    Thanks for the video. I have seen a recip. and scroll cut open but never a rotary. Very helpful video.

      Hopefully in the future I can remake it with a fresh cut that shows the parts better.

    @ 00:55 That is not a "keeper pin to keep it [the rotor] pushed in". That is a vane that rides against the rotor. And as you later stated, it separates the high pressure side from the low pressure side as it rotates. Without it, you would not get any compression.
    PTAC is Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners, like those used in motel rooms.

    Great demostration. Is it beneficial to add a crankase heater on this type of compressor?

    Hi Ty! In the Middle East the temperature easy to pass 134 F(54 C) and in some cities over 140 F (60 C), in this case lats of temperature hits the compressor so if put some shade to decrease the temperature do you think that could help the vapor pump to cool? Thank you🌷.

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  ปีที่แล้ว

      The highest temperature in the middle east was recorded in Al-Jahra, Kuwait, where the temperature reached 52.7⁰C / 126.86 ⁰F
      The current official highest registered air temperature on Earth is 56.7 °C (134.1 °F), recorded on 10 July 1913 at Furnace Creek Ranch, in Death Valley in the United States.
      Those are not regular temperatures but extreme peaks for a limited time.
      Shade can be beneficial or detrimental depending on how it's applied.
      The shade should never be over the top of the unit and never in the path of the exhaust air.
      The shade should be used several feet away from the condensor blocking the sun from striking the side of the condensing coil.
      Some companies have designed water system to allow for evaporative cooling on the condensing coil's but the water has to be very pure and de-mjnsralized to prevent scale build up. Even with that the water can speed up electolosys. I have early seen it done right but it is a possibility for extreme applications.
      If you lookkng for a real solve, look at geothermal system where a glycole/water loop is buried deep in the ground. The condensor regects heat to the water and the water gives up it's chest to the cooler earth.

    Interesting - similar mechanism to a pneumatic impact wrench (though in reverse - air pressure differential drives the shaft)

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES!!!
      I love it when people are thinking. You thought and applied it outside of the immediate subject and you are correct! One other difference on the compressor the vein is on the outside pushing in against the rotor vs the vein in rotor pushing out to the cylinder

    Please help me with great facts of my ac air conditioner compressor turn a Dynamo or alternator generator project? Is it too feasible? Or how many hp motor can I turn an AC air conditioner compressor into?

      Great questions. I don't have the time to investigate your answers but the information is all available. Come up with some ideas and then experiment and see what works and dosent work. Keep modifying untill you get what you want. It's much more fun that way and you will learn a lot.

    Hey Ty love that your taking the time to teach us but I do have a question….when you replace these when you break the vacuum do we always charge on the high side or it doesn’t matter!? Thank you in advance and god bless

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question!
      A few points.
      If the system is pumped down like a new condensing unit, open the suction first,. Then the liquid.
      Residential air cooled systems you have 2 options.
      Usually everyone breaks it by adding liquid directly to the liquid line. Never add liquid to the suction side when it's off or in a vacuum.
      If it's a water cooled system, being geothermal, refrigeration, chiller, or anything with water as a heat transfer you want to add vapor only until the system pressure rises above freezing.
      Above 32 for water or if it's glycol the freezing point varies with mixtures.
      After your above the freezing point with vapor you can liquid to the liquid side.

      @@love2hvac thank you for the response. It’s actually a 2 ton residential package water-source unit they factory charge it through the low side and I believe that’s what killed the rotary compressor in two days 😂😂

    Will the section line accumulator be enough to use these types of compressors to recover Freon from
    Automotive systems etc, the commercial units have a rotary valve in them what protects them from liquid damage, cheers Brett

      Possibly but oiling is a concern.

    Can I convert ac compressor to hydraulic pump or an alternator generator

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes an alternator is easy to make a generator.
      A compressor does not make hydraulic pump though. You need a gear type pump to make that happen.

      @@love2hvac big thanks , I have low voltage in my street, i got the idea of turning an old ac air conditioner compressor into a Dynamo or 240V alternator to be spin or propel by a 24v DC hydraulic motor of 2horse power, will it work well to carry my 240v inverter tech welding machine?

    If the whole casing is hi pressure (I assume it's refrigerant cooled) what keeps the compressor cool?

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a great question, Eli!!!
      I do not know or understand the answer. This morning I looked it up one book said because the motor is in the discharge gas it runs hotter and sometimes has limitations.
      Another book said the compressor windings are cooled with discharge gas. I have heard that before but it still does not make sense to me. I will ask my instructor group and see if I can get a better answer for you and me.

    Hello Ty is this kind of compressor can hold some liquid? And if does not have accumulator what’s can happen? Thanks.

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question,
      It cannot hands any liquid at all. Of all the compressors, the liquid is the most detrimental.
      That is the reason they always come with an accumulator to protect it. The suction is delivered directly into the compression cylinder. As it tried to compress the liquid will have nowhere to go. It turns into hydraulics and something has to break or stop moving altogether.

      Is there any kind of oil in this type of compressor?

  • @taiwanluthiers

    I just replaced such a compressor. I have no idea what caused the old one to seize up, but it did. I never got around to opening it up to see what killed it and just scrapped it.
    It's the middle of summer and a non working compressor sucks.

    i have never seen this model of compressor before with the compressor at the bottom and high pressiure casing. thank you. sidenote/unrelated: could you make a video showing the difference in how fast/slow a system can be pulled down when using the manifold or directly connecting the pump and hose sizes? its a interesting subject but i have not seen a video so far where the difference is actually shown, just told.

      @@love2hvac great. thank you. i always found it annoying about my teachers that they just said "do it like this or else" and never could/would actually show the why. just like not brazing with nitrogen. just braze a piece with and without gas and cut it open. that makes it instantly clear why you need to do it instead of just being told to without proper context or motivation.
