Mafia 2 had some of the same problems as well. The world was absolutely empty (drinking, eating and robbing stores isn't really great content) and the missions were pretty linear for the most part. It wasn't a bad game, but Mafia 1 is still the best in the series.

Melee weapons and a lot of stuff were cut, look up Mafia 2 beta or something. Because of that, the lead designer of Mafia 2 left and from that point game was ruined. If not for 2K's shitty 'release the game now because i want money' strategy, the game could have been so much better, even though it was still a great game.

MAFIA 2 FACTS- 1.After flushing the toilet you cannot immediately flush for the 2nd time you have to wait for the tank to fill and then you can flush it again. Man how much thought had they put in this game. 2.When you open a window inside your apartment you can hear the noises coming from outside. 3.You can repair the car inside your own garage. 4. If you kill the owner of any shop, the next time you visit it will be closed with crime scene tapes hanging around. 5. If you knock out the owner or threaten and steel any shop , the next time you visit cops will be there and the owner will point out that it was you who did it. 6. During winter snow will be accumulated at the roof of a car and after driving it for a while the snow will melt due to heating and movement of the car.

Mafia 2 was amazing, only game i know where the police pulls you over for speeding and witnesses are beeing interviewed by the cops describing what you wear.
It's also basically the only game of its type where the police don't shoot to kill for literally everything. You could actually get ticketed, though unfortunately the only way to deal with it was to either try to run or try to bribe the officer. Still more realistic than any of the other offerings though, and it was always hilarious to see some random NPC bump into a cop or something and then bribe the officer.

Reminds me a lot to how the earlier Hitman games also had a lot of detail which was scrapped, with the latest Hitman games (Absolution, Hitman 2016) being awful and streamlined, too. wow... i forgot how great MAFIA 2 was. Normally as time passes games don't look as good as you remember them... but M2 can compete with most games today... that's crazy! and details are INSANE! the broken glass? did you see that ?!? Actually around 1000 people from Czech Republic worked on Mafia 3. The more of a disappointment it is. People were shit talking Mafia 2 when it came out because it seemed worse than the first game. But I think M2 was still a lot better than this abomination of a game which is trying to be GTA for some reason.
i love the atmosphere in mafia 2 it was just an awesome feeling driving at night with snow and 50s music going to a pub/bar and than making missions like the one at the bank or the mission with the empire state building, changing clothes, cleaning windows etc. mafia 2 hat awesome dialogs and characters.
I think he had the most influence why Mafia 1 and 2 have that much love in detail we can see that now in Kingdom come. I'm pretty sure that at the production of Mafia 3 there were still some old guys from 2k Czech also I think the executive of 2k in principle had the same claims just the chief producer doesn't has the high standards anymore.

cracktober Mafia 2 was never ported from consoles. It was ported from PC to consoles that's why consoles version has difficulties and missing features. It wasn't a perfect game or the most optimized by any stretch. But it was better on PC by far and looked gorgeous. I don't know what Mafia 2 your were playing.
Mafia 1 + 2 is a PC game, Mafia 3 is a console ported game, Consoles are not advanced like PC's. And most the devs want is money, and the money is in the console market, games are downgraded to make it compatible with consoles.

I think people will a agree that if a game has realistic hand to hand combat and the ability to take someones gun in that fist fight. It's a great game and deserves a worthy successor.

Triton2 is right but IMO is also because Mafia 2 used a lighting system called Lightsprint (afaik now dead) is a realtime global illumination system just like Enlighten from Geomerics, it was not used in real time on the game tho, to expensive, was used instead to make the static lightmaps. Mafia 3 seams to be using a different engine but i could be wrong.

About GTA IV has better physics in the time of 2008. You can go bowling, shoot some pool, strip club and darts. Mafia 2 sure is better than most of the GTA Games but I wouldn't say it's better than GTA San Andreas or GTA IV sure Story is better than these two. Personally for me GTA IV has emotional Storyline it had a sad ending. Other than that Mafia 2 Story is better just saying so people won't go breaking my balls here.

Yeah because people are going to get their shoes polished in game. I agree that many things do make a difference but things like shoe Polish don't really have a purpose. It's like the car wash and amusement park rides in gta games, no one ever used them. This video also doesn't show the things that are made better in this new mafia game. In mafia 3 the way police respond to a crime is more realistic. It will take longer for a dispatcher to send units to poorer, more ethnic areas whereas richer, whiter areas get a quicker response.

the police one is based on history accuracy. In those days blacks weren't really treated equally like now.... So most of the thing on mafia 3 maybe different in mafia 2 is probably connected to history accuracy...

