As a retired firefighter I totally agree with your decision to not be in the road. I had several close calls and had someone hit the rear end of the fire engine with all the lights on. Recently we had two firefighters and a police officer killed working an accident. Be safe and Happy New Year!
Retired otr driver here, I've been all over the US and when you hit somewhere around that 2 million mile mark you've seen just about everything, but watching how some of the people in the 4 wheelers drive scares me to death.😅
My brother drove ambulance in King County Washington. He was on a run at rush hour trying to get an opening onto I-5 with all lights and sirens going. Drunk ran into the back of their rig with the comment "I never saw you!"

On the positive side, he (the driver) did get it off the road (albeit a subpar location) and had gotten the rears caged out for you (correctly even), so it could have been worse. Weather cooperated too. What grade did the supervising horse end up giving you??
Since you asked, I vote back it out, haul it to the store where there's room and do your switch there wo pulling the shaft (but of course I have no idea how much room is there but sounds like more than you have where you are).. Lol! Always easier when you aren't the one doing the work! Of course this idea is way too late LOL.

I worked for 34 years as a Traffic Control Flagger on state highways. So I know what you are talking about Casey. October 20, 2021 I was hit by a driver on hwy 138 east of Roseburg, OR. And the driver was not even drunk. Just in too big of a hurry. Douglas County DA nailed him for reckless endangerment of a highway worker. A class A misdemeanor in Oregon.

we old timers used a timber, lift truck up, put timber under drive shaft and lower truck will pop the cups out. back then we did not have cordless power tools of remote controls for the lift. thansk

The person who engineers that brake pedal did a terrible job. That pedal should not be able to come off unless it is 200% intended. Also the use of plastic for these parts is highly questionable. Glad you made it out. Happy New Year
Happy New Year ! I would have to have a small magnetic bowl for the bolts and universal joint caps because I would lose them in the grass or even the asphalt for that matter. Since I am giving unsolicited advice, I would have also wished I had a pneumatic impact wrench as a back up for those stubborn jobs.

Just a tip which you might know but don’t like to do, but if it’s a manual transmission you can run air to the truck, flip it into high gear, and you’d be able to pull it without causing damage especially if you want to just get it out of a dangerous area and to a spot where you can hook up to it safely from the back.

There are people running into plow/salt trucks pretty often, it's scary how dumb the general motoring public has become in the past couple decades

When I started towing, We didn't have tiger tools. We used sledgehammers and 6x6's. And all the driveshafts where press in.

Put magnets on your lower boom to hold the retention pins while reconfiguring your relievers so they don't fall.

Some State laws require it. But they don't require strobes, the rotary beacons are better.
