The reason why the Osterreichring had a chicane was back in 1975, a Driver called Mark Donohue was killed at the fast right hander so the added a chicane to slow the cars down.
@@Tom97 Just chiming in now because the vidoe randomly ended up in my recommendations. I have to say that you almost managed to sound "Austrian" with your pronunciation and the way you stressed the word, it was really excellent!
Thank you for choosing this livery :D Still feels weird seeing stuff you made yourself out in the wild, but also great at the same time. ALso this track looks amazing, need to check it out later :D Cheers!
As an Austrian living 1h30 away from the track, I must say your pronunciation of Österreichring (Austriaring) was on point! Proud of you Tom! (you didn't say the E in Porsche but that's Germany and not Austria so I'll let it slide 😜)
Fun fact, because you mentioned average speed: Due to the lack of heavy braking zones and tight chicanes, the average speed here was higher than in monza (235kph/146mph to 232kph/144mph in monza, numbers are from 1987)
Ahh... the circuit where James Hunt said Jean Pierre Jarier had a mental age of 10... even Murray Walker was critical of him 1983 when he wouldn't move out of the way for anybody... Man this video was straight fire!
I need this track in my life. Get this layout, up to modern safety standards, into F1. I also like your driver choice, Hulkenberg is exactly the driver Porsche would need if they did join F1.
What they could realistically do is open up the parts of the old track that don't necessarily meet modern F1 standards to GT and touring cars, similar to the current Nürburgring situation.
@@iiComment13 just looks like a fun track, in a perfect world it would be nice to have both! Thankfully this time it might be rain for one of the raced and dry the next! So it’ll be very interesting!
"To improve overtaking" ... No. Nobody said that. Also the Red Bull Ring doesn't need to improve overtaking. 2 min later : "there is no real place to overtake" Yeah exactly.
What's your favourite circuit of all time? I know Suzuka is your favourite on the current calendar but is it your favourite of all time? Seeing this old classic circuit has made me wanna ask that.

Thanks of this, I knew there was a reason but I wasn't 100% sure
Mark Donohue was one of the greatest of his era. RIP.
Rip Mark
Alain Prost said F1 can change any track layout but should never make changes to Oesterreichring
I can see why
0 safety, less overtaking oportunities. But so damn great temple of speed was.
I love tracks which are all about going fast.
Me too!
@Devtix lmao
You pronounced "Österreichring" quite good for a non-german.^^
I love your videos! Keep up the nice work!
Oh thanks!
@@Tom97 Agreed, that was quite a decent effort.

Tom, you should do a video about “what if f1 raced at the Brno Circuit from MotoGP” as apart of your “what if f1 raced at” series
Your pronunciation at 0:45 was perfect well done Tom👌
I love driving old f1 cars around this circuit on assetto corsa...always makes me watch the 1984 Austrian GP again

You are by far the greatest F1 TH-cam content creator
This looked great! As you said, Porsche, Hulk, and this brilliant track. Would be amazing if this ended up being a foreshadowing
Would be amazing indeed :D
What a track mate!😍
I know, insane!

Some parts of the track still exist now you just have to look on a satellite picture and you can see really good where the old track was
What they could realistically do is open up the parts of the old track that don't necessarily meet modern F1 standards to GT and touring cars, similar to the current Nürburgring situation.
Bringing back the old lay-out of Zandvoort would be nice
The Hockenheim circuit, before it was gutted, will always be my favourite circuit like this where its all pure speed!
Would be nice to have this track after the Red Bull Ring, instead of a double header at the same track.
I think they knocked it down
The old track is long gone (Just look this weekend around the track when there's long shots). There's a stand at turn 1 for starters!
@@iiComment13 If you look on Google Maps, you can still see about 60% of the track
It's not there anymore fully, it's also blended into the current layout
