Canadian dental coverage plan begins today for eligible Canadians

  • The program is expected to provide dental coverage to uninsured families who earn a household income of under $90,000. It is being rolled out in phases and the eligibility age brackets will be lowered in the coming months.
The program, which the government forecasts will cost $13 billion over five years, is a key part of the Liberal government's political pact with the NDP. About 1 point 7 million Canadians have signed up for the plan but only 5 thousand dentists have -- with many saying they have concerns about the program.

7 million patients for 5,000 dentists? That's 1 dentist for every 1,400 people! Even if each dentist sees 10 patients/day, that's only 1 visit every 4 years for each patient. Good luck with that.

Socialized dental is a great idea and hopefully this brings down the cost of dental, which is currently way overpriced. The best countries have universal health care. Dentists get paid enough - it's not like they are unable to do business - and if anything this will improve business for them.
It's not a scam, it's the beginning of universal dental care being supplied with universal health care.
The people in the comments that are complaining that dentists don't make enough money already or that this doesn't cover enough people are just toxic professional whiners.
