pnut3844able not pretentious man, it just might not apply to you. I struggle with putting on a face for everyone to try and show them that I’m “mature for my age” when in reality I’m not and it has cost me enjoyment to just live in the moment. I’m happy that I’m realizing it now. What is pretentious to act like you’re “all that” to impress people and have them think highly of you, you’re lying to yourself and those around you, and you make yourself seem less approachable. ( I’m not talking about u when I say “you”, just talking in general)
@@pnut3844able ... I don't think you know what pretentious means. It's actually much closer to the opposite of that. A pretentious statement would be that people didn't care at first until I change their mind. Not really in the same realm that his comment was... he was just saying that he invested a lot of time and energy into setting things up/creating things for certain people who didn't care. Wasted energy doing things for people who don't appreciate it in the least. That's not pretentious... its closer to self-deprecating in that he's saying he was very naive and got taken advantage of essentially which caused him no shortage of misery just worded in a different way.

I have watched this performance so many times; I have forgotten how many. But in my opinion this is the best live performance ever, John’s stage presence was otherworldly, his vocals didn’t overpower the guitars and vice versa it was absolutely frictionless. Like I really couldn’t find one flaw with this. And every time I listen to this it just puts me in this state of euphoria where it just makes me feel like everything is gonna be alright. John Mayer is the epitome of talent
My people that keep coming back to this song each year understand how important it is. It isn't just a cover. It is arguably one of Mayers greatest performances of all time.
+Phil McIndoe I was there, it was a cold rainy night in LA. And this whole show had everyone's jaws on the floor. Still the best "listening music" concert i've ever been to. I was a 17 year old pup, who didn't know what he was listening to would one day become pretty damn iconic.
These comments give me hope. I am an amateur musician, 40 years now, and I see how the industry and artist have changed. Some popular artist are amazing but others, I just can't get into. John Mayer is the quintessential musician of our time. He is an amazing guitar player, no doubt, but his version of this cover is his testament that you can both pay respect to a great artist like Tom Petty and yet create your own rendition that is as great as the original. Just amazing and moving. If you don't feel anything when you hear this version, well I feel for you. 😊
That's not necessarily true, Bob Dylan's 1967 album contained a song titled, "All Along The Watchtower." Six months later Jimi Hendrix covered "All Along The Watch Tower" in his album "Electric Ladyland," where Hendrix’s version became a Top 20 single in 1968 and was ranked 47th in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This may debunk your statement about comparisons. There are many more which can be cited, but let's let this one be a "classic" example"
I found John Mayer a few days ago and I'm in LOVE! He's got a beautiful voice, amazing guitarist, and I love the way he smiles in the middle of the song, after a particular note or chord, and that smile just melts my heart ❤
I'd be honored if some John Mayer fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of his early masterpieces CLARITY and QUIET on my YT channel in tribute to the boss. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
hi Michelle, TH-cam doesn't like links in comments, but if you YT search my name with John Mayer you should find me easily. Or just tap on my photo there to go straight to my channel. Thanks for asking.
He has this relatable, down to earth quality to him. He is a world renowned superstar, and yet, every time I listen to him, be it his songs, his interviews, whatever, I feel like this guy is just a more successful version of me. He could have been this friend we all have from high school, talented but too shy to make it. He could have been this brother who guides you through life with words of widsom and neverending support. Very few artists are able to navigate and stay themselves without being eaten alive. Mark Knopfler comes into mind as a bit of the same type for me. I flew all the way from France just to see Mayer live last year, and will also see him in Paris in march. He's become, through his songs, a dear friend to me rather than an artist.
Still here in 2022. John made this song his own with his beautiful vocal. The whole of this live concert is the best I've ever seen. Such a talented performer with bucket loads of charisma . He's still got it all ....my favourite . Gets me through the best and worst of times. Forever grateful for John and his music.
I agree man. The way he performed this song, is otherworldly. The guitar sequence in the beginning of Shallow by Lady Gaga reminds me of this record for whatever reason.
I'd be honored if some old-school John Mayer fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of his early masterpieces CLARITY and LOVE SOON on my YT channel in tribute to the boss. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and Happy '020s to all.
@@elidaniel5939 Its not about the number of chords its about the way you use those chords. I have been playing this for last 8 years and i don't think anything more beautiful can be made by just keeping it so easy.
I disagree since the main hook in Tom Petty's was done with a 12string which gives it that distinct tone. (When I play the song, I always use my 12 rather than the usual acoustic) John's voice has a certain quality that Tom couldn't do. (Not to say Tom's original is less that John''s cover, both are brilliant)
its true.....men have become soft these days our ancestors will be ashamed! men need to go back to when men were men, ate, drank worked 7 days a week, woman slaved over the kitchen whilst we men made love to them and bore our children then left and returned weeks, months later with a wilderbeast strapped to our backs back to the days were men did not cry, were men were men and woman were woman.
I used to sing this on the street with a homeless musician in England from time to time. He's dead now, and coming back to this always reminds me of him, in a beautiful way.

