From both the perfection of the diet (I have always fed adult sailfin dragons a 50:50 Greens/Salad: Insect diet), to the great explanation on temperature and humidity gradients! So many keepers fail to realize how important the idea of letting humidity naturally fluctuate is to improve the breeding success of sailfin dragons, let alone making sure that the AIR is humid and not every surface of the cage. While the Philippine sailfin is the easiest of the now five recognized species to breed, they still aren't easy so it's definitely the best entry level sailfin project, let alone one of the best looking of the Hydrosaurus! So keep up your passion and hard work, because it is paying off! Lastly I figured I'd share the new Hydrosaurus complex that is now recognized according to science as a paper published in March 2020 reclassified them to a new total five total species. Hydrosaurus amboinensis: The Amboina Sailfin Dragon native to the South Maluku region of Indonesia on islands such as Ambon and Ternate. Hydrosaurus celebensis: The Sulawesi Black Sailfin Dragon native to a handful of provinces in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Now recognized as the second largest species of Sailfin Dragon. Hydrosaurus microlophus: The Indonesian "Giant" or Sulawesi "Giant" Sailfin Dragon. The largest recognized sailfin dragon, noted by its large scales along the sides of its body. Mainly found in central and western provinces of South Sulawesi Indonesia. Hydrosaurus pustulatus: (The video explains this one ;-) ) Hydrosaurus weberi: Weber's Sailfin Dragon found in the north Maluku regions, mainly in the Halmahera region and surrounding isles.

that's exactly what we are hoping to help with! so many people have dream animals, and have all the intelligence and hard work to make it happen, but they go online looking for help to get started and everyone online is like 'oh these are super advanced, don't get one of these, the husbandry is so difficult, blah blah blah.' but it's not true! there are a lot of things to learn of course, but it can be done! and they are such rewarding animals

the space is the number one consideration I think. We are increasing the size of the male's enclosure, he seems to spend a lot of time pushing on the doors, which some expert keepers have told us means he wants more space. so more space he shall get!
Yess,mine girl wants whole flat-in the morning she runs to window to check what is going on in the street and when she is bored of city life after few hours she runs to her wood root.For night i put her in terrarium.Terrarium can not be closed,because she would break that glass for sure😁

I like the idea of them. they offer great humidity retention and can be very spacious. how to stand up to their claws is a concern. where to hang lights from is another thing to consider. I think you'd end up doing enough modifications that you might want to consider just building a cage
I have a quick question to ask, if possible. What would be the minimum terrarium size in gallons for this reptile? I don't have access to any terrarium over 100 gallons, so I ultimately don't have my hopes up for this lizard.
great question. a standard 100 gallon tank is generally 5 feet by 18 inches by 18 inches or so. This will not be enough. one single adult would need more like 750 gallons I would say, and more is better. space is the number one limitation for a lot of people when it comes to midsize and large reptiles.

@@Sophia-dt6zt other options for awesome lizards you mean? that would fit more in a tank like you have? you could do a blue tongue skink! or there are some really awesome geckos, like gargoyles or leachies. there are a lot of species of collared lizards, I don't know for certain but the smaller species could probably do great in a 100 gallon, and they are gorgeous and colorful.
We feed a large variety of organic leafy greens. She also loves carrots, bananas, and other veggies and fruits as treats. Every other day or so she eats protein, usually large roaches. She likes egg, little fish, and other insects too

I think this is a pretty good introduction to this species and I am not here to argue that anything said here is inherently incorrect.. but I feel that there is some needed caution on your overview for nutrition. I will not state that the Hydrosaurs in your captivity are in any way not healthy or being nutritionally satisfied, but I think your presentation is lacking some important details for the herbivorous nature of the species. For instance, while variety is extremely important, a more detailed breakdown of the listed greens should be covered as many store bought greens are high in goitrogen and oxalates(example being feeding 3 types of Kale sounds good for variety but all variances of Kale are high in oxalates and phosporus and should only be fed in moderation not as staples). Now perhaps that is what you guys are doing in practice but that was not said. If i did not know what I already know and I had watched this, i would have been left with the idea that the supplementation of calcium/multivitamins is wasteful. That is a dangerous thought path as many caretakers will likely not have the knowledge or willpower to provide as varied and quality diet as you gentlemen are. With that being stated, perhaps a deeper dedicated video from you both going into the nutrition aspect? Keep up the great herping!
thank you for this comment! this is one of my concerns when we do these care videos, that there are simply so many things to cover that we will fail to get as specific as needed about a certain issue. this is definitely one. our sailfins regularly get over 30 varieties of vegetables, as natural a mix of greens as we're able to not overdo the oxalates, but we did not sufficiently address that in this video. we will make a video specifically about their nutrition (that will hopefully be helpful for other herbivorous and omnivorous species as well). do you have any papers or articles you suggest that take a scientific approach to this topic?
@@TheReptileBarn Firstly I am aware that Iguanidae and Agamidae are separate families. Now keeping that in mind just due to the fact that Sailfin Dragons are not nearly as often studied as Green Iguanas, many of the herbivorous nutritional standards would be identical due to what greens are commonly available and their close phylogeny. Same genus. Different species. There are several species from Indonesia. The celebensis are the large black ones. Weberi are the smaller green ones. There's a few more. Pustulatus, which I keep, are from the Philippines, and they get purple as they age

oh btw, as a person who lives in the phillipines and also keeps reptiles heres one thing you should know, there honestly likr iguanas except they look cooler and they dont have that shitty attitude at adult hood, and have slight differences in humidity and heat requirements
there also not advisable in indoor enclosures so best put them in out door enclosures, but be sure to have a reserve enclosure when it gets too hot ot gets too cold

just go get Philippine plants. kangkong is a staple then fish! then bananas and papayas would cut it. then just sprinkle other insects

This Lizard is very common in our province in Bohol Philippines. You can buy it for 2 to 5 dollars. We call it Ibid
