Great video! 502 Abteilung's oil paint "Smoke" is a very dark grey that may help you in the future. I often mix that with the Bitume colour for a grimy grey on covered hoppers.
Thank you for linking my channel as one of your resources. I am glad you've found my videos inspirational :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll pick some of that up. I've really enjoyed your videos as well.

Looks fantastic! I had someone tell me that when weathering a car you should always look for photos of the prototype. Good to see you doing that. Keep the videos coming.

Thanks, John. The prototype pix help keep me grounded in reality otherwise I'd probably end up with some pretty wild results.

Hi Drew. Like what you did with Frisco hopper car. I'm a small hopper lover you know. As I'm modeling paper mills, there are a lot dry products that goes into the process. Not the same era of hoppers as you do but I got to admit that you've putted a lot of work in it. Again, tip of the hat !
Have you consider applying a part of the wash with your airbrush ? That's what I'm doing most of the time. Then finishing up with brushes or sponges as you wish. I was also surprised that you didn't do the black patch with your gun. Keep on your good work and thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks, Luc. I've never thought of using an airbrush for washes. My airbrush skills aren't very good so doing the patch with a airbrush makes me nervous.

@@WhiteRiverLine Can't be serious !!! I see you airbrush painting cars and buildings like a pro. Specially using a cup instead of a bottle. I'm shaking a bit (gift from my mom) and really can't use a cup. But I'm using the gun in many ways because it's for me the best results I can get out of painting models. Course you got to be carefull when painting small things like patches. When done properly, you never get paint leaks under masking tape... and a perfect patch done ! I also like the fact that you're using Tamiya flat finish done with the airbrush. That I'm not used too. I tried several times and got back to the spray can. We all have our fears ! Probably not thinning it properly ! Thanks again for sharing with us and many thanks for answering my comments.

I'm pretty good at painting broad areas and doing fading, but doing precise small space, I'm not so good at. I need to practice.

you should start working on the 3k give-away car this week! 🙃

Lol, I got to 3k so fast I didn’t even get a chance to run a contest. I’ll probably run one for 4k though.

@@WhiteRiverLine you're doing it wrong 😉.... build two cars at same time. one for you and one for give-away. I bet it only takes an extra 25-50% of the time to build two at once. Looking forward to seeing you build the American Model Builders caboose. Those are great kits. I've built a Nickel Plate cab, and 3 Norfolk & Western Cabins.

@@leisureshoot For sure working on 2+ cars is more efficient. However, these cars don't match the era I'm modeling so I don't need to do more than 1.

Has anyone ever told you that you sound just like John Boy from The Waltons???

No, I haven't heard that before. 😄 My memory of that show was that it was very comforting and warm, so I'll take it as a compliment.
