Love these little cheap flips, it’s a great car with a bit more life in it. I think it’s far greener to keep a car on the road rather than build a new one to replace it.
Great video Rob. Watching you dodging the rain reminds me of the time 40+ years ago when I helped my dad replace a rear subframe on a 1964 mini. We stayed in a council flat at the time, on a slight hill, and it was chucking it down, plus since this is the west of Scotland, it was Baltic!,. We had an old fireside rug to lay on, and I remember lying underneath the car helping him to bolt on the new ( second hand from a scrap yard ) subframe. The rainwater was running down the kerbside of the road and here’s me 2 inches away from the kerb lying on my back! Great memories, but please don’t ask me to do it again!! Great job guys, love the channel.👍
Great stuff Rob. My ex-boss bought a new DB7GT and got it absolutely filthy. Muggings was told to fill the tank and give it a wash. So l take her down to Sainbury's, fill the tank, drive back and give the old girl a good scrub. It was so dirty l gave the worst area's a dose of TFR (traffic film remover). Chamoised it down and NOooo! The TFR had eaten into the headlamp glass ! So l did what you did and luckily job done ! The boss comes to take the gleaming DB7 GT and said "well what do think she goes like then " l said quick as a flash "Trevor it' s a 30 limit ! " "correct answer" and shot off into the distance! Well done on the Golf !
Once you have compound/polished the light, get yourself some headlight clear lacquer and do 2 coats, they don't even have to look perfectly clear with the compound and polish, the result of the clear coat makes the light absolutely crystal clear the result is astonishing, also stops it going milky again in the future.
Loved the fact that you showed how to clean properly the front headlights. Im finally gonna have a go at cleaning my Type R Ep3 lights that look like it's got cataracts lol
It is amazing how you turn a buckled door/wing round in no time, I really enjoy all the body work stuff as It is something I never got involved with, it always seemed a bit of a mystery to me😎 Now I have an idea what goes on in the other workshops! I think I will have a go at my fog lights, they have milked up like the ones you just did. I'll tell you if I am as bad as I think I am, but you explained it nice and clear and pretty much as you would have got back in college, nice job Rob👍
These Golf’s really do keep their value, bought one last year had a broken gear linkage relay lever which I got replaced at a VW main dealer for £113 in total and bought the car itself at £450. Got it relayed to the garage for £70. Around £635 spent on it, mileage was 168,000 miles with FULL service history, we cleaned the car ourselves and sold it for £2100 and the amount of people we had interested was unbelievable. All in all a nice car and decent profit!
Thanks Rob, that's another little bullet proof golf back on the road instead of a scrapper, someone's new pride and joy mate. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi rob and Chris another brilliant video as always and yes that door does look really good and the wing does as well and you both work really well together and hope you are staying safe and well
This lovely little Golf has cleaned up really well, it looks very presentable now, which just goes to show how a little time and patience can totally transform a car!!.
Excellent video again rob , done a few lights myself with 1200 and the mop , surprisingly easy to do and makes hell of a difference , longer the videos the better 😁
That went well, from zero to hero and all in one day's work. The biggest task was getting the axel parts to get the wheel back in line. Some very useful demonstrations, especially the one on sorting the headlight clouding. Good pace and good results, nothing else to add really.
Another cracking video guys, it just shows what difference a day makes! That will be a cracking little run around for somebody and it just shows what a difference can be achieved with polishing the headlights. I did hear of somebody locally who was charged over £150 each for new headlights for their vehicle as the headlights were cloudy at MOT and the MOT tester told them they couldn’t do anything with them. They asked for the old headlights to be put in the back of the car and you could tell just by looking at the headlight they haven’t even tried to do anything with them!
Cracking vid Rob - great the way it all came together - another profit (because it will sell ) and excellent content. Drivers door now opening and closing “just like a Golf” should!! 😁
Nice piece on the Headlight deburring Rob, enjoyed that and very traditional method. I personally use Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0 which achieves exactly the same result, but you only need a rubbing in cloth for the paste and a buffing cloth - kinda like a T-Cut for Headlights (which would also work) ! Once again, another great vid, keep up the great work!
