My mother came from a Caribbean background. And yes, she definitely used corporal punishment! It was her go-to method of discipline when I disobeyed. It's certainly part of Caribbean culture. But yes, our views should be informed by the Word of God, not our culture. When you do spank, do you use a belt? Or just your hands? My mother usually used a belt or a stick. And at least from my point of view, I turned out fine!
I’ve heard plenty of stories of being beaten with a stick, a hairbrush, a whip, a shoe or anything that could be found at the moment 😂😂😂 But I use my hand on their hand. I’ve always said my kids will never have those stories 😂😂. I truly want them to reflect on their childhood and remember predominantly love and affection. Harder said than done but I’m working on it 🩵

I agree. Doing the two at the same time is a lot but I would say it’s not sustainable for the long run. And I never ended up doing it! I begged hubby to do it for me 😂😂

I can remember my mother spanking me and recently I told her how I felt about it and she said she never thought about it that way when she would beat me. My mother is just like me and loves to explain things. So when you do something wrong she would sit you down and explain to you why she didnt like what you did and how much it hurt her and God and then she would tell you that because you did this she now has to beat you. I felt like this was double punishment like its better that I did not listen to a word you said when you are going to beat me anyway. After making me feel bad for hurting both you and God then you now going to beat me and I try my best with my niece and god daughter to explain to them why I dont want them to do bad things and that when I speak to them to correct them that I love them and would never want something bad to happen to you, so theres no need to be defiant or question my reason for asking you to stop doing something or to do something
I love that you are being proactive with your nieces! I truly think we can change the narrative if we analyze where we are coming from and process it rather than being reactionary. Lovely convo! Thanks for sharing.
