When I worked for Universal Studios in the mid 90s, I once walked across the Jaws roadway at night and could see the outline of "Bruce" the shark down in the water. Even though it isn't real, it was still pretty creepy being out by that water alone at night with a 20 foot shark in the water. Thanks for the great vid and for the memories!
Yesterworld Entertainment Everything would be amazing. Like its concepts and changes over the years. Thank you so much for the great video and consideration.
Yesterworld Entertainment EVERYTHING! The whole ride has so much history and layers. It would be AWESOME if u could could cover most of them. PLEASE 😭😭
I never been to Universal until this April, and knowing that my favorite Universal movie ride was gone, made me feel really sad when I realized this. However, the tour ride really made up for it.
It’s very true...it’s all about greed. Atleast Walt Disney knew the importance of ride preservation. Disney has kept some of their original rides still intact but upgraded since the parks opened. Universal could learn a thing or two from Disney.
You are right! The same happened with Eurosat at Europapark Germany. They have changed it from a space theme to a Moulin Rouge theme. There were so many complaints about the new and really bad ride experience, that Europapark decided to turn off all effects of the coaster shortly after opening the renewed ride.
I was 7yo in the mid 80's and remember riding this. My moms friend didnt tell me about the shark and I sat windowside. I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT TILTING JUMP SCARE. Was a totally amazing ride in it's day.
Crazy to sit back and think about all the rides we have lost in universal Orlando. We go about every year and have since 2000. From jimmy neutron, sponge bob 4D, the forgotten about Nick studios, twister, back to the future, disaster, and jaws. Those were great rides now just ET is hanging in there and to me it is still a ride I enjoy. Your videos are great keep it up.
This wasn't the orlando ride. It was the Hollywood one. He should have specified in the beginning. A lot of people seem to think he meant the orlando ride.
Mark Stewart There were 2 different rides. I am sure he means the Hollywood one. I looked at the thumbnail while reading over some of what i said and saw "Universal Studios Hollywood" below the ride name. Also this ride is still operational unlike the Orlando ride. The Orlando one had a similar but altered plot from this one. It completely lacks the fisherman and had more pyrotechnics as well as more actual shark encounters than the ome he is referring to.
Steven Spielburg is actually not letting Universal Studios replace E.T with Nintendoland. I can’t believe Twister (a ride I could never go on; I’m astraphobic) was replaced with a shitty Jimmy Fallon ride, and Disaster was replaced by a shitty Fast and Furious ride. I loved Disaster. Jaws was replaced by Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley. If it wasn’t for that, Universal Studios Orlando would almost go bankrupt because of Disney. Imagine that.
I used to go all the time as a kid and returned recently as an adult and couldn’t believe all the differences! I HATE the screens and really miss the animatronic effects. Being there for Hollywood Horror Nights, I Love Lucy and ET were the only saving graces for me.
The effects in the 70s (other than the look of the shark) are wayyyyyy better than the ones today. It just seems that screens are an easy solution but will never be as thrilling as true movie magic.
uh the whole reason jaws is scary is because the shark broke all the time so they had it off screen. I hate screens but dude the old shit is funny looking back on it
I thought the shark looked pretty good in the first movie. When it came onto the Orca, that was the only time I felt we saw too much. Considering the time and what the ocean did to the original shark, it holds up pretty well-better than any of the sequels.
honestly i'd rather be able to spot and ignore practical effect oopsies rather than being pulled out of the experience by cgi. i get that it's reliable, but it isn't immersive!
This is the first time I've seen a research video on Jaws in its first stage, with all the original or replica props, and I'm completely livid. I can't believe they'd have the audacity to remove key features from a movie's ride adaptation. I should probably be more heated of the ride's entire removal, though. . . I hope SS gave the Orlando team heat for destroying the original and actual functioning Orca.
This is still one of my favorite parts of the Studio Tour. My favorite is still the Jurassic Park segment, but it used to be King Kong. Thank you so much for a great video.