I can't even hear the original version in my head anymore. I loved it so much, immediately listened again. Still got goosebumps the second time! I guess for me this is my favorite version now ❤
I'd be honored if some old-school John Mayer fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal TH-cam performances of his early masterpieces CLARITY and QUIET in tribute to the boss. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Peace and stay safe.
The smoothness of its delivery sounds like it's a studio version not live. Best live performances john has IMO
BRANDON so much so this became the album version.
I'd be honored if some John Mayer fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of his early masterpieces CLARITY and LOVE SOON on my YT channel in tribute to the boss. Live acoustic with no digital enhancements. Thanks and peace out.
«The biggest mistake I made that cost me a lot of enjoyment in my life, was assuming that everybody cared, they don’t” - John c Mayer

Kinda pretentious
@@jonasinabox th-cam.com/video/A2wsTv3zVD0/w-d-xo.html
pnut3844able not pretentious man, it just might not apply to you.
John Mayer has music in his bones. Amazing.
Beautiful voices ,perfect example of god and his creation being perfect in his and our vision.❤
Lyrics
She's a good girl, loves her mamma
Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too, yeah, yeah
It's a long day livin' in Reseda
There's a freeway running through the yard
I'm a bad boy 'cause I don't even miss her
I'm a bad boy for breaking her heart
And I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
And I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
All the vampires walkin' through the valley
They move west down Ventura Boulevard
And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows
And the good girls are home with broken hearts
And I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
Now I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
Free fallin', now I'm
Free fallin', now I'm
Free fallin', now I'm
Free fallin', now I'm
Free fallin', now I'm
Free fallin', now I'm
Free fallin', now I'm
Free fallin'
I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her, her name in the sky
I wanna free fall out into nothin'
Oh, I'm gonna leave this, this world for a while
Now I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
Now I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
And I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
Now I'm free
Free fallin', fallin'
Free fallin', fallin'
Free fallin', fallin'
Free fallin', fallin', yeah, yeah
Thank you very much

this man is a blessing I love how his music has that authentic speaking to your soul kind of style
I love it
There's just something about the way he sings this. You can tell he's just feeling it.
Now watch the Axl Rose/Tom Petty performance
October 2024 🙌
How cool to have an eternal impact on the human race with your art. Thanks John Mayer ❤️
My people that keep coming back to this song each year understand how important it is. It isn't just a cover. It is arguably one of Mayers greatest performances of all time.
One of the best covers of all time.
John Mayer's voice is the only thing that can save my lonely ass from depression
Found this song in lockdown and still listen to it today great performance
The best cover of free falling and theres no dispute in that !
hoenstly i think this one is 10x better
Can you imagine being in that crowd that day listening to this live like omg
+Phil McIndoe I was there, it was a cold rainy night in LA. And this whole show had everyone's jaws on the floor. Still the best "listening music" concert i've ever been to. I was a 17 year old pup, who didn't know what he was listening to would one day become pretty damn iconic.
+TheJordaddy35 dude not to be mean or anything but you look like you are 40 or 50

This entire performance “where the light is” is still killer from start to finish
Soul connections can’t be denied my beautiful friend. I thank GOD FOR YOU!😘😘💕
I physically cant understand how amazing he is at singing
And even Eric Clapton is amazed at his guitar 🎸 proficiency
@John Mayer lol faker. Gtfo

Imagine being at this concert and being able to hear this live! Unbelievable! Made it his own definitely!
To me there are only two ways to do a cover. Either do it the same or make it your own. He definitely made it his own with this one. Amazing cover.
I would die for this!
No please leave the original to Tom petty
Just saw him at Madison Square Garden-He did it again and actually pushed it a little harder with the high vocals. He outdid this one. Epic.
@@Laura-ck3bp do you have any Video? Is it possible to see it somewhere ? Lucky you!!!
Give anybody else goosebumps? Especially the last quarter of the song?! Such a superb cover.
Olá muito linda sua musica
Brasil i Love you
These comments give me hope. 😊
You never EVER compare the original with a tribute.
Yes you do, of course you do. I love listening to cover versions and seeing how they compare to the original.
I've heard covers which I enjoy more than the original.
(This isn't included in that category)
You still listening to him?

@@willritter4076 I looked for it ?? What's ur link ?
hi Michelle, TH-cam doesn't like links in comments, but if you YT search my name with John Mayer you should find me easily. Or just tap on my photo there to go straight to my channel. Thanks for asking.
I know John Mayer personally. He is one of the nicest, most genuine people I know. Extremely smart, articulate and genuine.
How do you know him may i ask?
Every song of john is meant to be heard at night.
this is not john's song
I was lucky enough to see both the original artist play this live and then Mayer years later.
Awesome
That’s pretty dope, I’ve met Tom Petty and John Mayer two different occasions. Miss you Tom.
Wow. Nice experience I love this song this is my favorite version. How are you Mexicansage ?
Hello beautiful how are you doing hopefully you are doing good??
John Mayer is like a dose of the best medicine that cures any illness.
Still the best version of this song ever - used to watch where the light is dvd after school everyday for a year when it first released

Yes. I love this video what unique voice nice lyrics. How are you Karen ?
Still here in 2022. John made this song his own with his beautiful vocal. The whole of this live concert is the best I've ever seen. Such a talented performer with bucket loads of charisma . He's still got it all ....my favourite . Gets me through the best and worst of times. Forever grateful for John and his music.
I want to apologise to this man for not listening to any of his songs any time soon. Such a beautiful voice. At 3:15👌🏾

I agree man. The way he performed this song, is otherworldly. The guitar sequence in the beginning of Shallow by Lady Gaga reminds me of this record for whatever reason.
Have passed almost fourteen years old and it's still a very nice song... John Mayer, I hope your music never ends
His voice is everything...
I’ll do anything to go back in time to witness this masterpiece live

Seriously this is the best background music you ever heard? It’s only a few chords lmao
@@elidaniel5939 Its not about the number of chords its about the way you use those chords. I have been playing this for last 8 years and i don't think anything more beautiful can be made by just keeping it so easy.
I LOVE this. Great blend of voices, harmony and guitars. SO good.
There's something in John's voice that makes this song a bit more amazing than the original.
Bartman954
I'd say guitar more that vocals
I disagree since the main hook in Tom Petty's was done with a 12string which gives it that distinct tone. (When I play the song, I always use my 12 rather than the usual acoustic) John's voice has a certain quality that Tom couldn't do. (Not to say Tom's original is less that John''s cover, both are brilliant)
Bartman954 well said.
