Those screws holding the idle speed sensor to the throttle - if people don't have your screw removal tool, they can use penetrant spray or 3-in-1 lubricant on the screw head first. Then use small vise-grip to grab these screws from the outside and then they can be turned open easily.

Thank you alot! this fixed my car! just needed some wb-40 in that sensor at it started moving again, now my idle is smooth 700rpm. before my idle was uneven at 1000-1200rmp.

Similar problem as my Corolla kept wanting to cut out so had to disconnect the sensor until i got home. The valve jammed up due to carbon but a good clean and some WD-40 got it moving again and fixed it. When it's working you can hear it.

oh man i ran into this same problem trying to remove the iac and i kinda stripped one of the bolts. i just sprayed the hell out of it with cleaner and put it back on, noticed a difference but need to do again. gonna go back with oil to unlock the screws and try again another day.

"good grip and then rotate.......oh no......," Hahaha I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago to my dismay! Added note(s) - it is the air that passes those two smaller holes through that regulator valve (the video said coolant). Those three wires energize coils in the sealed black canister to swivel the magnet that broke at the end of the video. Soaking the dirty valve part with solvent and gently rotating back and forth can possibly help if its not that rusty.
    Great video!

I just replaced the idle air control valve on my toyota corolla today the 4 phillips screws i had to use manual impact and hammer too one of my screws stripped out so i had to use vicegrips on mine i also had to use a propane torch to heat up the throttle body as well.. all said and done my idle when at temp is between 6 and 7 hundred rpms it was idling at 1100-1200 but now when its below operating temperature i still get idle surge between 7 and 9 hundred.. not sure what to look at next..vaccum leaks?? Spark plugs?? Ecu??

Peter Finn. I own a 2001 Toyota corolla vvt-I. with the metal intake . we changed spark plugs and air filter, cleaned MAF sensor. still has rough idle and sounds like piston slap. will changing the oil unit that oils the chain on top of motor help the piston slap or upper cylinder lubrication ??

    Hi Peter.
Firstly thanks very much for posting all of these videos. Great insight.
I have the exact same idle rev surge when warm issue with my 2000 Corolla 1.4 VVTI.
So far I have replaced the entire throttle body but it hasnt changed the idle rev surging. Someone told me it may be the temperature sensor on the engine block or a vacuum hose/AIM leak as you point out.
    My questions are
    1. How do I check if it is an Air Intacke Manifold or vacuum hose leak and if it was would the engine not be surging when cold as well as warm?
2.Could you tell me where the temerature sensor is located please?
Hope you can help. Thanks in advance. C.

Carburetor cleaner will do a better job of cleaning carbon out of the idle air control valve. You could also use throttle body cleaner or PB Blaster.
And don't just spray your cleaner in the idle air control valve. Use 2 or 3 old toothbrushes and scrub out the old carbon.
      Good luck to you.

I just have to say the part you removed and broke is idle control valve or Toyota calls it idle speed control valve. It lets air to the throttle body, not coolant. You should really research these stuff before putting them here in youtube. I understand that this video is old and it is maybe hard to translate these repair videos from Finnish to English, but please do the research before making videos like this.

Hi my friend! Sorry to bother you about this issue again regarding VERY LOW Idle of our toyota corolla 2002 1.6L.
Actually recently I'm so worried when ever I start her at morning (cold engine) it's like her engine wants to stall or shut off, feels like it cannot take enough air that is why I always need to give enough throttle for 1 or 2 minutes then I can let go and engine wont shut off anymore.
Should I replace IAC valve or just clean it would be huge help, but I cannot clean since I cand find right size of 5point screw type of tool yet here in PH.

Hi, Please do two following things:
      1) Measure pistons compression rate. Too low pressure is bad.
      Look video: th-cam.com/video/oYWyH8rnUwI/w-d-xo.html
      2) REplace throttle body. You can find used part.

I'll also wanna see the difference after I change the oil, I've been using 20W-50 and I already use more than 5,000km. on it, the oil must be SOOOO thick that it is so hard at start up (cold engine).
I might shift to 5W-40 fully synthetic oil, do you recommend such viscosity for engine like this?
