Backpacking in the Roan Highlands (TN) + Halloween at Mountain Harbour B&B

- Jerry and I did an overnight backpacking trip over the Roan Highlands on Halloween weekend. We booked a stay at the Mountain Harbor Inn B & B the night before and were happy to find they were doing a Halloween Party during our stay which ended up being so much fun! The Roan Highlands was one of my favorite sections of trail during my 2020 Appalachian Trail thru hike.

Great video. The scenery was great, colors of fall and the grassy wind blown highlands were beautiful. I’ve never hiked on the east coast (I need to change that soon). Any long hikes in the future? Maybe a double crown on the PCT??

Demolition/removal of the Overmountain Shelter/barn started 2 days ago on 11/13/23. Sad to see it go but I do understand the safety issues, just wished they'd replace it with another shelter but the USFS says nothing will be rebuilt. I'm glad I was able to stay in it on an overnighter in that section in September 2008, such a great view from there.
Oh wow I’m SO glad I went by there on this hike! Yes I agree wish they would’ve just restored it as a barn “shelter”
A Tennessee Hiking and Canoeing Club has responsibility for this section of the trail and one of the club execs said there may be a long range plan for building a new shelter, but it will be further from roads. Maybe Bradley Gap area.

haha Napolean returns!!! Nice colors! Ours have been gone since about the 6th. Halloween is not a favorite of mine, but boy was that a fantastic party! I've never seen such festive food and decorations!! Glad you had a terrific time. Did you stary there when you hiked the AT? Was there a hot tub on the deck? how many miles did you do then? Seems like a good weekend trip to do. Are there different levels for the membership?
No I didn’t stay here on my hike and I didn’t see a hot tub unfortunately but one of the rooms has one.

I am not being disrespectful in any way, nor being rude.. just pointing out my observation. Americans eat extremely unhealthy food in general.. all extremely processed from various brands..powdered, dried etc.
Please take care of yourself 🙏 ik it might not be possible on trails but when at home eat fresh and try to make things from fresh ingredients not just brands and packets or cans. Or else it will affect your health majorly in the future.