2k Czech was making only animation and cutscenes i think. That was the only thing that 2k Czech made in this game. For me it's so sad because i was playing mafia 1 and 2 for the story which was really awesome.
I always thought Mafia 2 was a beautiful game-the graphics, the story, the characters-but did this video kinda drive the point home for other players just how advanced and ahead of its time this game was? While the game was more detailed on PC than a console, it was still-AMAZING. Watching this video though, it really opened my eyes to just how truly wonderful the game is. It made me think about the things that I had overlooked about Mafia 2 before. Like how you can see your own reflection(it's embarrassing that you can't see your reflection on Mafia 3 omg) or how you can open the windows and close them. LIKE does anyone else remember the woman who was standing outside her tennants door to listen in on their conversation, or the man that would yell about music being too loud-hell whenever you opened a window in Mafia 2, the sound from outside the building would get louder! Can you imagine just how much effort that took? The detail of Vito standing on top of a dead body, or how his bloody footprints would fade away because he could only have SO MUCH blood on the bottom of his sole? Or how the wind will sway the tree branches, or how on the PC, the grass was three dimensional- Like god damn-if you crashed your car hard enough into something-you would die in Mafia 2, just like how you would in real life. In Mafia 3, no matter how hard you crash, you'll be fine. Or how in winter in Mafia 2, the snow will slide off the roof off the car. I don't know, but I'm just amazed sometimes at how much effort and detail was put into Mafia 2. I think what Hangar 13 needs to do, is play Mafia 2, note the differences between it, and Mafia 3, fix them, improve upon the differences after already establishing them in their gameplay-and release a Mafia 2 DLC pack-cause idc if it costs 120-I will pay money to see Joe, Henry, and Vito again. The only reason I'm going to buy Mafia 3( after the prices drop, if Hangar 13 doesn't make a recovery on the game, but if they do then I'll buy it full price) is because of Vito. Like, that's honestly it. Just Vito. I think I'm just gonna play Mafia 2 all over again since I still have the Director's cut lmaoooo (I'm not even going to mention Mafia: City of Lost Heaven because we already know how good that game was.) Mafia 3 isn't a horrible game, but it's not great either. They're supposed to add new features to the game by the end of the month, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes. I know Mafia 2 had a dead open world, and here were other factors that influenced that, and god forbid you had to drive for a mission- lord that was boring-but the story has always really counted for me. I mean, that's the seller of the game, is the story-I only play games for the story-Mafia 3 has a good story. It just needs a lot of fine tuning.

The scene where you're standing over the dead guy in mafia 3 was more impressive. The way they react to crimes in different neighborhoods (poor to affluent) is a great sign of the times and shows a lot of attention to detail

Back in the day the developers would not dare to release an AAA title like that. There would be months of testing and perfecting, so that at least the game is not worse than the previous one. In console age it's all about quantity - how fast can we release the game and how much money can it make us. Console gaming truly ruins this industry

It's also basically the only game of its type where the police don't shoot to kill for literally everything. You could actually get ticketed, though unfortunately the only way to deal with it was to either try to run or try to bribe the officer. Still more realistic than any of the other offerings though, and it was always hilarious to see some random NPC bump into a cop or something and then bribe the officer.

Actually around 1000 people from Czech Republic worked on Mafia 3. The more of a disappointment it is. People were shit talking Mafia 2 when it came out because it seemed worse than the first game. But I think M2 was still a lot better than this abomination of a game which is trying to be GTA for some reason.

Mafia 1 + 2 is a PC game, Mafia 3 is a console ported game, Consoles are not advanced like PC's. And most the devs want is money, and the money is in the console market, games are downgraded to make it compatible with consoles.
A more enjoyable gangster story for one that doesn't go all over the place to get to the point. It may be trope filled but it had good balance and design of the scenario that made you care about characters, especially Joe Barbaro.

Triton2 is right but IMO is also because Mafia 2 used a lighting system called Lightsprint (afaik now dead) is a realtime global illumination system just like Enlighten from Geomerics, it was not used in real time on the game tho, to expensive, was used instead to make the static lightmaps. Mafia 3 seams to be using a different engine but i could be wrong.

