    Just a point of housekeeping. Levy's butchers shop was in Middlesex Street, not Butchers Row, which still puts him right at the heart of the murders. I think it is fairly reliably established that Joseph Levy was Jacob's cousin. The evidence against Levy is largely based on him being a match for the criminal and geographical profiles, but he might be a suspect to keep an open mind on.

      Thanks for that correction. 👍 He's not the flashiest suspect out there, but worth considering.
      Thanks for watching. 🍺🙂👍

    I think that Levy is one of the better suspects. He lived in the area. Being a butcher, he had some anatomical knowledge. He probably consorted with prostitutes. He had mental health issues, but they weren't severe enough to get him institutionalized until 1890. I think he had his children before he had descended into mental illness. Joseph Levy seems to have recognized the man who was with the woman thought to be Eddowes shortly before her murder. Joseph might have been willing to testify against fellow Jews, but maybe not if that Jew was his cousin, as Jacob probably was. I believe that his wife said that he was often up at all hours of the night. All that I would say against his suspect status, besides that he has no definite link with any of the murders, which is true of almost all of the suspects, is that the description that Lawende gave of the man he saw with Eddowes doesn't sound like the description of a Jewish person.

      Thanks for your thoughts on this. For some people on the list, it's a bit of stretch to link them to the crimes. Not so with this bloke. Yet as you point out, there some doubts on this bloke as well. I🍺🙂👍

    the ripper was someone who put the women at ease otherwise they would not have gone with him. So if it was Jacob it was at a time when he could control his mania and even perhaps put on an act and come across as charming. I wonder if they knew him from his business. All the women lived with 10 mins of each other and within 10 mins of Middlesex street. If they knew his butchers shop its likely that they knew his wife who used to serve people as well which could have perhaps put them even more at ease as they could possibly have perceived him as a safe married even family man influencing them to drop their guard even more.. .... In my limited ability of rationalising he's up there with the most prominent suspects...

      Thanks for that perspective. Yes, he is high on the list. Nobody really understood, let alone e treat, mental health issues back then.
      It would have been possible to appear sane to most people. Even today, it's recognized that it's people's family who notice issues arising first. Jacob's wife was reporting his decline before 1888.

      One murdered woman went with a man who punched her friend in the face. Theyll do anything for a few shillings.

    The case for and the case against all in one fascinating video. Levy fits. But is he the killer....who knows.

      He's high on the list for sure. The police were convinced that Jack the Ripper was no longer a threat after 1889.
      I haven't read that particular book on Levy, though it is hard to keep up with all the Ripper books.

      @@OwenNeidhart thing is I just don't know alot about this guy. One thing I do dislike is the fact everyone likes the exiting suspect. This Levy is not at all exiting, I dislike most of the suspect's out there. Maybe I should give this one a chance.

    Joseph levy said he didn't recognise the man near Mitre Square

    • @OwenNeidhart
      @OwenNeidhart  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That is correct. The papers implied he was hiding something, but it wouldn't be the first time in this saga that they made up some sensational claims.
      Thanks for watching. 🍺🙂👍
