yea for function if you can get a pair for retail...No skater will ever wear these skating nowadays unless your Ishod Wair who has his own signature dunk that he gets for free. When I was younger these shoes were made in mass amounts and shipped to be sold in stores and you could always get a pair. Now hypebeasts havemkilled that possibility and because of the hype around them nike and shoe stores only sell these through online drops that sell out in seconds and resell for like 500$

The Nike dunk was created in 1985 by the same team who developed the Jordan 1, the Nike dunk high was originally a basketball shoe, it suited college basketball teams as you could create so many colourways to fit the colours of the team. Nike was struggling to fit into the skate culture already having a failed team in the past when they signed a very young bam margera. And released 3 'skate shoes' which included the Nike choad.... it wasn't until they brought sandy bodecker to the team. To shape nike into what nike sb is today. To give back to local skateshops and give local shops a chance to collaborate on shoes, nike would also make sure that the shoes were sold by skaters, for skaters. And not sold at other retail shops. Such as footlocker or tkmax. In my opinion the dunk created the stepping stone for street wear and resellers. Camp outs at shop fronts to get a fresh pair of dunks. It wasn't all down to nike sb, and collaborations. While on the subject, I can't not talk about the impact that Jeff staple had with nike and the reselling market. When he first released the pigeon dunk in March 2005.

the SB outsole has the ribs not going to the midsole completely for a simple reason: as the rubber is pushed into the mould the barrier where both mid- and outsole material meet is better on the SBs because the ribs don't go fully to the edge. This design was an update from the OG dunk soles. As well as other aspects like the extra griplines on the bottom etc.

2008 to 2010 I loved all my SB pickups but once they retro’d the de la soul low that’s when the tech went down for me. Gold rails & northern lights mids were my top 2 favorite pick ups. Good times mayne
You missed one really important thing - Nike dunk has thicker sole than sb, just take of the insoles and try them on foot, you’ll feel more thickness in the nike dunks

Every few months Nike releases Nike By You dunk lows and highs. I think the stock goes quickly, but it seems to be a regular occurrence. You can still get your customisation fix!

I thought the elastics on the tongue were to keep it from falling to one side. ive noticed since wearing lakais that the tough stays centered, but when i through on some vans or court visions, the tough falls to the outside, and im constantly readjusting to keep it comfortable. theres probably other reasons for the bands, but thats just my view.

The elastic on the tongue I would assume is more for so you can skate them without the laces and use the laces as a belt. That’s what I use mine for atleasy
Not really, without the elastic band the tongue would go all over the place and the band keeps your foot locked in. The tongue flapping around is very distracting while skating

That depends on which ab dunk you get. There Dunk pros which are slimmer and have been adapted for a more modern fit. Which I would call true to size (Nike size). The travis, stangelove, Grateful Dead, lobster or b&j for instance are ogs or simply sb dunks that are padded much more and are much puffier. These fit tighter in the beginning till they break in. If you size up half a size they look even bulkier.

the double lower eyelets are suppose to keep your laces from busting from thrashing.

the flap on the 2 lace holes is supposed to protect your laces of ripping while skating
For many year the SB dept used the original outsole. The change is pretty recent.
