    I completely agree with you:
    The system is simple (quite basic, really), which is a good thing, as it makes it cheaper. However,the lack of proper and available information, especially service information, causes a great deal of issues.
    Due to my wife pouring too much oil in the engine, I had an issue where the oil came up through the pipes you cleaned in this video, and clogged the air inlet. My air filter was half soaked in oil.
    This left the engine not working properly, as: (a) the oil was getting inside the combustion chamber, (b) the throttle body was being soaked in oil, while also (c) the engine was struggling to get air in.
    This was quite difficult to pin point the exact issue, thus, expensive to diagnose.
    All because this system is hidden, and there is very few service information available.
    Moreover, a valve controlling the system could prevent my issue from happening - alltough I admit it was user-error which started the issue.
    Therefore, thank you for this video!
    Cheers from Portugal.

    Great video. So no Vaico breather diaphragm on these then? Unless there is one somewhere inside that cover? I guess no one would ever know unless someone butchers one open. Great work though again thanks

    Also one handy advice for cleaning those hoses, I tried with the brush like yours and for small hose it's possible to clean it but for longer one I used regular coper wire and small piece of rag attached to the end so i needed to pull it cople of times but did the job. Also I know it's not advisable but brake cleaner was game changer, a lots of black gunk went out, and quickly after I wash it with water just to remove any leftovers from brakecleaner not to leave it soaking the rubber.

    OMG OMG You finally demistified question where PCV valve on this engine is, since I asked bunch of experts and no one provided me an answer, also my Clio is making mayo last cople of years and everyone told me this is cause of bad oil or short drive. Also rocker cover seal is demaged and there is oil everywhere. If I ware closer I would drive you my car for inspection.

    Best idea is using pressure washer with hot water and cleaning chemicals.

    Hello there, thanks for this amazing video!
    I have a D4Ft 1.2 TCe engine. Intercooler and intake pipes full soaked with oil, also going inside the throttle body.
    Turbo was changed, compression on the rings is good. I will replace this week the valve stem seals.
    I was thinking of cleaning the rocker cover, is there no valve inside? Just chambers to clean?
    What would a blocked rocker cover cause?
    Because I'm having a little of oily white smoke after idling for 30 seconds.

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am not sure with the turbo engine as I have never taken one apart. But why was the turbo changed? I would think a failing turbo a far more likely cause of all that oil. The pipes should have been cleaned when the turbo was replaced.

      Car had 230.000 km. Turbo started to fail and eating some oil.
      Pipes were all cleaned, even the intake system, but never thought of cleaning the pcv system.
      Rings are ok, turbo is new... how is it that my intake system is full of oil?
      Will be changing the valve stem seals in the next week.

Has had a new catalytic converter, new pre-cat lambda sensor, new IAT sensor, cleaned throttle body, new coil pack, new plugs. Idles at the factory 650RPM however its shaky. I had my cover off and cleaned it with some spray cleaner and blew it dry with compressed air - and let it dry over night. The leaking valvecover gasket is for sure the blockage of the "pcv". Did a oil change and had the valves adjusted. Fillerneck was fully clean and after the drive the sludge i back in there. I might need to do the gasket again - as i bought the version with 2 cap ends and had to cut it at the flywheel end and had to silicone the seam and so on.

      I changed the gasket now for the correct one - was leaking a lot again. I soaked the cover in hot water and degreaser too. I have a oil burner as well - but a change to 5w40 seem to have helped somewhat - i def have more mayo then there should occur, and i take of the pipes once a month now to check and clean them. This system is really a shitshow for sure..

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no valve as such to go bad, my guess would be that the oil is getting into the combustion from somewhere else if it is significant. No you cannot do that, you will have a vacuum leak on the inlet unless you blank the pipe and the gases from the open rocker port could potentially end up in the cabin, not to mention emission concerns.

    Hi mate,
    I changed the valve cover gasket on my gf’s 2003 Clio 2 1.2 16v a few months ago and also cleaned the cover with hot water and break cleaner. Unfortunately I didn’t deeply clean it as you did. Anyway after the repair the car was smoother and seemed to deliver more power than before. However it’s been 6 months now and the car starts again to go limp mode, or is often unable to go over 3000rpms. Do you think a dirty valve cover and PCV system could cause the throttle body to fail ?
    Best regards ✌️

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, I would doubt that the PCV system could cause such a big issue especially after such a recent clean. If the car is going in to limp mode then you should have a code to help give you a direction. I'd suggest scanning for codes and seeing what you have.

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I' afraid I haven't dealt with one before. I cannot even find it in the Renault manual. The system is a pipe running from the rocker cover to a pressure sensing valve then into the air intake somewhere before the turbo. I would look for pictures of it and try to find it simply by looking.

    Is the “mayo” a chemically produced product or simple oil and water mix? Would idling a hot engine for some time with the oil cap off allow that water to escape?

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is oil vapour mixed with condensation yes. A good run may reduce it but if it has turned to sludge then there is no substitute for manual removal.

      So that would be the F4R engine? These I believe have a separate oil decanter bolted to the top of the rocker cover. Inlet manifold off job. No valves as I can see in the system and works in the same way as the system on this car. Pipes and a decanter to clean.

  • @guilhermeg345

    I just checked the pcv pipes and they had the mayo. Used a wire to poke the hole in the back of the rocker cover and clean some more. Am I right in thinking if I can't blow air through that hole the pcv system is clogged or is there a one way valve or something?

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have removed the rocker cover then yes you should be able to blow air though it the is no valve. If it is still on the engine then it will be like blowing into a bottle, the only way out for the air will be past the gaskets and they may start to leak.

      It solved the small oil leak. Can't really say that the valve clearance adjustment improved engine performance. Top end seems a little quieter but I might just be imagining that.
