotting session. I found out why the Margate trains are busy. Del Boy and The Jolly Boys outing are finally on their way home after they coach blew up :-D
Haha, that would certainly explain it!
Hi Tornado922. Great film at Ashford International. Looking forward to watching the next film at Pluckley. Kind regards, Chris.
Thanks once again Chris
Another awesome video. User to use Ashford station to catch the train to go fishing at Ramsgate via Wye brings back great memories. Looking forward to pluckley video. Once again thank you for posting such great content. Regards to yourself and the family
Thanks ever so much for your continued support!
Great film at Ashford International
Thank you kindly
Great video mate! It was a great experience to spend time train spotting there with you 😊
Thanks very much bud, it was a great time spent out with you!
@@Tornado922 thanks it was nice meeting you as well 😊
Superb video. Glad you got some Eurostar action. 😀
Thanks very much, one of the only reasons I like coming here is because of the fly-over and the highspeed services using it
Nice video. HS1 is a good mainline to trainspot
Thanks very much, I just wish there were some European operators using HS1 as well as Eurostar
@@Tornado922I had heard rumours about Virgin trains on the HS1 and will go where the Eurostar goes but HS1 would be better if DB ice trains use it as well.
@@Tornado922And no problem
Really looking forward for the southeastern mainline series jarred, been watching you for about 8 years now and I’m really looking forward to seeing some films down my local line, gonna keep an eye out for all the videos and looking forward too hopefully seeing a return of Tonbridge 👍🏻
It's a bit of a mission to get them done so far but I am slowly working my way up the line towards London. I am grateful that you have been following my channel for so long now
Wonder if you could do a spot at Dagenham Dock, on the c2c line. Just like Rainham (Essex), it goes right next to the HS1, where you can see 395s and Eurostar at speed. With a bit of luck, you could also see some freight on the proper c2c line.
Great video at Ashford. Even months later, it still feels weird to see 3-car 171s in Southern.
I have been looking at going there for quite some time now. When I get a chance I will head out that way and see what I can do
Great video at Ashford International Jarred. Shame no 373s making appearance it would be good if one turned up some of the 374s have a new Eurostar logos on them which is very nice. I think Eurostar will operate/stop at Ebbsfleet and Ashford on 2025.
I think pretty much all of the Eurostars have got the new logo on them including the 373 sets.
Be careful in Pluckley - years ago it was seen as a haunted place!
I rather like the idea of a haunted station
Nice video. Hs1 is very good.
Thanks very much, HS1 could be even better if we had some European operators running into and out of London
Love ashford
It's a nice station
The reason why international services to/ from Britain will not be to/ from places north of Birmingham is that budget airlines makes flying cheaper and faster for places like Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Scotland
This is where the railway companies need to drastically alter their pricing structure if they are to compete price wise. Even if it means a slightly longer journey time
such a utilitarian station, just like Mkt Harb except bigger (& with better trains!)
They could do so much with this station!
Hello m8
Hello
Our country has far more greater issues like Health and immigration and you want a new rail link nobody is asking for. So naive
This is a railway based channel......congratulations
@@Tornado922all im saying is funding for the railways now is much better spend elsewhere and not until these issues are ticked off should we be having the discussion about silly transport projects
