    This is the best car fixing tutorials here on youtube. Thank to you I managed to adjust valves in my Twingo 2 (same engine). I first used the values from the Renault manual, that were to tight. Car did misfire after reasembly. Watching Your move helped a lot. Thank You for a high quality content and greetings from Poland. The car is less noisy when cold started and I also have cleaned a lot of mayonnaise from the rocker cover. My wife uses it in poor conditions for 2, 3km commutes so the engine is cold all the time thats where this cones from probably.

    Here because at 145k miles, it’s possibly needing checked on our 8-valve 1.2 production year 2000. Haynes manual says it’s not a scheduled maintenance item. This I can understand, as very often as long as they are ‘loose enough’, no end of tinkering with these makes a darn if a difference to a lot of engines (not talking specialist cars here). It’s a bit hard to know with some of this stuff, three examples being: cam belts, recommended at 70k miles but dare you wait, Haynes says 40k miles intervals; automatic transmissions’ ‘lifelong transmission fluid’ they have said for years don’t change it (terrible advice in most but not all cases); manual gearbox oil definitely can do with changing before 70k miles, it can be the difference between seeming like all synchromesh has gone, and everything working fine. Thanks anyway, take care all. [Edit: the D7F 8-valve engine from y2k, is 0.10mm inlet, and 0.20mm exhaust].

    When you slide the crevice meter with the middle value, then move the valve pusher up and down, if you feel the slack, you know that you still need to tighten the valve pusher. Then try to insert the fracture meter with the middle value, if it does not enter, put in a slit meter with low value, and move the pusher up and down. If there is a felt slack, then setting the slack on the valves is correct. Do not regulate the slack with a slit inserted because you are arranging it, tightening the pusher you knead its thickness.
    Gdy wsuniesz szczelinomierz z środkową wartością, to poruszaj popychaczem zaworu w górę i w dół, jeśli wyczujesz luz to wiesz że jeszcze trzeba dokręcić popychacz zaworu. Następnie spróbuj włożyć szczelinomierz z środkową wartością , jeśli nie wejdzie, to włóż szczelinomierz z niską wartością, i poruszaj popychaczem w górę i w dół.

    Hi, I've done the clearance adjustment on my mk3. Im not a mechanic but im mechanically minded, and i have done lots of things including clearance settings with my father years ago, so it's not alien to me, howeveri wasn't sure how much of a drag should i feel. I aimed for a decent drag at the middle of the spec (0.28 as my camshaft has a groove) so 0.33 didn't fit in at all, 0.28 had a drag. Same on the exhaust, but with 0.38 and 0.43 didn't go through. Long story short, car sounds better, no more rattling when the engine is cold. Sometimes it takes a little bit more crank when starting up. I'd say 2 rotations more by the sound. When I press the accelerator from idle(in neutral) first it goes down for a second to 500ish rpm, then it goes up fine. Idle is about at 600, I'd say it's like before. Do you guys think I messed up the clearance setting by setting it too tight? Or is it the throttle body if I accidentally knocked it when handling it, maybe the fuel system? Should I re check settings just to make sure?
    I need to mention I had 99 octane fuel and an injector cleaner additive into the tank right after the job.
    Thanks for anyone's help.

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what you say it would seem you have set the clearances well.
      Did you disconnect the battery so that the ECU is relearning adaptive values?
      Also I would certainly wait until the tank has run through so that all the cleaner has come through.

    • @nagyistvan9063
      @nagyistvan9063 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SocketsAndSideburns thanks for the reply. Battery was disconnected. I'm looking into the map sensor and throttle body now, I'll give them a good clean before doing anything else. I had a motorway blast at 70-80mph for an hour and it was all good, no issues, great sounding engine. I also mention, i tried to clean the gunk from the rocker cover and pipes, the breather is clean, but the rocker cover is not 100% good, I ran out of degreaser so there's definitely more gunk under the top cover.

    I was unsure about the slit/groove and it helped to be fully sure where i needed to look - my engine has the groove.. As i had a good amount of leaks from the valve cover i might as well check the clearance. Wanted to go for the angle method , but ill have a go at the exhaust method too after watching..

    I have Clio Storia 1,2 8V 2009, 135000km, recently a drove a car to the mechanic for preventive valve clearance adjustment. When I don't use a car longer then 3-4 days I hear clicking sound from cylinder head when started cold, after 2-3 minutes when engine warms up clicking sound disappear. I did not heard that before valve adjustment, I changed the oil recently and top up to the max. Should I readjust valves or this is normal when engine is not started for a period of 3-4days.

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like they may have been set a little loose. When the engine gets up to temp the clearances are decreasing and eliminating the noise. If it was me I'd go in and check the clearances myself. Remember to do it with the engine cold and to get the 8v engine clearances.

    When rotating the engine, is it very bad to go a tiny bit backwards (counterclockwise) if one overshoots the correct point?

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not good practice, the main reason is that you can jump a tooth on the timing belt potentially.

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very difficult to say I'm afraid. I would recommend doing it if you can hear valve noise or if you need to take the rocker cover off anyway.

  • @mikaelandersson2338
    @mikaelandersson2338 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is it unusual to have the cylinders numbered in this order, with number 1 closest to the flywheel/transmission and 4 closest to timing belt? The general wisdom online seems to be that it’s usually numbered the other way around, with timing belt side being the “front” of the engine and cylinder numbering starting from there. Is this is a Renault thing, to have it backwards? Or maybe I’m just confused and my lack of mechanical experience is showing.

    • @SocketsAndSideburns
      @SocketsAndSideburns  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is unusual, Renault do it as do some other manufactures. You just have to always know your cylinder order when doing things like this.
