I really like your channel. I'm from Poland( there aren't many people intrested in basketball) and you the best way to understanding basketball tactics for me. Thanks!
Hey Coach, I am trying to implement man-to-man for my young kids. I find it challenging to make guarding assignments in game, especially as substitutions are happening. Any tips there? I might be missing something obvious, so it would be great to get your input.
Sorry for question, I read reply to another post, in 45 years of playing basketball I’ve never heard of a 3 seconds in lane on defense, guess maybe an nba rule but pretty sure high school basketball as well as college it isn’t a violation, also to avoid the violation I believe a player has to clear both feet from lane and not have 1 in and 1 out, I could be wrong tho….
some leagues will say no zone defense and how they call the no zone rule in no zone leagues is by having a 3 seconds in the key call. However what these "no zone" leagues are forgetting is that a man defense looks like a zone defense and vice versa, so what they're actually saying with a 3 second on defense call is they dont want help side defense or zones
This is also called a “shell drill“. I’m not aware of a defensive three second violation in the key. When you start to run zone defense like a 2/3 you have people parked in the key for long periods of time
the NBA has the 3 in the key rule for defence, also many youth leagues around the world like the elementary school league with the school I went to where you couldn't play zone, or have defensive players in the key without an offensive players arms length away for more than 3 seconds
When I was coaching that age group I was really obsessed with the triangle offense and I made a motion out of it where we would enter the triangle and swing it around to create a triangle on the opposite side... Today I would be running more of a 5 out as its whats being used at all levels and gives many opportunities for all players. This is the triangle I used to run at that age, th-cam.com/video/JyYQWqTFEqk/w-d-xo.html and here is what I would personally run today for that age th-cam.com/video/ilpIAc9sfvI/w-d-xo.html
Hey Coach Allen, would you have an example of how to run Man to Man Defense with cutters and or drivers. Can you show switching and or what happens when some is screened? There are a lot of videos that show the formation but nothing when someone gets screened or if they need to follow their man into the paint and out to corner or wing.
usually middle schools have that rule because they dont allow zones..... However at any level except the NBA you can sit as long as you want in the key on defense

I tell the players to talk to each other and pick their guy

I need help teaching man defence and spacing to the kids. I understand it but it’s hard to explain it.
Here is how I teach it th-cam.com/video/5HuggrbMseg/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, this was super helpful. In your experience, do you run a set number of plays or more of a motion offense for middle-school age kids?

So you can get a 3 second in the lane on defense?
