  • @kirksealls1912

Toward the beginning of the book “Jurassic Park,” there’s a girl bitten by a procompsognathus (small dinosaur), and a local biologist initially assumes based on the child’s description of a bipedal lizard that it was a basilisk. While the scene of the girl being attacked wasn’t used in the movie “Jurassic Park” (arguably a very reasonable omission to streamline the plot), it was later used as the opening scene for the movie “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”
As an aside, it’s interesting to think that, given there’s at least a reasonable possibility that these dinosaurs may very well have been feathered, in the hypothetical “Jurassic Park” scenario where they were brought back to life today, a young girl describing the creature might possibly describe it as an exceptionally strange bird, rather than a bizarre lizard.

    Great video Clint!
I've been fortunate enough to spend time at my friends facility and have had the chance to work with three of the four basilisk species. The information you and Matt shared was spot on! These are not good "pets". One truly has to be willing to provide a HUGE enclosure all for a lizard that generally DOES NOT want to be messed with.,
Beauty has it's costs, but the beauty of a stress free captive born & bred B. plumifrons in a massive display enclosure is hard to beat!

I got an imported brown basilisk, it was an awful experience. I felt horrible for it until it finally died 3-4 months later. I made multiple care mistakes, but didn't neglect it. It never thrived, it was skinny, anxious, constantly displayed. I looked to the pet store I bought it from for help only to see the one that I didn't purchase in an even worse state. It was a very difficult and sad experience.

This is my favourite reptile if not animal. However, I personally think they make a terrible pet(at least for me). Great video.

love the show!! Do cockatiels or doves plz! I rescued an injured chameleon a few years ago, he was missing half his tail, burns on his feet. I searched youtube for content like this but only found Barczyk's SnakeBytes. I thought it was good ... until i learned more. this show is awesome, love that you're an academic-- i am too in history and manuscripts.

When I saw the scratched hand, it reminded me of my dear green water dragons. They have a lot in common! Yes, they are somewhat challenging - but they were great.

I just got a baby and the head bobbing after jumping on and swallowing prey is hilarious. Not too many lizards carry and take off with their food-I've noticed these guys are fond of that

Basilisk lizards are flighty and don't generally tolerate being handled a whole bunch. It's not that they are aggressive it's just that they get nervous and always seem to want to escape into water walking freedom lol. One of my favorite lizards to look at, they are absolutely striking animals visually.