I still think it's stupid how they left some of the most iconic movie pieces (like the Orca, the yellow barrels, and the beach changing rooms) to rot at universal studios.
If I was Steven Spielberg, I would have cried when I found out that the Orca was cut up and thrown out. I cant believe he couldn't stop that from happening. That's just awful. Jaws and Kong deserve their rides back, the whole screen projected rides get boring after a while, especially at big theme parks like Disney and Universal. I can understand those type of rides at zoos and small local theme parks. But if your paying big bucks at Disney and Universal, I would think you want entertaining rides.
Ugh, wow. I cannot express the depth of my nostalgia for the original film, the original soundtrack, and the original ride. This episode totally hit the feels! Thanks for the best episode of Yesterworld yet!
My dad worked at Universal. He liked to mess with my brother and me. One time he drove us over the bridge with his WV rabbit. I thought since it wasn’t the tram nothing would happen but then the shark popped out. He did a similar thing to me and a friend one time with the collapsing bridge ride too.
I'm from the UK but was lucky enough to visit the attraction as a kid back in 79 with it's tilting bridge, original props and toothy shark. Other props and attractions included The Incredible Hulk, Bionic bits n pieces such as a tree and a car you could push over/lift and if I remember correctly the newest attraction under construction was for the original Battlestar Galactica series. Happy memories.
This April (OFFICIALLY DATED!!!) I went to Universal Studios and saw the 25 footer Bruce make his way to the back of the trolley as my eyes glare at his sight. The best part, is that JAWS is my favorite Universal movie!
When I saw the title, I was confused as I have already seems jaws history video from defuntland. But this (imo) had a lot more valuable information! Good job!(:
One of my first videos was exploring the original Jaws ride very few got to experience...so with a suggestion from a friend, I only thought it fitting to explore the original that inspired the Florida attraction.
To anyone unawar, the Jaws jumpscare bit was removed because the model jumping at the tram actually caused some damage that needed maintenance as it made actual contact with the tilted tram. They got sick of it eventually and redesigned it.
Really miss the Jaws ride in Orlando. You can stay at home & watch your big screen rather than ride their rides now. It's about the same thing. Just screens and more screens.
To be honest, I miss both Jaws and Disaster. I can’t believe Disaster, an iconic ride, was removed for a piece of shit ride just like King Kong of Skull Island and Jimmy Fallon.
This attraction use to scare me to death when I was a kid. Over the years it seemed to get more boring maybe because I was getting old. But thanks to your video, it was the ride's cut backs that was making it lame. Good work!
LOL! Love the history of Jaws, and it's part at Universal Park! But Man! What we're they thinking with the teeth on the shark?!?! LOL! Fun times indeed!!!!
Love your videos! Never been to a universal or disney park but I love learning about their rides! Thank you for everything you do, keep it up please! :)
I remember riding in the first car when the ride opened and all you saw was the dorsal fin because the shark didn't surface until the second car. I was so mad. So every time I went after that I would ask the boarding cast member to please sit me in the second car. Sometimes they did, other times nope! Fond memories. Thanks.
Years ago I had a friend who had worked the tram tour @ Universal in the late 1980's. He said that the tour guides referred to the George the fisherman blood effect as the "jelly doughnut." The "blood" that was squirted into the water after George was pulled under had more of a bright, strawberry jelly coloring. You even get a glimpse of this @ 06:14 in the video.
Sadly the Florida Jaws is gone. If I wanted to take my daughter to see Jaws I have to take her to California's Universal. If it's not to late. Florida had an Alfred Hitchcock attraction where they went behind some of a few of his famous movies, then later it got replaced with Shrek 4D. I like Shrek but, Daaaaammnnn yooouuu Shrek, that attraction was Awesome.
Superb video! I loved seeing all of the footage of the ride and the visual comparison of how it looked originally and then how it was changed/props removed. Very awesome video c:
I forgot the bridge even tilted when I first went to universal in 2009. When you mentioned the change I had like a weird flashback moment and remember it tilting now
@@sharkfilms9029 there was a scene at the end of that movie where they looped part of a Tiger Shark swimming with Goofy like laughing because they couldn’t get over how stupid it looked in real life. I immediately thought of it seeing the older version of that animatronic shark.
