The way he always plays his guitar with ease while doing the craziest chord progressions and riffs and at the same time sings perfectly brings me to the conclusion that he is an alien. And no - you cannot compare him to Ed Sheeran or any other. He has a completely unique style. I love it
I figured it out later the day after I herd it.... well the basics anyway. Had to listen a few more times to get some of his technical parts down though.
If they compare them it's probably in their song writing .. Lyrics and stuff. Everyone knows including Ed Sheeran himself that he doesn't play guitar like John... He even says in an interview that he isn't that great at guitar. He just knows how to get the sound that he's lookin for.
+Hugh Jass lyrics are a personal comparison but for me personally I would have to say that john mayer wins that round too. I've heard probably two or three songs by ed sheeran that can compare with john mayer's songwriting skill.
Not a really fan of his pop stuff's, but love his guitar skills, has an incredible blues rhythm. This guy is one of the best guitar players around, a master in Eric Clapton's words.

You listen to it and it has a great groove to it, you listen to it again and the lyrics are great, you listen to it to a third time and you appreciate the technique on the guitar. Come back to it a month later and its another experience, really good shit
and i am reading this comment, watching video (yet again) 6 years later…😉2023
Hi John Mayer. I'm a italian guitar and you are my favourite guitar player.
I'm ready for your new album "Back to the blues".
Nicola Sacchetti Even the Guitar itself writes it down for John Mayer.
- What do you want to be when you grow up ?
- John Mayer
The way he always plays his guitar with ease while doing the craziest chord progressions and riffs and at the same time sings perfectly brings me to the conclusion that he is an alien.
And no - you cannot compare him to Ed Sheeran or any other. He has a completely unique style. I love it
Ed Sheeran is great but John Mayer is musically next level imo. Absolutely brilliant guitarist
Always liked John Mayer and respected him. Now that I’m trying to learning guitar I’m just blown away.
He sure can play a mean guitar!
Roger Anari I hear he's good at playing nice ones too :P
Sha Lin
It would bite if too close
Love this, John. Hopefully, we can get to chat on the air one of these days and talk about music in the 80s!
This guy is just too good his voice and talent with the old geeeetar is beyond amazing
how on earth does he manage to sing along to such a difficult song to play on guitar, and that goes for his other stuff too.Genius.
All he has to say is 'cool', but you can just tell he is thinking 'Have fun learning that one ;)'
For sure 😂😂😂😂
Absolutely! hhahaha I've been struggling to learn this shit for over a month and I'm not even close.
I figured it out later the day after I herd it.... well the basics anyway. Had to listen a few more times to get some of his technical parts down though.
😂😂😂😂😂
@Stinkmeaner Justin Guitar has a really good TH-cam video tutorial on this song. Look him up.
the amount of hours it takes to play like that so effortlessly and sing on top of it is unbelievable. truly a master.
Anyone that compares Ed Sheeran to John Mayer probably can't tell the difference in skill level between Hendrix and Frehley.
If they compare them it's probably in their song writing .. Lyrics and stuff. Everyone knows including Ed Sheeran himself that he doesn't play guitar like John... He even says in an interview that he isn't that great at guitar. He just knows how to get the sound that he's lookin for.
***** there is not comparision between Mayer an Sheeran, Sheeran sing beautifull, Mayer make beautiful in everlasting...
+Hugh Jass lyrics are a personal comparison but for me personally I would have to say that john mayer wins that round too. I've heard probably two or three songs by ed sheeran that can compare with john mayer's songwriting skill.
Yeah I mean they are both great lyricist but to each their own :) they both are awesome
+Dan L FU JOHN ALL DAY!!
Not a really fan of his pop stuff's, but love his guitar skills, has an incredible blues rhythm. This guy is one of the best guitar players around, a master in Eric Clapton's words.
I really admire a person who recorded this. I would just forget to use a camera and just stare at this playing.
His acoustic songs especially inspire me I'm gonna grab my guitar and sing for a while
Most don’t know this but he blew out his voice recording the record born and raised.
His voice is blown out in this performance
Pink Floyd and John Mayer are a few of my fav artists. While Pink floyd sticks to the original version in the live shows, John Mayer "never" plays the same as in the studio version. I respect them for what they do.
I just heard this song on Spotify the other day for the first time, and I don't need any more evidence of how amazing of a guitar player and song writer John Mayer is. Incredible.
John Mayer is The Musical Genius 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