About GTA IV has better physics in the time of 2008. You can go bowling, shoot some pool, strip club and darts. Mafia 2 sure is better than most of the GTA Games but I wouldn't say it's better than GTA San Andreas or GTA IV sure Story is better than these two. Personally for me GTA IV has emotional Storyline it had a sad ending. Other than that Mafia 2 Story is better just saying so people won't go breaking my balls here.

I agree that many things do make a difference but things like shoe Polish don't really have a purpose. It's like the car wash and amusement park rides in gta games, no one ever used them.
This video also doesn't show the things that are made better in this new mafia game. In mafia 3 the way police respond to a crime is more realistic. It will take longer for a dispatcher to send units to poorer, more ethnic areas whereas richer, whiter areas get a quicker response.
This is to make a more interactive city.

Mafia 2 story is so beautiful and powerfull,it makes you enjoy it every second!! and the cutscenes are so good!!! the story is a really good story one of the best out there! The city is so well made and with winter and summer its just amazing.
The charachters are spot on how you would imagine Vice guys! the graphics are great and all the small details like being able to run out of gas! and getting fined and so on! Its a shame to see this political correct world DESTROY all games..specially this one!

the police one is based on history accuracy. In those days blacks weren't really treated equally like now.... So most of the thing on mafia 3 maybe different in mafia 2 is probably connected to history accuracy...

I always thought Mafia 2 was a beautiful game-the graphics, the story, the characters-but did this video kinda drive the point home for other players just how advanced and ahead of its time this game was?
While the game was more detailed on PC than a console, it was still-AMAZING.
Watching this video though, it really opened my eyes to just how truly wonderful the game is. It made me think about the things that I had overlooked about Mafia 2 before.
Like how you can see your own reflection(it's embarrassing that you can't see your reflection on Mafia 3 omg) or how you can open the windows and close them.
LIKE does anyone else remember the woman who was standing outside her tennants door to listen in on their conversation, or the man that would yell about music being too loud-hell whenever you opened a window in Mafia 2, the sound from outside the building would get louder!
Can you imagine just how much effort that took? The detail of Vito standing on top of a dead body, or how his bloody footprints would fade away because he could only have SO MUCH blood on the bottom of his sole?
Or how the wind will sway the tree branches, or how on the PC, the grass was three dimensional-
Like god damn-if you crashed your car hard enough into something-you would die in Mafia 2, just like how you would in real life. In Mafia 3, no matter how hard you crash, you'll be fine. Or how in winter in Mafia 2, the snow will slide off the roof off the car.
I don't know, but I'm just amazed sometimes at how much effort and detail was put into Mafia 2.
I think what Hangar 13 needs to do, is play Mafia 2, note the differences between it, and Mafia 3, fix them, improve upon the differences after already establishing them in their gameplay-and release a Mafia 2 DLC pack-cause idc if it costs 120-I will pay money to see Joe, Henry, and Vito again.
The only reason I'm going to buy Mafia 3( after the prices drop, if Hangar 13 doesn't make a recovery on the game, but if they do then I'll buy it full price) is because of Vito. Like, that's honestly it.

Mafia 3 isn't a horrible game, but it's not great either. They're supposed to add new features to the game by the end of the month, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes.
I know Mafia 2 had a dead open world, and here were other factors that influenced that, and god forbid you had to drive for a mission- lord that was boring-but the story has always really counted for me.
I mean, that's the seller of the game, is the story-I only play games for the story-Mafia 3 has a good story. It just needs a lot of fine tuning.

The scene where you're standing over the dead guy in mafia 3 was more impressive. The way they react to crimes in different neighborhoods (poor to affluent) is a great sign of the times and shows a lot of attention to detail

Их проблема в том, что как только они вышли, разработчики уже сделали игры, которые выжимают из них 100% мощности. То есть они были слабыми относительного даже момента выхода. Не зря теперь выпускаю их усиленные версии ( по факту новое поколение, переименованное, чтобы не вызвать бомбёжку, что старое так быстро устарело).
после появления консолей игры стали делать в начале для них, а потом для пк.ибо там пиратов меньше, железо одинаковое и цены выше.

Back in the day the developers would not dare to release an AAA title like that. There would be months of testing and perfecting, so that at least the game is not worse than the previous one. In console age it's all about quantity - how fast can we release the game and how much money can it make us.