Not only have they chopped up the Orca and removed the fisherman’s boat, all three Backlot based attractions in Orlando either burned down or was replaced, it just goes to show Universal is still great, but don’t entirely care about old loved attractions and see them as something you could just get rid of that you find in an attic
This part of the tram ride traumatized my mom as a kid. She can't even look at sharks after this. She visited in '79, and was right where the shark initially jumps out. She hadn't been warned about this part, nor had she seen the movie yet, so she didn't know what to expect.

I saw this ride in the early 2000s as a kid at universal Orlando. I gave me nightmares but it was definitely memorable. You cant believe how upset I was when I came back a few years ago to find the ride removed
I went on the ride too back in 1999/2000. I think I rode it about 3 times when I was in Florida. Loved it so much, even though it scared me. I never knew it was taken away until I watched the history of Jaws on Defunctland's channel. I was so upset to hear Harry Potter took over the ride's area. I never thought Universal would take away Jaws and Kong, but I was wrong. From what I heard the last original ride in Universal Florida is the ET one. But I also heard its gonna be shut down soon, or it has already been shut down. I feel depressed...
Dang. I just got back from Universal Florida. This was my second time going with JAWS being Diagon Alley, and it still doesn't feel the same, and I don't even like JAWS hahaha
I've thought about doing a much longer video where I go through the USH Tram Tour's evolution as a whole, from it's debut till present, rather than focus on one particular element...If enough are interested, I'll certainly try to make it happen in the near future ;)
Oh yes, please do the whole tram tour! Most people probably don't know about the Roman ampetheater from Jesus Christ Superstar or the avalanche effect but those were two of the best parts that are truly missed, besides Battlestar. Thanks for the consideration.
Holy crap I remember this ride! I was so terrified because I was so young when I went on it. When the bridge tilted I remember I screamed so much because I thought I was going to get eaten. 😂
Honestly, that’s becoming more and more of a problem with viewers not getting notifications when a new video is out... so I appreciate the sentiment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video, made my day :)
Wow, I never knew the Jaws portion of the tram tour got worse than it was originally was. I thought that’s how it always was. The original version of this (with the exception of the bad animatronic shark) looked better than what’s running today
Now this is one thing that terrified me from my childhood and will haunt my life for how much jaws terrified me and everytime i see jaws sense it still scares me as a teenager
I can imagine theres someone out there that experienced carrot tooth jaws and wasnt scared only to come back years later and completely get blindsided and scared by the realistic shark XD
I remember riding the jaws ride with the pyrotechnics! I also remember that jaws would splash water at the guests on the ride as he lunged at the side of the boat and you had no idea he was coming. I remember Jaws randomly attacking my side of the boat and it scaring the crap out of me and I screamed and started to cry a little and my big brother finally convinced me that it wasn’t real and that it was actually funny how he was attacking people and making them scream. I was pretty young, like about 5 or 6 at the time. Why I only remember that part of the ride, I have no idea. Hahaha. fun times, fun times 😂
Rocknrollaforever45 My parents could _never_ urge me onto that damned ride. I regret not going now, because now it’s gone and I can’t ever outlive my fear of “ITS A HECKING SHARK MOM HELP”
True story, my friend & I was on the tram ride [we had season passes so went A LOT] just as we were to hit the point where the shark came out of the water she put her arm behind me on the seat & it startled me [I am VERY jumpy for obvi reasons] & I let out at yip!! The entire train car erupted in laughter at me & I wanted to kill her! She knows not to do that w/o announcing it to me & forgot. It was a memorable ride for those thinking the shark had actually scared me... I am sure I make the rounds in those people's tales of Univ Studios vacay remembrances
The shark at the Hollywood park seems very different from the one in Orlando, as that one at least looked like the shark in the movie. From the videos, the shark in Hollywood looks way goofier and jumps out of the water too high and unnaturally. The shark in Orlando was actually pretty scary.

