The real utility of the spooky gunship is to tilt the VC. The longer the VC commander does not call in anti air, the more the cohesion of the team falls apart and their morale ruined. Even if the enemy commander is a genius that uses AA to counter Napalm, you’ll still get salt on the enemy team if they don’t have Aa To counter spooky
The Phantom strikes reminds me the first time I spawned in this game. I was spawning on a tunnel and the first thing I saw was the canisters approaching.
In fact you can cheat vc commander for AA using spooky, call spooky once then cancel immediately, that iconic sound may lure VC commander to use his precious AA and you can use recon plane to check if there is an AA online just seconds later and see whether VC commander fell for this (pretty much the only use of recon plane), the cool down for spooky after you canceling it is only 1 min while the cool down for AA is 3 mins so you can basically have a whole glorious minute of spooky raining down bullets to those VCs
yeah that is true, I didn't include this in the video primarily on RMG the commanders are all experienced with thousands of hours so they never fall for a fake spook
In our russian servers VC ambush is ultimate, on Saigon C point is under the VC control after 5 seconds, because commander rushing it with radio(I was radioman once). VC ambush is A at least I think. And of course one of the best abilities is to convince someone to become a radioman
Southern commander basically has a pseudo ambush if two of your best squad leaders are radio men. Have them spawn on you first then force deploy people that way you get ~2 squads worth of men on you.
best ambush moment I've seen was one time where the enemy commander called in an ambush right in front of my teammate who had a flamethrower... he had a great game. Worst was when an ambush was called next to me and it was my first time playing Marksman, I did not have a great game
Someone once did a bullshit role kick on me when my napalm kill like 4 people that move right into the napalm zone. The napalm killed about 3-4 times as much Charlies. The funny part is i am an Admin on that server, and it says exactly who initiated the vote kick. I can imagine his fear when he found that out i was an Admin, because he left and i couldn’t get his ID.

In theory and in general, a Northern commander calls in AA as soon as they hear the spooky coming in, so if you cancel it, it will go away before AA comes up. The spooky will then have I believe a 1-2 minute cooldown and can be called in again. You’re essentially baiting the enemy AA and allowing the spooky to do work. Spooky can be A-S tier
Some things: Anytime in the mid or late war that the VC shoot down your recon, tell them “thanks,” wait the minute or so that you need, and then call in spooky on the spot you need. They won’t be able to shoot down the spooky and will be decimated. Usually you see the map anyway before it gets shot down so it doesn’t matter, free real estate. HOWEVER, if it’s early war, ALWAYS shoot down recon. There’s no spooky, so it’s vital to preventing a good napalm strike from happening.

ARVN arty is definitely the worst, but it's not nearly as bad as many people make it out to be. The individual mortar rounds have smaller explosions than the US arty, but the barrage still covers a pretty wide area. Plus, the mortar rounds come in quicker and I'm pretty sure it lasts a bit longer, so it's arguably better for area denial. As a bonus, it's also usually easier to use the mortars offensively, especially since a lot of squad leaders have the habit of plopping marks right on top of the objective. With US or commie arty you'd be risking a lot of friendly fire, but it's safer for ARVN to push an objective under mortar fire. The ARVN commander's score is more or less carried by napalm and spookies, though.
Ambush is really good only if you and radioman managed to sneak into points and blast it. Also to mentioned that Australia abilities are really good since you can manages where your canberra/Phantom land the bombs/Napalms at. American and South Vietnam can't for some reason....
I never want to play commander because everyone blames their teams/ their personal failures on the commander. Half the time I don't even wanna be SL because of this stuff. There's only so much a commander can do without good teamwork.

The devs don’t care about this game anymore. I once ambushed on the second floor of the rubber factory on chuchi I believe. Right after the napalm, I ambushed depolyed and every burned in front of me. I wasn’t on fire 🔥. But everyone else was 💁🏽♂️💩
If u haven't been booted out of the commander's role, you haven't played commander enough haha. Some men, you just can't reach. If my efforts go unappreciated, I usually just go grunt.
I got kicked for Toxic Behavior yesterday because I told the SLs to put up their damn tunnels.
The ambush deploy is the goat. I love when the enemy team calls in nap and I just spawn the whole team back in.
Then half of the team immediately dies cuz they spawn in the napalm ; - ;

Spooky cooldown for canceling is absolutely not 1 minute. Thats based off of the map and Isn’t a constant thing.

Imo faking 2-3 spookies is worth to have one full time. Especially on danger close mark since it can shoot through walls.

If you playing on RMG and see Ken Gunney as VC TL you know there's gonna be some tidy ambushes