The rear wheel alignment was easier than I thought Rob. I figured it to be a full trailing arm like on the red polo. And thanks for showing how to prepare and repair the headlight lenses. Amazing difference. This will be a great project for someone to finish off. 👍👍
Surely a bit more than that. The mileage is only 80 odd k. ( Edit - Sorry Just watched the end, I do thinks that's a bit undervalued. But I guess it has the sill damage is only a 1.4)
Great stuff Rob! Suprised you fit all this content into a 20 minute video! Apparently you can lose upto 60% light efficiency through scratched/faded headlight lenses..!!
So much more appealing after the work done and better value than most cars you might see at £600. Even at that price, it will make a contribution to your fixed costs which is what it's all about if no better prospect presents itself at the auctions..
Absolute yes to the longer video. What a nice pocket money car for you and the future buyer. I would have thought at £750 it would still have been a cracking buy. Typical weather but hey¬! it rains and as they say the show must go on. Keep up the good work Rob. Stay safe and well. Cheers, Bob
Nice little video, nice to see your occassionaly filling in the gaps showing other aspects of what goes into sorting out vehicles. Particularly when it doesnt involve having to have expensive equipment on hand.....Liked it a lot !!!! Pat in Cyprus
enjoyed this Vid.. £600.. well worth it that dent in the door wouldnt bother me,, i used to live in Bristol could never find a parking space near my flat always had to park in back streets rather than get a ticket often went to my car and found someone had dinged it or took out mirror, great little city run about
Just shows what you can do with abit of knowledge and elbow grease yet again brilliant video Rob. PS. We might see you on news at ten with a big camera on your shoulder following a news reader round thanks for the video keep up the good work thanks 😊
Rob what a great little golf there , you have done a great job and liked watching you using the dolly on the door what a difference when you put the new wing to it , and a big 👏 on the lamp refurb it certainly makes such a difference, great job all round
Good video rod. A quick turn around was need and that's what it got. Good little car for some one.. Had one off these myself...... Keep the vw's coming 👍VW👍
Well done guys yet again 1st class content vary informative. If I was in the UK I would be after one of your cars for sure. Keep up the great work and look forward to your next installment.
Always a thumbs up for you two! Great vid as always. It's good to see normal cars being given love, theres more vids on unattainable cars than real cars.
Headlight restoration - best, easiest and cheapest solution I've used has been Armorall Headlight Wipes. Five minute job and the finish lasts for ages, really recommended.
Quick turn around Rob, hope you don't catch a cold. Headlight tip was great, most of us would just have got new ones, you have just save a few quid for some people. Nice one!!
Headlights that are really bad (I've done mine) you can sand them with p320 on a sander, I've buffed scores out with p120 with a sander and work through the grades up to the p1500, I polished mine but it only lasts so long before they go cloudy again, in the summer I rubbed them down, masked them up and gave them a few coats of Halfords aerosol lawyer and they still look good 😉
Once you have got them back to nice forget laquer it yellows. Try clear vinyl like a lot of detailers use to stop stone chips on things like door mirror cases.
@@roberttill3787 AHH, never thought of that, I'm a spray painter but I done mine while I was on furlough, if I had been at work I'd have lacquered them with the proper headlight UV resistant stuff that my boss keeps banging on about 😂😂
@@SXI1972 I have never personally tried it, but i think it probably works well. The detailing film has anty ageing UV resistance if you get good quality, such as 3m. Even if it does yellow, peel it off and put some new on!

Rob. Great effort. Had a giggle when you were tapping at the door with the hammer & dolly. Remembered Father Ted fixing his car. 😂
Rob - you no longer need a hight viz jacket - just smile more. Seriously though another useful video of "what to do tools" for the lilbary.

Another cracking video Rob, great quality workmanship. Didn't know you were a security guard as well. Outstanding!
Perfect timing was watching your micro camper from 6 months ago slowly getting through all your videos the golf is looking good 👌
someone would be well happy with that Golf, the way those headlights turned out completely transformed the front of the car,Spot on Rob!

What a difference on the headlights, amazing transformation! Nice little cheap runaround for someone. Thumbs up from me !!

The cheapy cars are the favourites to watch you work on. Practical skills of the everyday motorists. Thank you for creating, it was enjoyable.
Agreed
I’ve got to do a set of headlights so that actually helped! Cheers rob! Hope Chris is ok and ill see you boys in the next one..
Those lights have made a world of difference Rob. Transformed the car. Well done.