The moral of the story? Ride your favorite attractions while you can, as often as you can, because one day, someone is going to destroy it.
Sadly, this is so true...I've heard too many stories (mine included) of "I was there when X was running, but decided to ride it next time..."

Had no idea the tram used to tilt! My first time going to Universal Studios Hollywood was 2015 and by then they already repaved the track 😐
My dad was one the the first people to ride the jaws tramway.
Could you do a video about the Battlestar Galactica part of the tram tour?
SECONDED!
I CONCUR!
I asked Defunctland the same question!
I love your intro to your videos. Well done!
Holy crap I remember this ride! I was so terrified because I was so young when I went on it. When the bridge tilted I remember I screamed so much because I thought I was going to get eaten. 😂
Wish i was notified when you uploaded :c absolutely love your videos! They deserve more views ^0^
Honestly, that’s becoming more and more of a problem with viewers not getting notifications when a new video is out... so I appreciate the sentiment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video, made my day :)
Great video! Thanks for putting it together. And yes, please do one on USH's Tram Tour evolution... that would be epic.
I knew it tipped, I thought maybe it was an exaggeration of my childhood memory. Would’ve loved to see the George boat effect, thanks for posting
I stopped everything! It’s such a gem when you upload. Especially if it’s about jaws!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Hope you enjoyed it!!
Yesterworld Entertainment i really did and couldnt stop laughing at the edits with the original shark prop!
Jaws is one of my favorite movies ITS THE FIRST SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER ITS AWSOME
Wow, I never knew the Jaws portion of the tram tour got worse than it was originally was. I thought that’s how it always was. The original version of this (with the exception of the bad animatronic shark) looked better than what’s running today
Now this is one thing that terrified me from my childhood and will haunt my life for how much jaws terrified me and everytime i see jaws sense it still scares me as a teenager
I can imagine theres someone out there that experienced carrot tooth jaws and wasnt scared only to come back years later and completely get blindsided and scared by the realistic shark XD
That blue apron stuff actually sounds pretty nice
Honestly it feels good seeing an animatronic of the poster shark.
Love this video make more universal studio Hollywood backlot videos please
I can’t believe that they let the boat and destroyed it without telling Steven. Wow!
dude, this is cool. steve has never made a bad movie
When I turned 13,My first shark movie was JAWS,After that I never got to experience the JAWS ride,Harry Potter took over!
I gotta visit California one day to see this version of Jaws. I miss the Florida one so much. ;-;
I remember riding the jaws ride with the pyrotechnics!
Rocknrollaforever45
My parents could _never_ urge me onto that damned ride.
You're going to need a bigger tram tour
Eh, the Shark still looks Fake.
It's mandatory for me to comment this reference whenever I see Bruce. I'm sorry. XD
The shark at the Hollywood park seems very different from the one in Orlando, as that one at least looked like the shark in the movie. From the videos, the shark in Hollywood looks way goofier and jumps out of the water too high and unnaturally. The shark in Orlando was actually pretty scary.
The one in Jaws 1 looked real 80% of the time tbh lol
Dane Walzer
80% of the time, It looks real everytime.
It looked real until it jumps onto the boat and eats Quint whole.
Great video as always my dude! 😀
I MISS THIS RIDE SO MUCH 😫
The vip tour is AMAZING best day of my life
I've been wanting to go on the VIP tour, but do they take you around the jaws set? I will do VIP if they do.
Amazing video as always! 😆
Could someone list the tv shows that were shown that the shark showed up, I really want to see these in full
BRUCE! The shark's name is Bruce, dammit!
I wish they'd bring back that photo op where you can take a picture with a hanging shark.
Why is Bruce a Megalodon in the Ride's poster?
I was here the other day u were at 99k now ur at 100 k congratulations 🎈🎉
great video! can't wait for more of these! do Twister: Ride it out and earthquake
