    Frankly, it's a great fly that's simple to tie. That being said, I downsized it to a much smaller hook and tied a half dozen micro streamers hor trout fishing. I have no doubt it will work for them. Well done young man!

    I grew up in Kailua Kona my dad always said pink white and blue skirts for aku and it worked well .. fast forward decades I move to Hilo and following my dad’s teachings I went with pink blue and white but did not do so well so i cut open a akus belly and found they were eating orange shrimp so I switched to orange skirts and bam I got more bites … maybe Hilo is in some kind of weird zone

    Great video! I'm in the process of tying some skirts for a ballyhoo dredge rig. I'm using Mylar, flashabou, and crystal flash. Do you have any recommendations for how bushy they should be? I don't want them to mess up how the ballyhoo are swimming. I appreciate any advice! Tight lines!

      Shoots I’m sorry I don’t know off hand but just choose the size that you think would work for you cause I think I could go a size down or up and I would catch… but in the tray at Nanko’s was the one kinda in the middle , it’s about $3.50 a hook or something , Hope this help a little

    • @onfirefishinghawaii

    Do you just run these flies straight to a leader without any lead or bubble float?

    • @onfirefishinghawaii
      @onfirefishinghawaii  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup just mainline to barrel swivel to 30-50 fluorocarbon leader straight to fly… if you see the birds by the buoy they going bite at the surface 🤙

      Sorry I don’t know the size off hand , I just went to Nanko’s and got the Japan ones that was about $3 per hook
      I think the were about 1.5 inches , so just think of it as use the hook for the size of fish you trying to catch…
      I’ve caught 40 lbs on em, but sometimes they swallow it and I’ll lose em…
