Hey....A BIG shout out for the pilots flying those C-47's. Note: NONE of them had parachutes on. The reason: The cockpits and seats were too small to accomodate. If they were hit...they "went down with the ship".

True fact: If a C-47 were to be shot down, the pilots would try to keep the plane in the air for as long as possible (due to the large amount of time it takes everyone to jump out). Many pilots sacrificed their lives to save their paratroopers

I flew a C-47 in Vietnam. You may have noted: None of the pilots had parachutes on. The cockpit and the seats were too small to accomodate. Almost impossible for them to leave their seats (and the control of the aircraft), depart the tight cockpit, put on a parachute, and bailout through the rear door. I.E. No escape...a near "suicide mission" ...and they KNEW IT!

Many pilots killed their parachutists by flying too low and too fast for the drop. There were sticks of 18 dead parachutists in a line who jumped from planes the pilots flew too low, knowingly.

@@XxBloggswhy fly lower though, i’d thought they would get hit with more flak

Those C-47s were essentially just airliners with the seats removed and painted up in military colors. No armor plating, no defensive guns, no redundant systems. And the pilots were flying them straight into enemy territory.

For me, this is the most intense scene on BoB!

One of the most impactful scenes of the series. Especially when you realize those are flaming bodies falling out of the bird on fire.

I'm at airborne school and its shocking how close our pre jump procedure is

How would that be shocking? This was only about 75 years ago. A plane is still a plane, a parachute is still a parachute, a door hatch is still a door hatch, etc.

You're telling this show was a success despite none of the characters telling us their gender identity nor pronouns?
