Man, you had it easy! My experience was completely different here in Broward County, Florida. Hannibal, on my channel, was built from all new parts and the rules were not clear as to what the County DMV was supposed to do. It took me 15 months and two trips to Tallahassee before my car was finally assigned a VIN. My advice to anyone contemplating building a complete car in Florida or in any other State is to talk to your local DMV BEFORE you start spending money, because the process can be easy or very hard.
O wow. That sounds like a major headache. Yes that is very sound advice. Florida appeared to not have any consistent rules and regulations for getting this done online so I ended up going to my local DMV then to the regional DMV to get clear answers

Hey man, I'm in Tampa and am building a FFR Cobra as we speak. It's running, but still go-kart stage. I'm concerned about something you said. I built my engine from parts, and bought the trans used (also rebuilt) off Craigslist. Will the DMV give me trouble? I don't have the VIN's they came out of.
Yes they will, you will have to have vin numbers for the engine and transmission or a new purchase receipt. I will say that they don’t check for physical numbers on the engine or transmission so if you are able find the engine and transmission you have for sale or in a junk yard you may be able to figure something out
