  • The Canon EOS-1 D Mark II was a successful follow-on to Canon's first professional EOS-1 digital SLR. The Mark II improved on the original in a number of ways including more megapixels, more buffer, and other key specification improvements. The EOS-1 series cameras are all built exceedingly solidly with good reliability, good build quality, and good components. This camera feels very well made and, in 2020, as of this video's release, it's build and image quality still hold up.
    One challenge with old DSLRs, however, is finding batteries. Old DSLR batteries are often not made. This is true of very many vintage DSLRs. The best buying tip I have for you is, if you're looking to buy one of these, find a few good batteries first and then find the camera. It will be easier to use the camera if you already have a few batteries.

    Just bought this camera 1 d mark ii n, thank you for making your 3 fantastic video tutorials, it's been a great help to get the camera up and running, really appreciate what your doing!

    Thank you for these tutorials. Although I own a 5D and 7D this 1D was somewhat new to me. I just purchased a 1D Mark III and many of the functions and the systems were quite similar to the Mark II. Custom Functions were somewhat different, but I could figure them out on my camera as I followed your explanations. I learned a lot about the buttons and it's functions by watching your 3 videos. Thanks again.

    I got what I believe is a sweet deal. I recentky got the EOS 1 DS Mark II and the EOS 1 D from a seller on Ebay. I paid under $500 for two camers with 5 batteries and a battery charger. Now I am watching your videos to help me get to know the camera.

    There’s something a mouth the feel of this camera. It just feels so comfortable in the hand in spite of its weight. Also love the solidness. Feels like a precision piece of equipment. So much to learn about it and your videos were fantastic. Would love some videos on how to setup the camera for different situations eg sport, nature, landscape, portrait etc. thanks.

    The communication function is via firewire which is the other interface with usb, It is a 4pin in camera to a 9pin to computer. I do have the old software and use a Windows XP laptop to customise the personal preferences and the options with those are mind boggling.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I wondered in that was 1394. I remember selling Firewire hardware back in the day when I was in computer sales. It was so much faster than USB, if I recall.

      I think Canon's DPP will still support the 1D MkII under win10 but the problem is finding a modern laptop / PC with a firewire port and a firewire cable.

    Thank you so much for posting this series of videos - very helpful! I don't recall seeing it anywhere but were you able to use the 16GB CF card without issue? I know there was a tech bulletin regarding SD cards (luckily I still have some 2GB cards laying around) but I don't believe that covered CF card capacity. Thanks!

    Question…I like watching your videos…….about how long should the battery last

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question and there are some factors that affect that -- autofocus use, battery age, temperature, and screen power-on time. When I had this camera, I found that I used about one or two batteries per hike -- call that five or six hours of heavy use.

  • @vince-jn6mk

    I found this video very informative on my old Canon. I was wondering what CF memory card you have on this camera.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I forget the brand. I just grabbed a relatively small one (either 8 or 16GB, I forget which) with the fastest write speed. Most of the write speed is wasted in-camera but can help some when transferring files to my computer through my CF reader.

  • @kurtklimisch7498

    Great videos, but your camera is just a straight Mark II, the Mark IIn has a much bigger LCD screen on the back. I have had both the II and the IIn, I have kept the IIn, to the point of sending it back to Canon to get a new shutter put in. Love that camera, even though I have purchased a Mark III, Mark IIIDs, Mark IV, 5D Mark 3 and now a 6D, I still have the Mark IIn, just a special camera.

    Nice content and tutorial, just bought 1D Mk2N and using inserting 32GB SanDisk Extreme. I have gone through the setting for Raw. But it didnt work it stays to S. Please advice, Thanks cheers from Brunei

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! So when you change the setting to raw it goes back to small jpeg? It's been a couple of years since I sold this camera, but I feel like there is a second setting in the camera for image size and both have to be selected for raw to work. I forget if this video covers it or if something in the second video of this series covers that.

    Great videos David Hancock. How would you do a sensor cleaning on this? I can't find a sensor cleaning kit brush that fits this large APS-H-size (28.7 x 19.1 mm) CMOS.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi again. I noticed I have a few hot/dead pixels in my photographs. Is there a solution to fix this in camera on the Canon EOS-1 D Mark II?
      I heard of activating manual sensor cleaning mode with mirror up and to let it sit for 30 seconds. Another is to clean the sensor or to remap the pixels. I've done all except remapping the pixels which I believe I have to send it in to Canon to remap the pixels. Thank you in advance @DavidHancock and Happy Holidays!

      I don't think they're are cheap chargers for these. I don't know of any third party options. I ran into the same issue with my Nikon D1 and D2H. Old DSLRs are an expensive hobby.
