I listen to this song every morning religiously because I seriously feel it has reprogrammed my brain to think positively and see the opportunities I have in life. Now I'm off 8 meds and have zero anxiety or depression. And not just this song, but many of Queen's songs have such spiritual messages that have accelerated my personal growth. Check out Innuendo, Hammer To Fall, Princes of the Universe , One Vision, Don't Lose Your Head, Made In Heaven, Spread Your Wings just to name a few others that may inspire you and change your life. Also, it's not just the lyrics it's the whole energy behind the band Queen and the presence in Freddie's voice. It's authentic! He lived what he sang! It will sink into the depths of your soul and awaken your potential!
Strange...I have a similar experience. I used to listen to this several times a day when writing on a novella in Belfast...It was hard times, and I listened to the entire Queen's tape (yes, I used an old fashioned tape walk man from the 80s, where the Queen's tape was bought at a local farmer's market for a pound). Hammer to Fall was my "fighting" song. To BE the hammer as I wrote as it were. It was only after I was finished writing the tale, I stopped listening to that tape. Not for years now. Not since 2005. I guess too many memories is tied up to that song, and the story I was writing. I drank moderately heavily (a pint of cheap whiskey and a six pack of Guinness for dinner after work every day), as opposed to half a bottle whiskey, 6 pints AND 3 bottles of wine the day I wrote the entire story by hand as raw draft, and listened to John Lee Hooker). Your comment and this song opened a rabbit hole of memories as I smoke my toke... Maybe I'll put in on my playlist again when I go up to the mountain next year to write some other heavy shit.
John was a very subtle player and never liked the spotlights. He also never did vocals like the others did. He reflects his "shyness" through his bass sound. Subtle and never overdone.
Despite his static appearance (John never moved that much) his bassline always has an impact, much like Steve Harris's basslines have their own lives (Yeah I think Steve is one of they very best rock bassists).
Also, John Deacon did sing back-up vocals for live performances for many, many years with queen - he sang whenever the band needed him to. Freddie does talk in more than one interview on youtube about the timbre of John's voice being significant to enrich and layer out a specific chorous or phrase in various songs for live performances. It is true John was shy but he was very strong and generous on stage - the live performance of under pressure (queen under pressure SNL) is a great example - John knew Freddie was struggling with severe strain on his vocal chords and he was right up in front next to him, supporting him, taking the pressure off his friend by smiling directly into camera, playing wonderful bass as always and dancing like a diva - he and Freddie are beautifully in sync dancing together, it is gorgeous.
One thing is certain, between The Carpenters and Queen, these two bands perfected studio multitrack vocal harmony. Neither could really perform it live, but it is pure studio vocal ear candy.
What an amazing anti suicide song! They have a lot of songs that deal with depression! It's A Hard Life, If You Can't Beat Them, Don't Lose Your Head, and of course, Don't Try Suicide.
Better than that Logic song "1-800-273-8255," which in my opinion is very shitty. Queen's "Keep Passing the Open Windows" is better because it's more upbeat.
"“Keep passing the open windows” is the phrase that comes from the John Irving novel The Hotel New Hampshire, published in 1981. It is a catchphrase among the Berry family, the characters whose story is told in the novel. It is drawn from a story that the Berry parents tell their children, about a street performer called “The King of Mice.” He committed suicide in jumping from a window. “Keep passing the open windows” is the family’s way of saying to each other to carry on when the going gets tough."
I did not know the background and always wondered. Had deduced it meant don't use an open window as a suicide opportunity, but now I know the real details--thanks so much. Just LOVE that song--and Queen!
I found this song on accident, I tried telling my Alexa to play "innuendo" but she misheard me and played this instead, I let her play it and it honestly made my day, cos I was having a pretty shitty one and this is instantly my new favorite queen song.

Definitely one of their best and also a top favorite for me! It´s A Hard Life for me is the last song of the "old" Queen Aera. The Works is somewhat of an cornerstone album. It has super heavy tracks with rough vocals on it. With this album the falcetto voicings vanished because of Fred´s smoking habbits, he coudn´t reach those high registers when it has come to live performances. One could see that on their 1982 Tour, where Fred cracked his voice over and over. But nevertheless ... he always gave everything! All that made him the greatest vocalist and front performer of all time. John and Fred, my aces in the band!

One of my alltime favourites! Great tune.
One in a million, miss you FREDDI
Yes! you never die! You're one of a kind!FREDDIE for ever!
This track is wonderful but underrated! 😢😢
When you realize that the baseline of this song is a faster version of the kind of magic baseline
Yes! I was listening to the great baseline and knew it reminded me of something but I couldn't remember what. Thanks for the info.
other way around AKOM is a slower version....this was recorded years before AKOM.....
Yes, and all these lines are so great. Was just shopping at the local Salvation Army, heard a familiar note or two and recognized "Under Pressure."
I want to give you a like but you have 39 likes and I don't want a ruin it and turn it in 40
*bassline
Fell in love with this song because of the piano and I honestly didn't have high expectations for this song when it started
This song makes me feel so happy =)
Hermosa canción!!!!!

They're just legends, I can't believe their songs. these are from god's yourself, heritage for world...
When I've been in England I listened this, all the way to great country. This song makes me really good vibes. The one of the biggest songs for Queen for me. Sorry, if my writing is wrong I'm Hungarian😉🇭🇺
Tonight for the first time
This is a very special song
From Queen to you
Tavaszi szél vizet áraszt
Virágom, virágom
Minden madár társat választ
Virágom, virágom
Ta-ra-ra-ra ra-ra-ra-ra
Virágom, virágom
Virágom, virágom
Ta-ra-ra-ra ra-ra-ra-ra
Virágom, virágom
Virágom, virágom
Thank you ❤️

But a different key and played differently
Just listened this at the first time and just loved it

If you were a bad person today, be a better person tomorrow. Be better everyday.
We all miss you Freddie 😔🙏🏼
Ti amo Freddie ❤
I'm trying to put the pieces together and trying to be sane. During this tough time, my friend sent me this to me. Reading the lines. Freddie is my idol when I'm down or hedonic. I just hope whatever happens I will be able to keep a straight face. I hope.
Another real way of life being told through or in a song. About my own life. The harmony is so sweet and the music is, I can't imagine no one doing music like this but Queen and it makes sense. I understand them.
