- A major Indigenous-run housing development project is one step closer to becoming a reality. Today, the City of Vancouver and the Squamish First Nation signed a service agreement for The Sen̓áḵw project, which promises 6,000 new rental units to the lands just south of the Burrard Street Bridge. Some nearby residents have raised concerns, but Indigenous leaders say the project is an important step in reconciliation.
A great side-effect of landback could be defeating the nimby stranglehold over development and actually legalizing housing.
Nothing better than watching nimbys get angry
The density is outlandish? This is right next to the downtown of one of the biggest cities in Canada. The low density of their neighbourhood is what's outlandish!
Apart from the density, what about all the "neighbours" who have had a view of downtown and the mountains? And ....who is paying for this project and how is it being paid?

How ironic that the Squamish Nation is designing buildings in their own territory without consulting the people living there. Karma is alive and well. 😌I can’t wait to see the buildings!

I used to live in Kitsilano. The residents in Kits Point are a privileged group and it is time that the Squamish Nation gets their own land back for their people. I would rather have more places for people to live instead of parks for the privileged elite to walk their dogs. The land where the Squamish Nation is building has been unused for many years.

I like it. Finally a First Nations group doing something for their people that I can support and cheer them on for. Hopefully it's handled well till the end. I don't know the finer details, but should this generate revenue in the end, I sincerely hope that all that money doesn't get funnelled into the pockets of one or two people. It should go towards education. Doesn't have to mean university, or a bachelors degree. That's not for everybody, but a trade or something, to lead them to a better life.

Way to ruin the place
It was ruined when it was STOLEN from the Squamish. Now you are criticizing them for wanting to build housing on their own land so that you can instead just keep using THEIR LAND as a park?
